So I strolled through the madness that is shadowfen at the moment. I'm just curious on what are people basing their belief on, that this lead only drops from shadowfen. Is it mentioned somewhere? I'm asking because there was a lead that apparently only dropped from Rift Mammoths after the Greymoor release but a week later I picked it up from a timber mammoth in Malabal Tor. Has anyone tried farming another province?

I haven't tried Shadowfen yet because **** that noise however I have been doing my surveys as usual plus my craglorn 'run' and picked up a handful of nirnroots/water hyacinths in the process, no lead.

I don't usually go out of my way to pick up those because I don't use them that much but if they are on my path I do pick them up.

Ah ok. Well, I think I'll try another zone for an hour or 3 with a farm run but including water herbs for a change. Will report back if I hit a luck. ;)

Could you please confirm if anything about the Shadowfen Kilt Lead has been passed on to the dev team? It really needs to change.

The fact that I didn't get the lead does not necessarily mean that it doesn't drop from water nodes in other provinces.

If it would take me 100+ attempts it would only be par for the course [for me] and I am pretty certain I haven't picked up as many since Blackwood released.

In the thread about the DB NPC lead people are reporting getting it on 1-4 attempts, took me to log in 11 characters to get mine.

In the thread about Arx farming people are saying that 4 chests are the norm, or used to be anyway; I'm not sure I ever had a 4 chest run, possibly, but the norm for me was 2 chests.

I think you get where I am going with this. I tend to be an outlier and not for the right reasons.

maybe Murkmire would be a good attempt since it is an Argonian-themed region too?

This is going to be fun on console next week.

I am going to go out on a limb and say this will hardly be a problem on consoles. Mainly since, unlike PC, us console players do not have add-ons that tell us where every node location is in game. So a few may be camped in the zone, many will be out there to find by running around the zone.

the drop chance mixed with limited nodes with population makes this nearly unbearable. You can not expect people to spend this amount of time on this. Specially when many of people already have 8 to 10 hour work days.

This is by far the worse situation they have ever devised. I was there for 16 respawning of a Nirnroot. Took me a hr to find an open node . I was run over by at least 6 people riding their horse right over me when the node appears.

    I have given up Antiquities.

I was wondering what everyone was talking about, because yesterday I saw only 1 water or water hyacinth node with 2 players camping out, waiting for it to spawn. But today while reading this thread some more I suddenly realized-- you all are talking about in Shadowfen, not Blackwood. D'oh! I guess those 2 players I saw hadn't gotten the memo, either.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

    This has to be bugged.
Time aside, I must have farmed ~500 water or water plant resource nodes in Shadowfen and no lead.

I "only" farmed for few hours, ran around and not just sat at one node and of course got nothing, but this is ridiculous and pointless. Was also doing it at 2 - 3 am...

What's makes things worse is on PC/NA a certain (un-named & non-shamed here) guild is going around in a group to nodes users are patiently waiting at & placing multiple Totems from Kyne's Aegis on top of nodes people are camping - abusing and exploiting the fact that the Totems Interaction Volume is larger than & supersedes the Interaction Trigger for the nodes in order to grief users away from their spots. I suggest anyone encountering this to record the incident and submit a support ticket - this kind of blatant ToS violation and the trash performing it need to be handled. Let's get this trash out of our Swamp!

This! And if any of you report griefers, do it on the elderscrollsonline.com site support and not in-game, since support pays more attention to site tickets than ones submitted in-game. You can also include more screenshots and a longer description of the issue (like all those juicy guilty player names).

I haven't been to Shadowfen to farm because I'm not interested in the lead at this moment (I care more about filling my codex than having BIS gear), but I think I'm going to pick up my small stack of crafting surveys there this weekend so I can play swamp tourist and see the wildness for myself. I've never seen a crowded Shadowfen before, except for the New Life fishing holes--it'll be interesting.

Yeah I sent ZOS a ticket about just how awful the grind in Shadowfen was.

Personally I don't normally mind grinding for leads. Yes running ruins of Mazzatun or having to fish with 20 other people is tedious but at least you're on the same team.

The lead is Shadowfen is just making it so players are forced to screw each other over for a chance at the lead. There are not enough nodes and they don't respawn quick enough for everyone to get one. So instead you have dozens of people camping the same area, all spamming E to get a chance of looting. Which means only 1 person gets it, making everyone else waste their time.

On top of this, it's not just like once you can harvest a node you get the lead. Some people get it 1st time, but others have been waiting 11 hours.... that level of RNG is absolutely awful and has led to some pretty toxic behaviour in Shadowfen.

ZOS I think most people understand that the mythic items need some sort of a grind to keep people playing longer, but this sort of grind pits players against each other and isn't fun. Spamming E for hours on end is rubbish.

And for those of you saying 'just wait, it'll get better with fewer people farming' - I had to spend 4 hours in Shadowfen farming the lead before I got it, and nobody else was camping my node. So that's 4 hours of my time just spent spamming E. When free time is limited it's quite frustrating to have this as an experience, please do better next time.

    Totally agree on that.

Maybe, just maybe, if leads could be given to all members of group/large group once one of the members would find one, people would organize and cooperate instead of making a chase for a nirnroot.

[snip] Zos is very lenient to the rng of this game, excluding crown crate apex mount drops. You guys can keep listening to hamster mathematicians with spread sheets or you can start farming leads with your alts. I keep saying this over and over again, farm the leads with your alts, not your main. You will get better results.

This is an easy mmo. At least we don’t have to do something outrageous like farm 35,000 dragon pelts or pick 20,000 Nirnroot nodes to get the mythic lead drop.

Utterly disappointed that I purchased the Greymoor expansion with the Blackwood only to find that after the awful Scrying grind, the actual real grind for leads is so far removed from the concept of fun that I wonder if the game developers actively despise those of us who play.

Putting a lead on trash mobs in Glenumbra on the lowest level public dungeon that has almost NO mobs and drop next to nothing has to be something that is so cogitatively removed from good sense that it must be a mistake and not the purposeful result of giving paying customers the middle finger, right?

That's not rhetorical - I want to know.

This is, by far, the worst implementation of a lead for any antiquity item released thus far.

The problem is not that it takes time to find, most players are okay with that. The problem is in the implementation, which leads to crowds of people clamoring for a single node and then standing there, hour after hour, in the hopes of getting it.

Whether you subject yourself to this activity on your "main" or an alt is irrelevant, the experience created by the choice of lead source is the same. Thousands of people standing around in one spot trying to loot a lead from a node for hours.

The fact that they implemented it anyway tells us one of two things (or perhaps both): They didn't anticipate the lead source would create this mind-numbing congested situation, or didn't care that it would.

In either case, it's a decision that's entirely unimaginative at best, and somewhat sadistic at worst. There were plenty of more engaging alternatives they could have used.

Imagine taking away instant gratification and calling it sadistic. It’s day 1 or week 1 of the release, the crowds will eventually go away.

As a matter of fact, Zos should implement more complex things so that everyone will somewhat progress in a parallel line. Yeah from now on I’d like to see every pve related set/mythic be found in Cyrodiil and PvP related items be found in dungeons and trials. [snip]

What is ridiculous is something outrageous like getting worlds first Hardmode clear on a new trial, the day the content was released. Everyone wants to get to the finish line fast, and they want it now.

What is reasonable about having to farm 30-40 hours for a single lead? This argument is a deflection of blame from implementation onto players who would simply rather SOMEWHAT enjoy the experience of hunting down a lead.

Crowd will eventually die down, ay? So people hunting for the lead 2-3 months from now will have a grand old time, while we sit around like idiots playing whack-a-mole with our new best friend Nirnroot node.

It's a very, very poorly implemented lead. That's the nicest way I can phrase that without running foul of the ToS.

i'm so, SO glad i don't care about the Kilt. i stopped caring about Mythics when Thrassian Stranglers got obliterated. from BIS item to something noone ever uses. then Malacath got gutted as well. not to worry, that Kilt will get the same treatment. it may be BIS now, but in 2-3 patches nobody will care about it, ZOS will take care of that. you buy expansions (or chapters, rather) to get the new Mythic item(s) and after a while you realise that you paid for nothing, as you won't use that particular Mythic item (that could have, actually, been the main or only reaslon for you to spend your money on that expansion) any more. so i buy chapters for the story (and stick with my lowly 70-75k DPS). my sanity is more important for me than some Kilt. lucky me..

not giving a damn' about the Kilt i was wondering why Shadowfen became the most popular zone all of a sudden. ran through it yesterday and there were tons of people everywhere. so now i know :D
