Monthly Crown Showcase Problem...

ZOS please STOP releasing these articles with items like "The Sylvan Spriggan" being listed with no information on how it's acquired.

I made sure I had crowns set aside for this polymorph. JUST to find out that it costs 500 crown gems. That's something people should know in advance. This feels like a bait and switch. Not to mention, I bought three 15 packs of crown crates just to get a little over 400 crown gems to buy my Wild Hunt Mount. i repeat... three 15 crown packs. 15000 crowns.... and I still didnt have 500 crown gems...

To earn 500 crown gems to buy this polymorph and if you have little to no remaining crown gems, this will probably run you over $100 depending on your RNG. This needs to stop. Advertise what these items are going to cost before you list them, especially when they are only up for a few days to a week. Im not spending over $100 to get this polymorph. I didnt save my crown gems because you didnt advertise how this item was being sold. Your article only states "The Sylvan Spriggan will be available in the Crown Store on all platforms for a limited time, from April 29 to May 6 at 10am EDT."

STOP doing this.

same. Normally I dont speak up and just let it be. But lately the crown store has been getting out of hand and this method of listing things as crown gems is starting to become a real problem.

My guess, ZOS doesn't list prices to reduce players from not spending before release of new Crown Store items.

I agree they should put crown and gem prices in the showcase. Especially if its gems. Would make planning so much easier. I'm sorry you didn't have enough, but I knew from past experiences the cheapest "gem" exclusive was 300 and the max was 600 so I saved a bunch knowing it wasn't going to be cheap.

I don’t understand why they don’t make things more affordable for players. The time developing the item is the same whether they sell a few spriggan morphs for 500 gems or thousands for 100 gems. They would make more money making it cost less because people would actually buy it. The same goes for the majority of the items they sell. It would also make the players happier.

And to top it all off, the polymorph reportedly is a bit lacking in unique sounds and animations too!

Crazy high price (in a currency you can only get through gambling boxes), plus subpar quality?! Where do I not sign up?!

    ?? I'm confused.

I don't disagree that they should put the price clearly listed in the Crown Showcase, but they did label the Spriggan as "Crown Gem Exclusive". They have the phrase "Crown Gem Exclusive" right above the name of the item in the showcase.

I remember them labeling it crown exclusive because I remember seeing that at the beginning of the month and I started saving up my gems all month long just for this polymorph.

I went back to look at the April showcase, and it does indeed still list the Spriggan as a crown gem exclusive right about the name.

But you're right that they should release info on how much things cost. I would prefer to know ahead of time how much crown gems and crowns I should save for things so I can buy accurately.

unfortunately, this is not a ZOS problem. This is a Sony, Microsoft problem. I used to play on console and every time a patch needed to be released it had to go through certification process where sony or microsoft evaluates patches and information before it uploads it to their server to be downloaded by the user on PSN or Xbox live.

People really should be going after Sony or Microsoft to reevaluate their patching certification process for games like MMOs that require more frequent and sometimes emergency patches. on PC, ZOS doesnt have to go through this. They can just take the server offline and push a patch through their own launcher. It doesn't need to be certified by anyone else.

Also... just one of the many reasons i left console after playing ESO on it for almost 5 years. I'll never go back.

We were told after the last debacle that they had the option to rebuild and re-certify in 48h. But that they found a way to not have to do that.

So why is this now a 2 month wait?

This is fair. I didnt notice it was under the "Crown gem Exclusive" part. Maybe they need to move this to the text under the item. Im sure, most people like me, just skim through the listings based on images to the thing they like and read the description. Because i went to this article several times this month and completely by-passed any of the sub catagories of the listings.

Maybe the solution is to put an icon on the bottom right of the image with a crown gem or a crown erm crown? That way at quick glance someone can know wether or not its crown gem or crown crown. But the value should also be posted. 500 crown gems is ALOT. and if you didnt plan for this in advance... then GG.

Im assuming when they said they had the option, then it means Sony or Microsoft gave them the option. But I think that because they are already going through a certification process for blackwood, it's slowing the proccess down on another certification and possibly, certifying for this patch would further push back the certification process for backwood resulting in a later release, so instead they move the patch into the blackwood patch to speed up the process. It's just a very unfortunate consequence of playing on console.

But either way, this is still and will always be an issue with Sony and Microsoft. Sometimes they are quick with certifying patches, other times they take much longer. either way they need to improve their certification process so players dont get the short end of the stick.

I had overlooked that on my first perusal as well, but it’s clearly there, not hidden in fine print or anything, so that’s on me, not ZOS. The price is more Gems than I had saved but likewise more than the polymorph is worth to me. That’s okay. I got a lot of cool stuff that I like even better this past month. :)

There is an emergency patching process they could follow, but they're choosing not to. Sounds like a ZOS problem to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That's completely fair. It seems a lot of people are not noticing the header texts, which means they need to think about putting that text somewhere else so that it's more noticeable (or putting it in several places). Having a little gem icon in the corner of the image would also work well I think.

But yeah, it would DEFINITELY be so helpful to know how many crowns and/or gems something costs so that we can save up better. Expecting people to drop $100s of dollars on crates the day a new gem exclusive lands all because they didn't give the price tag before hand isn't very effective; it's more likely to make people too depressed to buy crates in the first place because they see a price tag they could never reach within the short time the item is available.

Whereas, if people knew ahead of time it was going to be so many gems, they might have been able to gradually save up money and open crates occasionally throughout the month in order to get enough gems.

In other words, ZOS might even get MORE crate sales if they told people ahead of time what prices would be. At the very least, having prices ahead of time would let people know whether they have a chance of making enough to get it or not instead of selling a sort of false hope.

From what io heard, FFXIV also doesnt need to patch their game as much as ZOS does for ESO. Thus FF is less likely to run into this issue.

If i also remember correctly, FF found a way to create their own mini launcher inside of the console game, which might allow them to by pass certain certification proccess. Cause i remember when i downloaded the free trial for FF on PS4... the game client finished downloading but when i launched it... it was just another launcher that then had to download the game. Which is pretty smart when you think about it.

BUT eso doesn't do that... all their updates are through the game client on the Sony/Microsoft side of things. besides the small hot fixes they can do on their end through the server.

I don't mind the Spriggan being 500 gems as long as the next one is obtainable some easier way like achievement or Impressario. In the end I would like more spriggans being obtained.

I mean, I guess it's fair for you to feel the way you feel, but keep in mind that "the next one" won't be the original one! A lot of people specifically wanted the vanilla green & bark look vs the "Bloodroot" or "Coldbooger" versions (or whatever the other-color versions will be called). And ZOS absolutely knows this, yet priced this like they did anyway.

Given the slow rotation time for most Crown Store goods, it could very well be years before we see this green Spriggan polymorph again. I think that's worth noting!

I really love the datamined description of red Spriggan:

"Like the vines choking the Bloodroot Forge, your boughs share Hircine's thirst for prey. Bathe your roots in the blood of the fallen and feel it course through the crimson arteries of the predator that you are."

I like both Hircine and creepy things, and all my characters have "vice" blood in them (vampires and werewolves) - even those who are not fully transformed :o

Agree... I wouldn't mind pleasant surprises, but I can't really imagine how all those different Spriggan versions will be released.
Your article only states "The Sylvan Spriggan will be available in the Crown Store on all platforms for a limited time, from April 29 to May 6 at 10am EDT."

The article also states that it's crown-gem exclusive... Based on prices of all previous exclusive items, my guess for price was 400 gems - not too far from actual price.

I understand that this price is high for many people, but thanks to the article we had almost a month of planning some budget. They even returned Wild Hunt crate season to overlap with the polymoprh's release. It was rather generous - to offer choice of two crate seasons for people who might need to open more crates for this polymorph.
Usually when some gem-exclusive item appears, we have only one crate season in store.

Overall, I agree that it would be nice to see the price of every item in showcase articles :)

This advertisement didn’t show up until yesterday, the day it released. The crown gem exclusive was on the crown store showcase for April in small print. I expected it to be about 200 gems, not more than an apex mount or almost the price of a gem exclusive mount.
