the problem with the lag began about the same time that 2h weapons were counted as 2 items for sets

so the simple solution would be to require 2h items to count as one item again
After careful consideration (and oh! so much deliberation) we have concluded that you circumstance sounds too much like a l2p issue for it to be just a mere coincidence.

    PvP performance issues, including lag, began with the Lighting Patch in October (?) 2014. It’s only been getting worse ever since.

    That didnt increase lag.
    It was laggy before and laggy afterwards.

    But maybe we should remove sorc as its the root of all evil

    5G caused performance issues, its high frequencies cause interference with ESO. Notice how performance and lag keep getting worse as more 5G networks are built?

    No. Despite what the voices tell you, lag is a byproduct of the game having more calculations than the server can handle.
    During the lightning patch they moved most calculations server side to prevent people from using CE, as well as implemented anti bot software into the game.
    Just think about how many calculations heal over times take when used on multiple players. The server has to check the caster crit rate healing done etc as well as the healed player ls healing taken bonuses for EVERY Tick. And that's just one part, the same goes for dots, positioning etc.
    Unless they heavily simplify stuff or invest into supercomputers for servers, there won't be any significant improvement.
    But pvp makes them very little money compared to solo questers buying recolored ponies and ***.
    So yeah, on the flip side New World will prob release this year!

    I think it's an indication of how misinformed the opening post is...
    so the simple solution would be to require 2h items to count as one item again

    Because logically an item that requires two hands (thus excludes option for a 2nd item off hand) shouldn't consume 2 slots and should only count as a single item in a 5pc set /sarcasm

    Also curious how a decrease in items to calculate against increases lag...
