who knows...but we'll find out soon enough. A new weapon or skill line as many mentioned sounds plausible but whatever it is I'm sure it will be something long and arduous to grind B)

The only thing is new weapons like holy jibblets its so limiting..

Limiting? Yep. That's pre-gunpowder weapons for you. The choice is Poke Slice or Bash and that's it really.

The only thing missing is pole arms and they are best used in a static block vs Mounted troops as once someone armed with a penknife gets within point distance you are pretty much done.

What WOULD make it interesting is if they introduced armour with resistances - NPCs in plate take 1/4 damage vs poke 1/2 vs slice and1/1 vs bash and so on. Then a group in a dungeon would have to look at scouting ahead, see who is wearing what and plan accordingly. This opens a can of worms for PVP of course and really limits what you are allowed to do with costumes. Makes enchantments much more critical of course.

But Weapons? nah, weapons are done.

Try joining your local medieval or viking society and having a go - most countries have them. And discover the importance of stamina

For me, the selling point is nostalgia, and not just "Oblivion" nostalgia...

Since we (as players, not characters) will see Mehrunes Dagon for the third time, I'd really love to meet Imago Storm, his Grand Vizier from "Battlespire". I was a bit sad that I didn't get to meet him during the events of "Oblivion", but IMO that actually was to be expected. Story-wise. I mean... if I was Mehrunes Dagon, I wouldn't want Imago around me anymore, either. But since this all happens in the future, I would so enjoy meeting some of the "Battlespire" NPCs - especially MD's lieutenants like Imago Storm, Xivilai Moath and so on. And - tadaa - male Spider Daedra. Those guys were hilarious in "Battlespire".

Apart from the nostalgia, they could easily add a new activity along the lines of the Antiquity system... something that wouldn't influence gameplay balance. Like, well, I don't know... explorable underwater areas, for example, where one could search for sunken treasures.

now we get this oblivion crisis. we get back the bad guy from oblivion also. i mean. why and how? at this point the game is non canon for me. its feels like the Legends from Star Wars.

Canon says that Mehrunes Dagon made several attempts to invade Nirn, it was not only Oblivion Crisis. ESO takes place before Oblivion Crisis, they are not bringing him back, they may tell a story of one his previous attempts or whatever.

Since when has canon mattered in the ESO universe? There are (were) no dragons in the Age of Man, but they magically appeared in Elsweyr to sell content.

You can't use lore to rule potential story lines out with these folks. Anything is possible, and since they didn't even bother to retcon the unexplained reappearance of the Companions, don't expect it to make sense, either.

Who said that there were no dragons in the Age of Man? O.O Nahfahlaar and Paarthurnax would like to have a word with you xD. Especially Nahfahlaar, who appears first in TES: Redguard (1998).

EDIT: also dragonlings from TES: Daggerfall and dragons in Elsweyr being part of TES lore.

But we're in the middle of the second era, dragons don't reappear until the fourth era.

sadly since the original storywriter left. everything is possible thanks to the "..."

Im pretty sure they are revamping pvp and adding new pvp zones......... :(

I'm not a lore expert but isn't this around the time the war ended? Or am I just salty about performance and expect them to end the war because they can't fix it? Lol

Really want a new weapon type. Something hybrid would be amazing.

Spear was thrown around as an idea
Another type of caster weapon like a rune or focus
    And 1h+rune

I suspect for whatever reason that adding new weapons is particularly annoying though - don't know why but suspect if it was easy they would have already.

Also much harder to monetize a new weapon - imagine getting weapon drops in a dungeon that yoy can't equip because you don't own the expansion. Although to a lesser extent I guess its true when you get JC materials too.

And I'm probably the only one sitting here wishing I was able to dive and explore underwater content...

Sounds cool in theory but in practice every mmo has tried it and all have failed to make it fun. Short of cheating and just having players walk on the ground normally in a underwater-styled world, I think the idea is doomed to fail. People don't like the addition of a 3rd dimension when moving around

I am genuinely curious, how would they even begin to balance a Spell Crafting Skill Line? How would that even work in theory for a MMO? Like you would level it up and what? Create your own skills but how do you balance that? Are we just getting a new skill line where we need to craft in order to unlock skills? Do we need to invest gold to create better skills (like how it worked in Oblivion)?

Personally I don't think it would work in away where it would genuinely feel like we were crafting or creating our own unique spells/abilities.

I was hoping for a new class but due to the recent announcements lets hope we get at least a new weapon skill line.
And then the usual content; new trials, zones, collectibles, balance changes, etcetera.

If we wont have any new systems or classes or weapon skills - it will be fine as maybe they will focus on fixing other mess in this game.

But part of me is worried, because if there wont be new skills or classes - they may come up with some new crazy mythic items or OP gear sets - so more ppl will be willing to buy new content, not just for story & lore, but for PvP advatage and PvE end game score runs.

they could go the easy route. each buff/debuff has a certain cost (magicka/stamina) to it, adding several of those effects into one spell could have a multiplier on it. same goes for damage in form of scaling, direct, over time and such.
wouldn't be that hard at all.

Almost every update has some very strong, must-have sets.

If the past is any indication, this year they will nerf Ring of the Pale order and Cloudrest sets to Oblivion (pun intended!) and introduce some more 2 or 4 Mythic items plus trials sets that will be the new top of the line (Greymoor's trials sets were horrible, but probably only because they didn't have time to redesign them after they backtracked on the light attack changes).

They NEED something else to sell the chapters. I don't think nostalgia alone, with no new systems, will do.

I'm very invested in ESO but I skipped Greymoor right until the Pale Order ring. I would happily wait for the story to become part of the ESO+ subscription if not for the need to access the antiquities system.

It is safe to say the chapter will have SOMETHING. It won't be as big as a class, but probably something like Antiquities or more to draw people in.

That would get really busted depending on the buff/debuff. Especially in PVP.

Personally I think we could all agree that if the Devs took a step back from developing a lot of new content and fixed a lot of the bugs and added a bunch of Quality of Life improvements to the game we would be happy. That's what I am hoping the selling point of this year will be. Build a stronger base. Get it reinforced and come up with some new badass systems next year to keep to keep the hype going.

There used to be definitely more in the past, even after racial rebalance when Argonains & Woodelves got kinda shafted. I would say that proportions were more or less the same as People who like Khajiits.

But overtime, a lot of people who like them, have most likely left the game. Even just by looking a zone chat and number of guilds, or Argonian player characters I meet in various zones - there is less & less.

Idk if it happened during Esweyr year long story (that drawed a lot of Khajiit fans / furies to the game, thus proportion had changed), or maybe after, seeing how Argonians were pretty much almost always pushed aside and kinda treated as unimportant side-kicks, 2nd grade characters, people realised that their favourite race will never get a year - long - story. I mean they got only one base game zone and small story DLC. All other races have way more than that. Even with Greymoor year long story, that in theory should have at least one NPC or small quest involving an Argonian (since there is some Ebonheart pact related plot)... I mean as far as I can tell there was nothing like this in 2020 year long story.
