Seriously...why have @ID name in guild chat instead of the character name

So for the better part of this last week I've been contemplating on why the guild chat is basically showing up the players account ID's instead of characters name, while zone and the others are basically showing your character name.
It seems so absolutely dumb that it's not even funny. I actually have an easier time recognizing people over zone chat that I have in my social guild, with people that I play on a daily basis, just because of their weird id names, and not even a bit of info about their character name, unless I go to guild rooster.

What is the purpose of a character name or a nickname in-game if all you see @randomid is saying something. Please introduce a function to change this to character name, or just change it by default. I can almost guarantee, no one will complain about it.
By contrary, it will make people feel safer, rather THAN HAVING YOUR LOGIN ID AVAILABLE FOR EVERYONE TO SEE.

Hopefully we, the player base, don't have to go into even more details as to why showing the @ID was a bad idea in the first place and needs to be changed asap.

Thank you,
Darkro

Making things account-bound...well it's a choice they made. Fine.

But the login ID should not appear (security issues blah blah). There should be a "Nickname" of our choosing that replace the login in-game.
Please introduce a function to change this to character name
    Agreed.

    Good.

Nyah, I kind of like it especially since I have 50 million alts (7) and saves me from having to explain who each of my characters is in guild... THAT said, if they would add a character list to each name on the guild page, it would be nice.

Yes, have a single display name. No, don't have it the same as your login ID.

And so this question arises again, maybe if enough people say something it might change, although I doubt it. This has been bought up many times since betas.

This is why the only guild I'm a part of is with a bunch of people who already know my user ID, because it's the same name I have on both Steam and Xbox live.
As for your initial question in the title of this discussion: It's not your character name because guilds are account wide. If you look at the guild info (hitting G) you can check the roster and see the IDs. This makes it easier to track who is in your guild, rather than checking the roster and seeing some character names change because the person made a new character. It helps to weed out the undesirables.

I always thought it was dumb. The ID name should of never been shown... that's half of what someone needs to access your account.

I do not care what shows in the rooster, I care of what gets showed in the chat. For all I care keep showing ID in rooster, even though I see it as a security breach as you give half the answer to any hacker, the other half is the password.

Agree!! Once I realized this was happening I immediately logged into my account to edit it....which .. you can't. We really need to be able to change it now that we realize it's public. Never would I have imagined they would use your login ID to publicly identify you in game.

Have to agree that it's time that in-game the account name is replaced with the character name you are on at that time. Currently it's impossible to see which character my friends or guildmembers are logged in on, which is plain stupid. Especially as the only names I see on characters while walking through the world is their character names. How am I supposed to find a friend or guildmember, standing right next to me if I have no way of identifying him/her?

Currently you can see character names in the guild rooster if you mouse over their ID name. But yes, very inefficient and annoying.
There have been few other games that tried this and got so much complain from their customer.
One would of though people learn from their own and others mistakes. Guess not yet.

Agree 100%! Like you can do on this forum!

I dislike it, and it gave me a few problems in GW2 with my guild. This was because I create a character or two for my seven year old nephew to play on, and when he's playing, my guildies think that I've been ignoring them by not replying to tells, requests etc (general guild chat things). It's not that my nephew ever reads the chat or mail - although he may do one day - but it does give rise to some social problems I've faced in this game as opposed to others where I wouldn't have his characters in the guild. Just a minor issue in comparison to all the others going around, but a small personal annoyance nonetheless.

I would like to know why they decided to use username in guild chat instead of the user's character name, other than to make it impossible to figure out who you're communicating with. I mean, why is it different to zone/group/say etc. There must be a reason surely?

Agreed. It's stupid as hell. Regardless of your security measures, advertizing half of your login info to everyone is just stupid. If you don't think so, give me half your bank account login info cause, hey, it's just your login, not the PW amirite?
  • c1r3gamerb16_ESO
I agree with OP. Account/login details should be protected and not made public to all and sundry. This is why I am reluctant to join any guilds other than the small friends guild I'm in where we know each other in RL.

Please close this security breach before something serious happens i.e. accounts getting hacked perhaps.

Have also wonder this for along time, and yes for a security point of view its must be change.. They have already think of this, by sending a email if you login from unknown IP Address with a access code..

Agree with the OP. It should be safer with character name or maybe learn from WoW and implement BattleTags. This should solve both privacy issues and the possibility to see your account even if you log a different char.
