I'm glad I'm not the only person who is not happy with this. I don't know WHY they opted to go with two females instead of a male/female offering... I'm loath to think it has anything to do with any political motivations... but I AM left with the question of WHY? Is it because they see more players using Mirri than Bastian and assumed that it was because of the gender? Instead, the reality of it being most people hate Bastian and his 'white knight' persona.
i think men havent been represented fairly in this mmo or video games in general for a long time now, and thats typical. genshin impact has like 80% female characters, and I will be waiting years for lost ark to introduce the male variant of shadowhunter.
i think there's reasons for this, but i think 1 male and 1 female companion each expansion is more fair. we have now 3 female, and 1 male. typical of the ratio in other games, like genshin or lost ark 25% men, 75% women.

Moving forward, please keep posts respectful and help us in maintaining a welcoming environment for the ESO Community.Trolling or Baiting: The act of trolling is defined as something that is created for the intent to provoke conflict, shock others, or to elicit a strong negative or emotional reaction. It’s okay and very normal to disagree with others, and even to debate, but provoking conflict, baiting, inciting, mocking, etc. is never acceptable in the official The Elder Scrolls Online community. If you do not have something constructive or meaningful to add to a discussion, we strongly recommend you refrain from posting in that thread, and find another discussion to participate in instead. It is also not constructive or helpful to publicly call out others and accuse them of trolling, or call them a troll—please refrain from doing so. If you genuinely believe someone is trolling, please report the post or thread to the ESO Team, and leave it at that.
Flaming: It’s okay to disagree and debate on the official ESO forums, but we do ask that you keep all disagreements civil, constructive, and on-topic. If a discussion gets heated and turns into a debate, remember that you should stick to debating the post and/or thread topic. It is never appropriate to resort to personal comments or jabs about those participating in the thread discussion.
It makes me feel like ZOS is trying to court the straight male gamer community. I realize the female companions are probably more popular, but I would appreciate a close to 50-50 gender balance a lot. It's not a trivial issue for me, personally.
It’s only the second set of companion. If they keep adding only females i would see it as a problem especially if they add a more meaningful relationship system. For now, I think it’s fine but i would expect two male for the next chapter.
I'm hoping there's no ulterior motives like encouraging sales of outfits and costumes to a perceived demographic.

Honestly, that's kind of what I expect. Video games tend to have more males playing them and they want to sell costumes for "the waifus".
I want more male companions because I am a gay man.
There's more important issues with the game

Exactly, I'm a female player and I know plenty of other female players, and many of us do get sick of straight male players being marketed toward because we want shiny things too. I also have a gay guildmate who is not happy about this. Diversity is good for everyone. Companions are still new, and to have an oversight like this so early in the companion system when you have such a huge diversity of players with different tastes is why threads like this appear. We are not being political, we just see what's going on and are not happy about being brushed aside for the perceived player demographic being marketed towards.

This whole thing could be alleviated if they just offered more companions period. We got two in an entire year last year. Why couldn't they give us two more with Fargrave/Deadlands? Looks like two per year will be the new normal. So two years from now maybe the genders will equal out. Just make more than two companions a year and broaden the pool so everyone is happy.
