How often do you die in PVP? (Cyrodiil not BG)

I know that there is no way to measure this on console, and it will vary greatly by play style, but I wanted to do an informal survey on how often you actually die in PVP.

Darn ... I honestly didn’t think of that. Yeah, that makes sense.

My general purpose is to figure out if an all defensive strategy has as many benefits as many people proclaim under the premise of “well if you’re still dying” ...

If you go +30 min without dying on bg you are either playing with three healers who actually know game or cancer tank build.

Yet to die second after respawn is not good.

On cyrodil, too many variables. On weekday dsy/morning on empty campaing you can go forever without seeing anyoneoutside major keeps/resources.

Really depends on the balance of populations in cyrodiil. I mostly hop between keep battles so when EP has population advantage, not as often... can be less a than once an hour if we have emp and all of the scrolls... on the other hand if we are getting out s*** pushed in and about to be gated... I’m dying repeatedly minutes apart.

On an typical night of playing for a few hours I’ll probably die 10ish times on average.

No doubt. Clearly there is a lot of subjectivity on this and no scientific data to use. Just kind of wondering to myself what the benefits of an all defensive strategy vs an all out offensive strategy would be. For me switching to all out offense only saw my deaths raise maybe 10%. Meanwhile I can kill all but the absolute best tanks. Not saying I will, just that I can. Many people simply wouldn’t be able to even try.

I voted the last option cause I find it to be the most funny xD

Seriously now, the build I play the most with is a glass canon khajiit bow nightblade (no impen, all divines). If I manage to keep some distance and have my buffs up and ultimate ready, I have high chances of winning. But if I get to melee range, things get pretty tough cause my dmg mitigation is like wearing paper armor. :D

Another builds is an orc stamplar that doesnt do very high dmg but is very very hard to kill.

I also got a magsorc I use only in PVE and some BGs. Its a fantastic build and in my third day after starting the BGs for the first time, I got Battleground Butcher, Merciless and Paragon titles and scored around 200 kills. (dont do BGs anymore)

Yeah I tend to agree here. Since probably 80% of my deaths end up with me getting cc’d/dog piled by several people, I’m not gunna survive that whether I’m wearing a tankier build or damage build anyways. So might as well build for damage and get more kills in the meantime.

Well. In Cyrodil, depending if my moxie is rolling good, or feeling froggy, bout every 30mins or so.

I try to pick and choose my battles there. Im a coward and will be very cheap to ensure I die as little as possible, while using dirty tactics. :*

Climb broken towers. Place gate, mag shot off tower. Kite to cliffs near slaughterfish, mag shot. Snipe from keeps and bridges. Run / port away.

Nothing wrong with that! I like it when people challenge me to a duel after I Jesus beam them from 30 meters and 50 people away. If 1 on 1 skills were all that mattered in war the generals would be all UFC champions.

it's funny, when I'm on my magblade - not dying can almost become an issue...

can't tell you how many times I've trailed behind some ally group heading towards an enemy's home keeps (usually to retrieve or take a scroll) and that group will get all killed off, but, because I'm on a nightblade I'm able to simply cloak away before I can be cornered or killed...

i'll usually end up just riding around to do some sightseeing in an area I haven't visited for a while and take a break from fighting...

I sort of feel like there's little excuse for ever dying on a magblade...

I hear you. While I’m easy AF to kill on my horse or even in a 1 on 1 (we Magplars are finishers not starters) I have a crazy nack for being the last person alive in a keep defense. It’s mostly just situational awareness of knowing when to move from the wall, to the inner building, to upstairs, and finally when to make my final stand. When I’m playing by myself, no issue. In the once every blue moon I’m in a group, the number of times someone has said “ok, everyone res back at ...” only for me to yell “I’m still fighting!!!” like a lunatic has to number in the hundreds.

Cant give any kind of accurate answer because it always depends on how brokenly overpowered - or not so, the enemy teams are at the time I go to pvp.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

It depends on everything from hamster in server to how many jumps me at once. I’m also not afraid of in game death so I can be very come’n’get-it, which sometimes do not help at all on staying alive.

I can have a successful hour and the next spend more time in the horse simulator than war

I’d say once an hour or so, mainly depends how I’m playing and where / when I can find fights. I much prefer BGs but cyrodill is alright when you can find fights, I hate horse simulator though and feel that’s what I spend a lot of time doing.

When I play I typically do something like a 2 hour Cyrodiil sesh and end up with around 4 deaths (counted via an addon). So on average probably this.

A kill/death leaderboard is quite lacking. They should add it along with things like most damage taken in one life, most heals, most damage, even most rezzes and repairs.

Not sure how meaningful this leaderboard would be.... anyone can hide in a giant ballzerg and get a very impressive k/d ratio by just spamming ranged executes and never putting themselves in danger. Not really fair to compare that player to a legit 1vxer or small scale group that can manage a 30:1 KB/D rate

this is a really pointless benchmark, since it very much depends on what you do in Cyro. Questing, Dungeons, hanging out at home base having a glass of wine and nice chats... why would you die there at all, xept from liver failure ;) Otoh, even when playing the map it really depends on the situation, if you're constantly fighting outnumbered you'll probably have more deaths than the other way round...

A somewhat more telling benchmark for me when evaluating a build is kill/death ratio or even better, killing blow/death ratio. But even that very much depends on what I actually do. Solo or grouped, zerg surfing or small scale...
