Maintenance is Taking Forever Again!!!

I have emptied my bucket under the hole in my chair (fortunately it was not that full as we have many server down times).

I have decrumbed/dechocalified/dehaired my keyboard (turning upside down and banging it hard helps).

I have towelled off the excessive grease stains and put on a mostly clean yoda t-shirt.

I have strained my beard of anything organic.

I have re-towelled down and changed my t-shirt again to my favourite Aloha Hawaiian shirt (Mental note: De-louse/de-crumb beard first in future).

I have loaded my gravity fed dispenser of deliciously delightful soda cans with a mystery cherry pop somewhere in the middle.

I have filled the salad (lol) bowl with enough M&M's to ensure pleasant sensations against my hand as I reach in for a handful.

I have trolled, lurked, agreed, lol'd the ESO forums looking for something to keep my spirits up during this time of darkness.

I have refilled the Salad (lol) bowl.

I have re-filled the soda dispenser.

I am about to empty my bucket again...Can we please get the server backup so that I don't have to continue facing the sad reality I call my life...or at least before my mum yells down into the basement for me to take out the garbage.

The maintenance normally lasts an hour or two. Something has probably gone a bit wrong.

Ultimately, go outside and do something. Make a coffee. Read a newspaper. It will get fixed, likely very soon.

What probably went wrong was that their chitchatting over tea and coffee got pretty heated and the one person occasionaly taking care of the server went to the restroom. You don't think that the whole team is working on with great focus to bring the servers online, do you? ;)

Well actually, I work in a similar environment , and this is not how it works AT ALL. The technologicy teams have accountability to the business teams to do x y and z within x y and z imeframes, especially if their business setup follows the very popular "DC" model these days. If something is overrunning or goes wrong, they are definitely not going to the loo or having tea, they are probably working their ass off to fix it.

They have spreadsheets of requirements, defect fix lists and UAT scripts to do before they can push stuff live, as well as live proving testing as and when it goes. They also have a rapid feedback mechanism and devs working hard on whatever went wrong. Running a big patch which affects virtually ALL of your business' clients (the players) is not a two man show.

    Actually, I do.

You really need to visit an occasional Online Service and see how they work! That might though be a blow on the pollyanna complex.

when did it start? Ive only just got up :D

When its a standard maintenance they give you a time, on Friday they said 3 hours and servers were back 3 hours on the dot.

Obviously this time they don't know how long this is going to take, they don't patch and throw the servers back up, they do some testing post patch.

This is not the only MMO that doesn't always give you a time and none will tell you how long it will take when they are patching.

only 6 hours ago, thats perfectly reasonable for a scheduled weekly maintenance, right?

You are certainly entitled to that opinion. But why are you here then? I don't normally spend time with things I consider crap.

This isn't a couple of high school kids hosting a MUD in their basement, this is a money making, high performance IT company (anyone disagreeing this point hasn't been playing enough of their amazing games).
If they are doing it right they use some form of IT Service Management which says that you set realistic expectations with customers in order to maintain good customer satisfaction.

It is not asking too much to be given a realistic ETA.

PS The devs are doing a great job and I love the game :D

Trust me, you are so not alone in this....

I got several volcanos errupting inside me everytime something goes wrong with the game or servers...

One day, all will be released for the world to see XD

My day so far today as I knew there was going to be maintenance...degrease the kitchen ceiling, and clean all the walls ready to paint (had a new kitchen installed.) Potted some plants, vacuumed the entire house, mowed the lawn and swept up the patio, trimmed the hedges, been to the shops and cooked a curry for dinner, all that since 8.45am BST. Just sat down with a cup of coffee for a much needed break and to play some ESO and the servers are still down. To be fair this is the first time since scheduled maintenance times have been decided that it's run for much longer than anticipated to I'm willing to cut them some slack, they must be working their socks off to get things up and running again but again a little more communication between ZOS and the player base wouldn't go amiss.

Somehow I think this whole Forum mess(anybody has seen a messed up forum like this in ANY p2p mmo ever?) is not a coincidence. It just makes it way more comfortable for zenimax because 50% of the player don't even know how to registrate and 20% can't find the right forum to post at all.

I would be ashamed if a forum like that represented my product.

Yeah, im not sure who signed off on the forum before they launched it, but who ever it was should be hanging their heads in shame, what a shambles. It all comes down to money, and time, which again comes down to money.

They wanted push update as fast as possible, but Leading technician have patch zipped on pack of 3.5" diskettes.
Unfortunatelly, diskette #2377 had unrecoverable hardware error. Now they must zip whole patch again on new pack of diskettes and start from beginning again....
