    2. The Launcher
In the last couple of patches, thousands of people were locked out and/or forced to completely reload the game client, due to launcher errors, and some still are. Whether losing track of which update is being patched, breaking during the repair process, or the now infamous 209 errors, we'd love it if the launcher became robust enough to patch properly.

No one is talking about this but - I bet most of the launcher errors and problems are ADD ON related and no one is fessing up.
I had my first launch disaster post-patch and was sort of amazed "wow, it's happening to me" - the client couldn't verify version or some technical nonsense. Then I remembered my add on's probably hadn't had time to update and pulled them out of the live/add on folder - poof, launcher worked.

So there's things that people who are the most hysterical may not be taking into account. And there's all these anecdotes floating around with no way to verify what's being said (everything from "i was banned for no reason" to "this game won't run for me") or to vet the possible causes of.

Would be great if I could actually log in. For some god awful reason this game doesn't work on college dorm connections.

    That's.. not the game.
That's your college keeping some ports locked down so that (probably deliberately) people aren't easily able to play games or stream, etc. etc.
Why are you blaming the game for something that's so obviously on the user end?

I agree with most of this, but not these:

    7. This does need to be addressed, but not in a way that will make the Vampire/Werewolf bites less exclusive. All players should be able to get the diseases without player interaction, though it should not be easy, and player interaction is an important aspect of the disease (in my opinion) - charging in-game currency for bites (I think) is a perfectly acceptable practice. Monopolizing on it, however, is another story.

    8. I like the guild store. Needs to be cleaned up... A LOT. But other than that, it adds an interesting layer of depth to the in-game economy. No reason we should have explicit access to every item in our faction via an auction house, and no reason we should have to hope we'll see what we want or sell what we need to in the zone chat (or even a "trade chat" - which should probably be implemented either way). The guild store system is a nice middle ground.

    9. Inventory management is fine. Think about what you need to keep and what you do not. Don't expect to hoard every single crafting item you find for every single profession level 1-V10. Try perhaps keeping only the tier of materials that you are currently using. Leveling professions is remarkably easy (except, maybe enchanting), crafted items become irrelevant once you out-level them by any decent amount, and you do not need, in any way, to save all of those items. I have 120 slots in my bank, and about 130 slots in my inventory. It was not too expensive to get there, and I never have any issues whatsoever with space. I work on two professions actively, have mats of all levels for two more professions, save gear for later, have three sets of weapons and two sets of armor, and carry (at a minimum) two food items, three potion types, lockpicks, and two tiers of soul gems. I am usually able to complete hours of questing and gathering before returning to the bank and vendors, and never stress for more space.

    10. Buff and debuff tracking is not a requirement. As with the store, the current system adds depth. Sure, sometimes you will be guessing as to what is going on with buffs, debuffs, and party resources. But I think that's an exciting element of gameplay. It facilitates group communication and coordination in PvP and PvE, and makes the learning experience more of an actual learning experience in PvE. I have completed all of the V1-5 dungeons as a VR1 in level 45-50 gear without any great difficulty. It certainly doesn't make the game "impossible", or any less fun. Quite the contrary, my groups were exceptionally satisfied when killing a boss after learning debuff mechanics completely on our own, and communicating with each other about resource management. Perhaps the next tier of dungeons will provide more of a challenge. But I am confident that we will happily face that challenge without all the UI trappings of other MMORPGs - and overcome them.
Side note: I would like to see party damage access in the API again. It can be hard to find ways to overcome DPS checks when you can't be sure which party members need work, and in what ways. Online games are social games, and I like to work with less skilled players to improve their game and overcome challenges. Not being able to see what they are (potentially) doing wrong with their build or "rotations" makes this a feat of agonizing deliberation.

All that said, these are just my opinions - and if the majority does in fact want to see changes like these, by all means please do. I want the game to do well, as an Elderscrolls fan, as an MMORPG fan, and as a person who has found it to be (all bugs, lost progress and wasted time aside) incredibly enjoyable in almost every way. Part of that success, I think though, is to not compromise the game on too many levels. Part of the beauty of TESO, for me, is the ways that it differs (painfully) from other mainstream MMORPGs, and forces you to challenge yourself and the game systems to progress (at times).

Regardless, I firmly stand behind 1-6: and those should probably be addressed before anything is even thought about in terms of additions or changes.

Interesting thought, but my understanding is that the Add-Ons themselves are not addressed by the launcher or patching process, and that's why they are kept in their own separate directory.

Can anyone confirm that it is possible for an Add-on to mess up the Launcher? Seems like that should not be possible given the add-on architecture in the game.

I have seen add-on errors in game that are usually related to staying current, but the launcher?

This is the first semi-negative post I agree with. The only thing I would add is David Letterman standing in every major city doing a top ten list like this everyday. LOL

It wasn't intended to be in any way negative, but yes, I suppose it is essentially a list of things many are dis-satisified with. However the hope is to keep them focused on the top issues, and eventually get more people happy so the game survives. =)

i Endorse issue #11!! that banker was soo annoying!! also the crafter area in the stormhaven city that annoucer was annoying as well. i started going back to daggerfall city to do my crafting cause i got tired of hearing "hear ye hear ye" while crafting things.

would be great to be able to enable or disable certain NPC voice's such as bankers and crafters since you talk to them alot and they ALWAY SAY THE SAME THING.
  • george.smithb16_ESO
LOL I have yet to find anyone who doesn't hate that banker!

I agree with that post with all my heart, fortunatley there are easy fixes for some of them:

    9. Addon called InventoryGridView. Perfectly solves most problems. PAir with Inventory Item Borders for optimal, amazing effect. One click switch to the old layout and back, no ui reload needed. I also use Dustman to auto-sell vendor trash.

    10. Foundry Tactical Combat. Must have. Bufffs, debuffs, bars... brilliant.

    and then...

    11. "Have you ever heard the saying, neither a borrower or a lender be"

KILL HER WITH AN ASTEROID - that's the REASON I don't play Daggerfall Covenant. Most annoying npc ever created. Ever. The guy that talks about the dog near smithy is another one. Make them SHUT UP. I seriously want to see her murdered instead of that random guy that starts Daggerfal questline. Screw gold spammers, fix that first ;)

The falling thing isn't game breaking but some people are prone to it.

Actually, to address the farming they have unleashed autoban software that is mistakenly banning people who fall through the world. With ZOS's lack of CS ability, it's causing lots of players to have banned accounts with zero communication except, Fill out a ticket and wait. When you are banning innocent players without telling them what's going on, I'd consider that game breaking.

It's like ZOS read a manual entitled How to Alienate Customers and Drive Them Away Forever.

I too came into the thread read to tear the OP a new one for electing himself speaker of the community. However, this is a great list and some I have already sent feedback on.

Only comment is 6 -Inventory Management. It doesn't bother me that much I got my way of dealing with it. The OP did say something very good though and that is the sharing of gold between toon's and being able to see other toon's backpack inventory while in the bank.

Agreed on all of this. My main gripe is with inventory management. Material bags or something to sort out the really extensive crafting requirements (looking at you, enchantment and alchemy) would go a large way towards relieving some of the strain on bag space, if nothing else is done.

Please add new voiceover options to allow the disabling and/or lowering of volume specific to BANKERS and GENERAL AREA NPC COMMENTS. It was really nice of them to tell us their little stories, and even sing our praises, but now we just want to rip out their vocal chords and boil them in oil.

I'm sorry. Fessing up to what?

ZOS practically forces some players to use addons, because they refuse to add the simplest tools to the game as options.

This is the LAZY ZOS plan.
