By the way, there is nothing about new companions.
This datamine only contains the stuff ZOS had to put out today to make the store page work in game, things like the banner, the pre- order mount, the bullet points as to why you should want to buy the chapter.

There will be more stuff revealed tonight, but this is just what they needed to release to make the store work.

Eso legends was good, but sadly audience was too niche being both card game and elder scrolls. If eso iteration would be anyhow close it's fine at least, but if it would follow eso's overall difficulty line that's a total miss here. Card players probably don't really crave too casual activity and ones that want an easy time probably not really into cards and decks to begin with but zos knows best their requests and how it would affect playerbase. I hope so?

Anyhow it doesn't change a fact it's another fluff probably, I always want to hope for the best but recent years showing that we really shouldn't expect a lot, better expect nothing at all to not be disappointed in the end.

Maormer race as main chapter feature suddenly doesn’t look so bad. Another cheap mobile mini-game, what a joke...

There will almost certainly be a lot of new antiquties, but we just cannot find them from the very limited information they put into the client today.

There will almost certainly be a lot of new things, new companions for example. But that information was never going to be found in the datamine from today.

Ofcourse u gonna get them. Not only them. How do u think u force PVP players to buy new chapter? By putting a new broken set/weapon/mythic to the chapter. This way, the players that buy it, wil have advantage over others.

Its a quiet form of P2W.

I think the card game just refers to Cyrodiil.

It's an acknowledgment that the lag is now so bad that it's like a card game.

I don't think anyone talking about them being "summoned" and leveled for achievements and completion, gear drops that can cost a fortune (but drop only when they're up) but about what it actually brings to the table, which isn't much.

There's a difference between everyone using them because they have no downsides and them being a worthwhile addition to the game.
In terms of usage of course they aren't a flop, but it would be like saying a specific pet that you get for free from a quest is not a flop because everyone uses it, yeah, no ***. In terms of depth, they are little more than somewhat customizable NPCs with flavour dialogue, annoying likes and dislikes, and pretty run-of-the-mill questlines attached to them, not to mention the mind-numbing grind to get them to max level/reputation. Not exactly the groundbreaking feature one would expect as a selling point for a chapter now, is it?

Don't get me wrong, but I don't think that developers can be excited about the fact that:
    1) The casual function requires non-casual effort to level the companion and relationships.
    2) Nowhere is it written that the companion is exclusively for questing. New casual players take them everywhere. As a result, they see how companions constantly die. They're dying everywhere. They die on anchors, they die on world bosses, they die in public dungeons. DIE DIE DIE DIE in almost every activity in the game. It can't be fine.
Yes, many players, including exp ones, play with companions. But this is more of a decorative pet and is unlikely to be what the developers wanted. I also often call a companion, but only for the chance of getting a purple gear for sale.
When Rich was asked why the Deadlands did not have a new companion, he replied that he wanted to work on the quality of the new system and not on quantity. I would like to regard this as "ZoS needs to greatly improve the companion system."

Judging by your signature I can say with 100% certainty; Companions were not designed with you in mind. Companions are not groundbreaking, true, they do however make soloplay and duo-play far easier and this is the group ZOS had in mind when they made Companions(honestly, this is seemingly the majority of ESO players).

I hope we get something more substantial with High Isle, but Companions as a expansion feature system is on par with Antiquities, it just happens to be made with a different part of the playerbase in mind.

I was expecting very little for this year but not THIS literal pile of flaming garbage, I don't want a card game as the main feature of a chapter! I won't be buying this chapter if this is the selling point for it, and honestly there's some other MMOs looking a lot more enticing than ESO lately... I've been playing ESO for a couple of years now and it feels like the game is just going on a terrible downwards spiral.

Mythical gear which is mostly pointless, higly situational or promptly nerfed into the ground (seriously, I'm amazed that the kilt is still going strong). Besides, that's not really an update to combat itself, but more to gear, which directly affects combat. I'm guessing when most people, myself included, refer to "combat changes" they mean actual new combat systems such as skill-lines, classes, weapons, and the like, or at least some sort of addition/rework to those systems, not just stuff that you equip and gives you increases to stats.

I agree that they are on par with antiquities, in the sense that they are pointless fluff to keep the player engaged. The only difference is that antiquities benefitted pretty much everyone, by having furnishings, equipment (although, as to my previous post, I do think most of it has been rendered useless, at least in PvE), and collectables. Companions could have been made more nuanced, as to allow them to have some sort of use in most types of play, but no, they had to relegate them to overland play, which is to say the easiest area of play. I will agree that they certainly make both solo play and duo play easier, but again, that's not enough for a core feature of a chapter, in my opinion, and doesn't change the fact that structuring the entirety of a chapter's selling point around a very specific playerbase, which just so happens to be the one least interested in mid-level play or higher, is a terrible idea. I am open to change my view on them if they do get a proper update, making them more useful, but as they stand right now, they are pretty much a void feature.

See, the few people who "care about end game" (I guess that's veteran trials, harder achievements etc) are not the majority of the players who bring money to ZOS' table. The majority of players does enjoy questing, housing and the like. As an endgame raider (have quite a few trifecta achievements with my raid groups) that's tough but important to understand.
The social guild I am in does world boss runs and fishing together for example, those events get way more people online than the casual trial runs our me and the guild master are offering.

Just a thought - if we are to collect cards this one wonders if they will be sellable or bound?

A valuable card could therefore be of benefit to a traveller as a means of coin, even if they do not want to play the card game itself.

Also this one hopes they have their own bag or container and do not take up precious inventory space.

For those disinterred, let me ask you something?

You do know ESO is lacking in the leisure activities department right? there is more to the game then combat and adding new features like this increases the games depth rather significantly, this adds more things to do.

I’m not judging the card game before I see it, but at the same time we haven’t gotten new combat-related stuff since the Necromancer class in Elsweyr. That was in 2019....

Still really hyped for the chapter announcement! Maybe they’ll still surprise us with a new combat skill line somewhere.
