I've been told by many others it isn't that great, and, here, I'm seeing people asking for it to be nerfed? What's up? How is it powerful? Please advise!

Ok... I've just been looking at this ring, wondering if it was worth using. I've been told by many others it isn't that great, and, here, I'm seeing people asking for it to be nerfed? What's up? How is it powerful? Please advise!

It's mostly "so powerful" in PvP, were crit is discounted heavily to begin with by the wide use of the Impenetrable armor trait and such. And it buffs damage that many believe it shouldn't, like set procs for instance.
A lot of the people who advised you it wasn't "worth it" were probably thinking from a PvE perspective, where that's largely true. Giving up other sets' potential for that ring is usually a wash or a loss in PvE.

Malacath has the effective damage increase of around 40% crit at 160% crit damage. We start at 10%, so that is like a 30% crit bonus and -depending on class- a 10% crit damage bonus. That's a lot of damage for one item. It's only stronger next patch when all sources of crit are getting a nerf too.Sheezabeast wrote: »Bring other sets up to par with it it. So either nerf one item piece or strategically increase every single set in the game? No one likes nerfs but if one item is causing an issue it makes little sense to change every single other item in the game in order to bring it in line.
That's like building a new house because you broke a window.

So, in other words... the PVP players are seeking to get it nerfed, while in PVE it's either balanced, or needs buffing? Sounds exactly like what happens in games that try and balance PVP and PVE - the PVP players think something is overpowered, whine and complain until it gets nerfed, which cause PVE players to suffer, because they had something that worked perfectly fine, or actually needed help (but they kept getting it, or it was taking a spot where something useful could be - as in the case of leads from Antiquarian content).
Thus making the item bad enough to not use, suddenly, or making it even worse, yet still showing up or taking a loot spot, etc.
*sigh* And, people wonder why there is so much hate from the PVE crowd for the PVP crowd... I think it's fairly justified.

I mean... it doesn't need to be so "us vs them" though. The PvP crowd isn't your enemy on this one. This is on ZOS because they didn't foresee (or care about) some of the issues this ring brings to the forefront. I'd bet if we hopped over to the PTS forums just before MBoB was introduced, we'd see threads warning of... well, exactly what happened. The ring just isn't balanced well, for either side of the game.
I'm not a math wizard or PvP aficionado, so I might be off on the numbers (or basic idea) here, but ZOS could probably buff the ring to +30% damage, but not allow it to apply to procs anymore. Or something along those lines. You know, find a way to make it worthwhile in PvE (which it currently isn't), and simultaneously tune down its overbearingness in PvP (which it needs). It's not like everyone is trying to ruin the ring, or remove it from the game; most reasonable people just want to see it balanced.
