Okay but it still takes time when you go to access that half looted chest & I would rather there have not been a chest at all regardless of the fact of when the next chest would have spawned anyway.

Better to have no chest than get your hopes up and waste time checking if you’re looking for something specific. Especially when it’s something you’ve been searching for for a while (e.g. a lead) and RNG hasn’t been kind.
I don’t understand why it’s a difficult concept for some 🤷♀️

So getting an unopened chest & the things you wanted from it is a race then as the player who came 1st & got the trophy 'won' & if it's a race against other players to get the resource first then each player is out to win purely looking out for themselves & whether that leaves others players disappointed & or takes up their time is irrelevant.
I assume also as it's a race where you have to come first then if you see a player fighting a mob to get to a resource it's their loss because you can just take that resource whilst they're fighting that mob or in the 1-2 seconds (or whatever it is) after combat that they can't access said chest.
Is it opposite week or something where 'selfish' doesn't mean what it usually does?

How odd it is to value pixels over being considerate to others.
Yes.

Maybe there's some kind of underground chest farming runs to look for leads to level scrying/exchavating that people haven't yet shared with that one loud mouth in their social circle who runs it for the farmers by drawing everyone's attention to it.
On the other hand maybe that person's inventory was full and the don't have ready access to a merchant

Neither level (mild to high)or lack of disappointment is right or wrong; all are valid responses/feelings but it is a fact that some people/players don't care about others feelings while some do.
Okay. But the person who leaves behind the loot cannot know if the next person will be glad to get the items or would rather have nothing. So making a value judgment about them and calling them selfish, is where I think it's poor management of your disappointment.
It's not inherently selfish to leave loot behind. Some may view as leaving it behind in case someone else wants it. Some may not have anything in their bag they feel comfortable deleting to take it.
I disagree with the idea that because you personally don't like the way someone did something or felt disappointed, that the person that made you feel that way is automatically bad (e.g. selfish). Sometimes you simply have conflicting views on how a situation ought to be handled. That doesn't make them selfish.
I mean they could view you the same way. You expect me to delete things that I need just so you don't have to see trash?
You dont get the gold, experience, possibly set items that you might have wanted, & the chance for a lead.
If you're specifically looking for a lead spending a significant amount of time finding chests that have already been & left as 'used' with minor value items is very frustrating.
Surely other players must know that - if so yes it's selfish because they leave the chest there anyway - calling it an act of kindness or being considerate of other players because 'hey you didnt get the lead but at least I left you a trait stone & or glyph' is ridiculous.
I think we can only agree on one thing here which is that we disagree with each other lol - so you can continue to enjoy half-looted things & possibly half looting things yourself while I others will continue to be disappointed & find half looted things to be a negative experience that we feel reflects poorly on the person/s who half looted them

Not getting what you want is irrelevant to what the other person' mindset. I actually find the idea that the disappointed person's feelings are more valid than the people who would like the items is selfish. I also don't think that a total stranger should harm their gameplay experience so that you don't have to spend a single second of your time doing something you dislike. I find the expectation of that to be pretty selfish, personally.
Every label of selfishness about this theoretical other has been about the loot or the feelings on only the disappointed person. You don't take any consideration at all to other looters or the person who left the item behind.
And I have auto-loot set, and have a loot hoarding problem so no I don't personally leave anything behind.

Sounds like you may be one of those people who leave items in treasure chests then.
If so, is there anything I can say to convince you to stop? It's really quite selfish.
Why do you feel it is selfish? The next person gets items if they want them that they would not have otherwise received.

I am and no there's not. How exactly is it selfish? If I would've looted the whole thing you still wouldn't have gotten anything.

Then there would be no treasure chest when I got there, and that would be fine.
Instead, there is one, and it's got a 0% chance of anything decent in it.

Blame ZoS for putting trash items in there then? What do I want with a green quality Rubidite Maul of Flame?
I've pulled a Briarheart 2h from a previously opened chest before. One man's trash is another man's treasure and all that..

Why would I blame ZoS for your poor behaviour? At least we both agree that you're leaving trash.

Of course. If it was an item worth taking then why would I leave it?
