Optional Single Housing Storage Chest with Tabs

I have 3 5 of these so far, but find it's hard to make them fit into my decor and look good. I propose an option to combine these into one chest, but with tabs for each of the current chests, so it would still be easy to keep items organized. We could do this by an option, or perhaps purchase the combination chest with writ vouchers or crowns, like we do now for the chests. Then you would just place your current chests into the combination chest, and could also remove them again if you choose.

EDIT: I have revised my original suggestion after receiving input in this thread and giving this idea more thought.

This is what I am suggesting:
  • One chest that has tabs like bank storage.
  • Players can purchase additional storage slots up to the current max of all 8 chests.
  • Players can convert their current chest slots to the combined chest
  • OR
  • Players can choose to keep their chests separate.
  • Skins for the combined chest, like bookcases, wardrobes, and counters for example.
  • Similar Skins for the individual chests.

I don't have any large rooms like that dedicated to storage. So having one chest, or a wardrobe even, that holds all the storage of my separate chests would work better for me.

Which house are you working with?

Alinor Crest Townhouse, Proudspire Manor, Serenity Falls Estate, Antiquarian's Alpine Gallery, Ravenhurst, Sleek Creek House and Hall of the Lunar Champion, which is the only one I have a good space for them that doesn't interfere with my design.

Seems a bit out of place that with some of the largest homes in the game you refuse to creatively alter decor to allow for 8 storage coffers.

Asking for one large one after several years just seems out of place IMO.

Well, the good news is, you have enough slots to place them all.

I messed around with the trestle tables in the Antiquarian's Alpine Gallery, whether you want to cannibalize the place for storage tables is up to you, but here are some quick experiments.

Thank you for all your great ideas @starkerealm . I appreciate you taking time to offer some solutions.

My problem isn't not having space for them... it's not having space that I'm not already using for something else. I furnish all the rooms and outdoor spaces in my homes and do not want chests piled up in my living room, or bedroom, or garden area etc.

I'm making 3 chests work but it doesn't look that great in some of my spaces. One storage container with tabs would be ideal.

I only have 3, one of which I recently added. And I had to squeeze it in to fit in a few places. That is what made me wish for just one storage container option.

I work hard to make my houses look like homes, the exception being a small tavern, a country lodge and a museum with tea garden. It was much easier to create a storage space in those places than it is in my characters' private homes.

I don't feel I could add another chest without having to sacrifice my space I worked so hard on.

Just dedicate a room for all 8 of them now and stopped trying to fit them in the décor myself. Generally, add the banker with them so it’s like a ATM in my own homes.

Stay safe everyone and ZOS please fix the green tree micromanaging :)

@starkerealm I noticed you had some chests on and under tables. Right now I just have mine on the floor next to each other, so they take up a lot of floor space. But I'm going to play around with stacking up 2 small tables with a chest on the floor, one on top of the bottom table and one on top of the top table. That may help until we get a combined chest. ;)

Sounds like you need to be more open or creative. Build a hidden storage area outdoors or make a closet in a room to place things they build around that stuff. [snip]

You can, also, stack the chests on top of each other. As long as they are outlined in green when you place them, they are still usable. Find an out of the way nook; stack the chests; place a curtain or something in front to hide them.

Yeah, you have to be a little careful when picking the table, but it is certainly possible with some trestles. It's also possible to get planks or platforms and then wedge them into the wall to simulate a large shelf. I didn't do that, but it is another option.

I like the idea of creating a shelf. I'm going to experiment with this tomorrow.

I like this idea, too. I never tried to just stack them before.

Let me be clear. We are NEVER getting a combined storage container.

Each storage container acts as it’s own little private bank spot. Each can be named and when you open them in any house they are connected to the same inventory being tracked.

Most importantly, 7 of them are Crown Store Items meaning ZOS will basically never touch them as some people paid real money for them the way they are. The last 1 is only available upon making a new character and leveling them up.

It’s best to design your home with that in mind.

@SilverBride I'm not sure if you are aware of this so I will say it............You don't have to keep the chests in your house. You can put items in the chest and then pick them up and put them back in your collections inventory. Then just take the one out you need to get something from and put it away after.

Chests can be purchased with crowns or writ vouchers, which is how I got mine. My idea is a chest with a tab for each chest that we purchased. So if I owned 3 chests my combined chest would have 3 tabs, and the tabs would have either 30 or 60 slots depending on how big the chest was that I put in it. So instead of having 8 separate chests to place we could choose to use the combined chest and purchase up to 8 tabs. Then there would only be one item to place, saving space and housing slots.

I considered that but it's just not as convenient. But it could be done.

We need skins for these chests. For every new chapter, we could be receiving chest skins relevant to the chapter theme.

I would like to see that happening, but on the other hand i kind of like those chests, i usually set them up in my workshop or i create a bank looking space especially for them, with Ezabi next to them and a bunch of gold coins/treasures laying around.

I'd love to see them change it into just one chest.. each new chest would then just add more storage slots, instead of being its own item

I can't post screenshots until this evening, but I've got Mournoth Keep decorated as a house and I've got the storage chests dotted around the place intending them to look like part of the furniture. For example one is at the bottom of the bed, one is in the kitchen area along with various other shelves and boxes, one is next to the desk in the library, and so on.

The downside of doing it that way is it can be harder to remember which chest is where, since they all look the same, but I try to make it somewhat logical, for example crafting materials are in the kitchen, spare furniture is in the bedroom and the 'odds and ends' chest is in the library where my characters would go to investigate the weird stuff they pick up.

I have to admit I do also have them all just stacked by the entrance of the Grand Psijic Villa, because I only use it to store stuff (I call it my 'where house') so I just want to get to a chest as quickly as possible I can go there. (But then the easiest way to leave that house is to go to the outside of another house which is near a wayshrine, so it's a bit of a trade-off.)

Chests can be filled up, labelled accordingly, then put away and taken out when you need to access them.
There is no need to have them as part of your decor.

Another thing you can do in some houses is hide little secret areas where you can toss your stuff without throwing off the aesthetic.

For example at my temple to the eight, I purposefully left a little gap unsealed where I can squeeze in behind it to reach the roof. A lot of people who visit don't find it. Since it's hidden on the roof, it's not immediately obvious it's there. So it doesn't ruin the look.

    dc52giz77rvn.jpeg

You can use things like curtains, walls, platforms etc to make things look closed off at first glance. And hide pathways to things that are useful but would ruin the look of the place.

Here's another example of a house without a whole custom building...

I would like to apply different skins to storage chests, so they would match any possible house style.

My own storage chests are placed as practical as possible, and their aesthetics are not important :)

In my main house, Ebonheart Chateau, for a long time they were simply scattered around the entrance.
When I was finally bothered by the fact that they block me from walking there freely, I placed them all on top of each other. They don't block me from walking, and they are near the very entrance of the house.

...In my other houses, storage chests are still randomly scattered around the entrances

I see some folks have shown that you can stack the chests on top of each other as well. Doesn't look great but if you tuck them somewhere out of the way it's fine. Also there's really no reason to have your chests in your houses at all. When you hit F5 to decorate you have access to everything in your chests. The only thing you need the physical chests for is to put items from your inventory into them. So to do that I just use one of the many free inn rooms and throw all the chests in there and just visit when I need to make a deposit into the chests.
