Can someone explain this to me?

Yesterday i ran into a very strange setup in BG. All 3 teams had 1 dedicated healer and 3 magica - 1 magden, 1 magplar, 1 magsorc (except my team, because Im a stamplar). We won, all players in a match had 1-3 deaths, I had like 15. Most of them did over 1 mil damage, I did ~300 k. All 3 teams played very tight (result was like 300/250/260 in the end).

Every time I TRIED to do some dmg and to go in, I had to roll away in a second and to spend all stamina/magica to survive - if I tried to go for a kill, I was insta dead. Im not a veteran pvper, but never seen a game like that. And while it was pretty tight, there were always more than a few guys in mid constantly fighting each other, but somehow without lethal consequncies for them, just for me. I was so ashamed the whole match just because I cant help my team in a any way and just feed points to the enemy.

Problem is, Im usually pretty decent at BGs and used to get high scores in kills (gear, skills, all maxed put of course). What the hell I have encountered yesterday? Enemy pvp ranks wasnt that high (later on I was in a match with more than a few overloards and warlods, where i scored most kills again).

There is a big difference between 'resto staff grand overlords' who have only ever played 1 character and actual PvP'ers who have vast experience across multi classes and all PvP types.

Sounds like your MMR was briefly high enough to pass you into the next tier.

Problem is, on this char I wasnt even in top 100 - I have the other one, which somehow got to 71 place the other day. It has hard to compete in deathmatches after that, but it was nothing I experienced in this match Im talking about.

It cant be that bad match because of me? One of my guesses, that it were a premades somehow, maybe a guild queued at the same time..On the other hand, hearing people say its "melee meta", I wonder is it on my end. But how the hell Im supposed to come into killing range without a bow - mid was in a constant AOE, roots, ultimas etc.

EDIT: and yes, heh, one of the grand overlords I have encountered later was dual wield/bow nb..havent noticed any exceptional performance

With the new system MMR doesn't work. Alot of times in max MMR bgs there is 1 low MMR player in every team, sometimes more sometimes few. It's annoying for for the max MMR players and definitely frustrating for not so experienced players, often resulting in having one player per team with 10 or more deaths. Looks like you were that player and your teammates were max MMR Players.

Seems like your melee character had a bad time in such a ranged type of fight.

Matchups matter a lot in PVP, always have a strategy about how to approach your opponents in BGs.

We would have to get technical about PVP tactics to explain further.

The thread isnt that popular - if you have some tips, just through it in

Problem is, that usually I dont have many problems going 1 vs 1 with magica classes. But when they stack....Also, I have noticed in the same match, that none of the teams even tried to break through, push hard on 1 of the enemy teams and wipe it out quickly. We just jerked in the mid, just soooo boring. For stamina class. For casters its probably fun to try out rotations in such static.

I concur with @OlumoGarbag , at off peak that happens frequently, and during peak occasionally.

It also could be your build/class. I have a StamBlade that is very good at what it does (not ganking, but still squishy) and I simply can't use it in BG's. If my MMR is high it's like the situation you described above but probably 10x worse. If I drop down a tier I'm suddenly going 20-1 and getting bored.

Moral of the story is some classes/builds simply won't function in high MMR BG's, so my StamBlade is Cyro only. You might have to rework your build for more defense/mitigation and more timed burst rather then constant stats.
