On PC/NA, 700:1 is way too overpriced, don't even bother with those people. Highest I've seen is 400:1 and you can find people selling for 250-300:1.

I don't mind if ZOS sets a standard rate and make crown to gold a formalized process via the trade window.

Also for the general respect of all ESO players, coz in many cases, in addition to the fact that the trading price is high (already a cheat in itself), many of these players are definitely cheated by other players who take the money and then disappear (and here the birth of the middleman = financial loan sharks).

It might be better the way it is now since its set by the individual, if they set a fixed price then players may consider it too rigid, being too low or too high. They could still trade it the way they have it now, but a set price becomes the median value that they would adhere by and rarely stray from it. If it were like EVE Online or WoW with a token system, prices could get way out of control beyond the means of the average player if manipulators with high gold pump it up.

I'm not here to argue that they should. I simply said I don't mind. But it would be really nice to trade gold and crown gifts via the trade window instead of playing the trust game.

I do not buy for more than 400 gold per crown

But I stopped using those discord communities since they set their price for more than 400 gold/crown. They even have "Crown Crate addict" status which prevents a player from buying more than 15 crates per season or something

At such rates as on those guilds/discord servers, people should just stop buying gifts... Gift sellers would see that there is no demand for such outrageous prices, and either lower them or stop selling.
If sellers stop selling gifts, the amount of purchased crown packs will greatly reduce. Nobody wins, everyone is unhappy.

If we finally have safe system for trading gold for crowns, I think more people will participate in it from both sides, setting the price lower everywhere.

If instead of safe trade option, developers would introduce automated system like in GW2, everything will depend on ratio. I believe it wouldn't be high, cause people would barely use it.
Also, if we look at cost of some houses in gold and crowns (like Ebonheart Chateau housing), the exchange rate would be 316 gold/crown. Unfurnished version costs either 3 785 000 gold, or 12 000 crowns.
At 316 gold/crown, I would buy more crates items than at 350/375/400 gold/crown

I remember good old times when gifting was introduced in 2018 - price was no more than 200 gold/crown on the very first discord server

No. Why should players who are not spending real world money be the ones to determine the market value? Why should sellers not be compensated for inflation? Leave pricing to supply & demand forces.

Had ZoS been a bit smart they let us buy an crown lockerbox with say 1000 crowns.
This can be sold in guild stores, stored, traded or gifted. If a bit evil the box would cost 1200 crowns or something.
Crown price would still be set by marked but it would been an far more accessible marked.

Downside for ZoS might be that more would sell their ESO+ crowns while lots in the discord groups buy lots of crowns to get gold for housing and similar.

^^ This. The seller puts their price per crown in, and the buyer chooses how many crowns they want up to the maximum the seller has available. Both have to confirm before the trade is completed. Safe and simple.

Things are only worth what people will pay for them. If someone offers to sell crowns at 700:1 and nobody buys them then they aren't worth that much. If people pay it then they're worth that much. People's arbitrary opinions on what something is or isn't worth are subjective and mean little. Nobody is going to sell me a brand new Rolls-Royce for $20,000 just because I want the price to be $20,000 lol

I don't care if ZOS sets a rate or not. But the trade window for crown gifts for gold should be in the game. People are already doing it by trading gold first and getting the gift afterwards and scammers take advantage of this.

I don't think anyone suggested to sell gold in the crown store. So not sure why you brought it up.

You do realize people already buy gold with real money via third party sites right?

Also, in your example you make it sound so easy to find someone with 30m gold lying around and willing to buy 100k crowns.

If its overpriced don't pay it. The highest I have seen on PCNA is 400 - 1 but its usually around the 200/300 - 1

ZOS won't do a thing about it, so long as someone is buying crowns in the end, they still win.

You have 4 options pay the overpriced rate if your desperate and have the gold/don't want to spend time looking around.

Spend a bit of time looking and find someone with a more reasonable rate.

Buy the crowns yourself from the website.

Or give up on buying them for the time being.

Third party gold selling sites are against TOS and this people get a permaban if it gets out. Sooner or later, doesn't matter.
I brought crown store up because I was not sure what trade window was meant in relation to ZOS making price cap or what was it.
You can easily sell 100k crowns for 30 million gold in general and it does not have to be only one person. I have seen multiple people today offering millions of gold for gifting crown items

The simplest easiest answer is a no fee COD on gifts from the crown store. Seller stipulates the amount of gold they want buyer either agreed or returns the item. Returns should then be able to be resold back to the crown store as its an unclaimed gift.

This was no one gets scammed and the seller and buyer both get what they want

It isn't quite that simple. You are dealing with something outside of the game. As it is now the seller has to purchase the crown item you want as a gift. The item isn't in the game yet until that player actually sends the item. The only way this would work is if they put in a way for crowns to be sold instead of having to purchase the items as gifts. Even then this would still include something taking place outside of the game as there would need to be a verification that the sellers account actually had crowns available.

You have the option to buy crowns with your own real money and not others. They can ask whatever they want, it's their money.

Pay it or buy crowns yourself. Simple.

I would like to leave it up to the players to decide their own fees as it is now, but it would certainly be great if there was a secure trade or COD system as there exists for selling in-game items for gold.

They should have crown vouchers like Eve Online's Plex system. I buy a Crown voucher in the CS for 100 crowns. i put it on my guild trader for the price i want. You purchase from trader like any other item. You open it like a style page. When you do it adds 100 crowns to your account. Simple and safe and allows for healthy competition between sellers.

The reason why crown prices dipped so low was because we had a large supply due to some pretty big sales. Now demand is catching up to supply and the price is starting to creep up to a normal exchange rate.

What's to stop someone doing that now? (Aside from the fact that a trading guild with 3 people is impossible because you need at least 50 to unlock the trader function, but I realise that's beside the point.)

If anything an official system could help protect against situations like that. For example Guild Wars 2 allows players to exchange gold for gems (aka crowns) and vice versa through a tab in the store menu, but like ESO the supply of both is determined by players - you can only take out as much gold as other people have put in, and unlike ESO the exchange rate is based not only on the supply of each but also the number of recent transactions each way. Individual purchases are capped and each time you make an exchange that it will adjust the exchange rate so if you tried to buy out huge amounts of gold in one go you'd get less gold for your gems each time and potentially, if you did it enough, the supply would run out and you'd be unable to exchange any more.

That's similar to the situation now where someone trying to trade 100k crowns for gold would need to find enough buyers to get it all, but currently those buyers are unlikely to be aware of how many other exchanges they've made and wouldn't know they're flooding the market and that buyers could demand a lower price as a result. There's no controls on the system except the number of buyers available in a short space of time.

Just read the news on the market I use. It seems like the OP was heard: ZOS bans gift sellers and intermediaries. What's going on? Do they trying to take it under control? If there was an ingame system for safe exchange, I would be happy, but for now it looks like ruining of market...
