There is no need to have them as part of your decor.

There is no need for a house either, no need for mounts, no need for more than 1 character.. yet we like to have it anyway

Am all for variety; the OP expressed a wish to make them less obvious, and was merely informing them that there was no need to have them placed... as have others ^^

I just use one of the many free inn rooms and throw all the chests in there and just visit when I need to make a deposit into the chests.

I tried to do that but it wouldn't let me place more than 2 in the small rooms.

I agree with the OP. I would love to have an option to have just one large chest with everything in it as opposed to the eight smaller chests. I could definitely find things better and would not have duplicates in separate chests taking up extra space.

And this could be optional so players who prefer separate chests could still use them.

Chests can be purchased with crowns or writ vouchers, which is how I got mine. My idea is a chest with a tab for each chest that we purchased. So if I owned 3 chests my combined chest would have 3 tabs, and the tabs would have either 30 or 60 slots depending on how big the chest was that I put in it. So instead of having 8 separate chests to place we could choose to use the combined chest and purchase up to 8 tabs. Then there would only be one item to place, saving space and housing slots.

I’m not sure the tabs idea is a good one. Eight slots times two for deposits and withdrawals? The underlying idea is good, though. You could get your free container at level 18 and then, instead of buying additional containers, you just buy expansions for the one container, either from Rolis for writ vouchers or from the Crown Store. Nothing would change for ZOS, income-wise.

Yea I haven't figured out how exactly to implement it, so hearing others ideas has been great. Hopefully they will look at these ideas and give it some serious consideration.

I think those who struggle with having enough housing slots would like the idea of one chest as opposed to eight.

    Actually, alot of "us" don't...

I never use a mount, I don't do any of the "home" [snip]

I got the "FREE" room & box, and instantly maxed it w/ maps, and that's the only thing in that "room".

And I haven't been in it since, like the 3rd day of playing which was over a month ago.

    It's wasted space IMO.

    I agree w/ Silver.

I want 1 box, 8 tabs, so I only have to use the "free" house.

Because, walking into a "free" room that only contains storage boxes since they don't "stack" into one is kinda dumb IMO.

And really, since we have to pay for all of them anyway, I'll NEVER have more than that tiny "freebie" ZOS gave us....

I like to have a cellar room in my houses. I use some of these and tuck the boxes in amongst other items (baskets, crates, etc.) It's very easy to disguise the boxes this way. You have to sink the shelves down slightly so the bottom shelf rests flush with the floor if you want to reach any boxes on the top shelf to interact with them.

These also come in Murkmire style:

@Versispellis Those are awesome. The chests will look more like a single piece of furniture rather than separate items. Another great idea!

Upgraded mounts can be very useful, particularly in places like Cyrodiil.

There's, actually, seven of those (I think.) Some are better than others, but they're all pretty limited. If you're grabbing tickets, you'll have a chance to get a large house later this year, and it might be worth taking a look at it again.
And I haven't been in it since, like the 3rd day of playing which was over a month ago.

    It's wasted space IMO.

Some of the starter rooms really are. That said, houses are more of a venue for creativity, so if you're looking at them as a strictly [snip] system, most of the stuff that makes them actually useful (training dummies, crafting stations, extra storage) probably isn't relevant to you yet.

You can get the others via in game activities, through writ vouchers and from tel var. Tel Var are a currency in the Imperial City that drop off mobs or other players, but you lose a percentage of the carried tel var if you died. Writ vouchers come from Master Writs, and if your only exposure to that system comes from the Christmas or Halloween events, they'll seem far less reasonable than they actually are.

So, there are [snip] reasons for housing, but none of those are going to be apparent if you're just starting out.

There’s also the fast travel aspect. Even the free inn rooms and cheap apartments are very useful, especially now they’ve added the travel to outside the housing facility.

I would like that option for merging, because then I could keep all my monster set items in there and wouldn't have to look into two different chests, and it'd be nicer for decorating purposes as well, not to mention saving a slot.

I like the idea of skins that some posters have suggested. Then we could give our chests skins that fit into our decor and look good as well as being functional.

If we were to get a combined chest I'd like to have several models to choose from, such as a chest, or a wardrobe, or a counter for example, with skins for those also.

Especially if those skins support stacking. I didn't suggest stacking chests directly on each other because I'm not a fan of how they clip through one another when you open them.

I just purchased my first 60 slot chest but wish I hadn't. It is just too large to fit nicely into my decor in most of my houses. I realize that I don't have to keep my chests out all the time and can just place and use them when I need to, but those are extra steps that shouldn't be necessary. Plus storage should be part of a house.

What I am suggesting is this:
    • One chest that has tabs like bank storage.
    • Players can purchase additional storage slots up to the current max of all 8 chests.
    • Players can convert their current chest slots to the combined chest
    • OR
    • Players can choose to keep their chests separate.
    • Skins for the combined chest, like bookcases, wardrobes, and counters for example.
    • Similar Skins for the individual chests.

@ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_Kevin please consider this suggestion. It would be a great quality of life feature for housing.
