Blade of Woe doesn't work on the sleeping npc.

Can we have a fix for Blade of Woe for npc's who are sleeping? The option is to smack them with your weapon to wake them up and running away while hoping they'll stay awake so you can sneak back and kill them (and then facing the guards for a hefty fine), or come back later hoping the npc will be awake. It would be so much easier if we could hit them while they're laying down!

We can't pick pocket most them either. When I try I get the prompt for stealing, go through the motions but get no loot. There are only two sleeping NPCs whom I remember being able to steal from - one in Stormhold by the side of a house near the wayshrine, and an outlaw right after you enter the Middens (this one can be killed with the blade of woe).

Sleeping NPC are almost always «aware», so you can't steal or kill them as long they have both that status and that eye isn't closing completely. NPC that stand up do not have the same status even when they can be aware or your eye is still open.

It wasn't always like this, so it's actually a bug (which I forgot to report, so I'm grateful for this thread).

It changed with Elsweyr update (or one patch earlier before Elsweyr, I don't remember exact month when I started noticing it) :/

Same NPCs which I used to pickpocket (and then use Blade of Woe) became immune to it. Also some not sleeping NPCs became glitched as well. For example, I used to be able to perform those actions on two dancing drunkards at Hardran's - after update, when I'm hidden and press "E" to pickpocket on any of those two, it opens dialogue prompt instead :o

Pretty sure it depends on which one and possibly the angle at which you can approach. Some you can, some you can't.
Same as with some NPCs who are actually standing. You can be behind and almost touching them but if the game decides it can't find the proper angle (usually elevation related) you can't blade of woe them. Or the prompt appears but the animation is aborted.

Like I said, when I try I do get the prompts (closed eye, the sound that announces I got the best chance - for both stealing and blade of woe - and the green number showing the percentage of success at that pick pocket - usually 100% in green). Even with that I get no loot, even though my char goes through the right movements and I don't get a bounty after doing it.

Now that you mentioned this, there is an NPC in Eastmarch, a female, drunkard, standing on top of a crate, that gives me all the prompts when I crouch and then gives me a dialogue prompt when I try to pick pocket her.

I'm tempted to say this was happening before Elsweyr dropped, but I can't remember for sure.

When I don't get either prompt (blade or pick), I readjust my char. Again, that is not the problem. The problem is that I do get the prompts and get no loot/can't kill.

There are a few NPCs who have annoying movement paths and that allow us to try and pick/kill but they move at the last second leaving our chars facing them, but that is not the case with the sleeping NPCs.

Which platform are you on? Because I just tried this on a sleeping NPC who I target regularly with Blade of Woe (with multiple characters), and it worked. My point being, if it is a bug, it's not one that affects every player.
    I'm on PC.

You just need to determine which side of sleeping NPC is the "rear". It works.

This is silly. You aren't aware when you're asleep.

I don't have dignity when I sleep either, for the record. I snore.
