The security concerns need to be acknowledged at some point. I heard somewhere that it has been brought to the attention of the devs during beta...but in the end it looks like nothing changed.

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌ you always have a great answer for us ! What can you tell us about this issue ? Can we expect a change at some point in the future ?
Look at my profile picture. Visualize that muffin...smelling it...taking a bite...
    Are you hungry now ?
    Good.

Totally disagree with OP. I know my friends and guildies by their gamertags (though I agree that that should not be the same as your login code) because most of us have 7-9 alts. I actively play 4-5 different alts during the course of a day, and most very active players do a similar thing. It would be madness to try and remember each person's alt's names, let alone the fact that names can now be changed. (I have already changed 2 of my toon's names)

The reason why you can see the character name in zone chat, is because if you're gonna meet up with the person to buy or sell something for example, you are going to physically see the toon's name on the actual character as you stand face to face.

In guild chat, which tends to be an every day occurrence between the same people, it would just be crazy to try and keep track of who is who during the course of the day as they keep changing toons. I know most of my most active guildies by their gamer tag already, because that is what I see when the person chats. Guild chat is a totally different thing, and serves a different function to zone chat.
