Only 12 people get loot, even when others contribute to the fight.

Should be obvious? No explanation needed, for several days we've been farming Molag Bal in sewers and the group has never been under 12, which means some people never get loot.

If a full raid of players kills a boss only the top 12 contributors will get loot. The other 12 will get nothing.

This is only a problem during events when huge groups blob around doing the objectives. I’m willing to bet that OP has been in Molag Bal farming groups and isn’t getting drops.

I agree. Normally I would be pro giving spoils of war only to the best. But in IC the best people at dps are those glasscannon pve builds who need protection from PvPers. And what do I get for protecting a whole group of PvErs against gankers and bombers? What do I get for resurrecting half the group after they got themselves killed? Nothing. I get nothing. Even though I contribute to the success of our group.

Yeah, and i go in there with my healer, but i do as much damage as i can and it still won't work. I use soul trap, sweep, radiant destruction, nothing helps. So im just gonna buy that skin with tickets, i'll have 10 tomorrow so it's fine really.

I'm a PvE'er, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that the top healers also shared in drops. Or is this a thing only in PvE and not PvP? I don't know about resurrections, but at least in PvE, healing contributes to your chance of getting drops like doing damage does.

My bet is that zos is planning to implement a fix to this in 2024, check back in five years and it may even have been implemented!

I've never understood this either. I could understand them doing it like other games do where each person has to do a minimum amount of damage (or healing) to get credit, so you can't fire off one light attack and then go afk until the fight is over. But I don't understand why they'd restrict it to just 12 people, especially for open-world content where any number of people could show up and want to participate.

It was especially frustrating for me during one of the previous events (Witch's Festival possibly) where you had to kill world bosses for tickets. I thought it would be a good way to get my tank some extra XP, but it meant if 12 other people showed up I could forget about getting anything from the boss, even if I'd been there from the start and the 12th person showed up 1/2 way through the fight, because almost anyone could out-damage me.

I ended up camping a really out of the way boss because it was the only way to ensure I'd get credit.

Should be changed. It's all wrong:
    - The players with the weakest characters get less loot, although they need more to equalize things.
    - Players that focus on fighting off attackers get nothing.
    - Players that tank or contribute in other ways also get nothing.

So, only the characters with overgeared glasscannon DPS builds get loot. Stupid thing.

I just was with a Molag Bal group, where lots of people left once they realized they don't get loot and in effect only help the DPS heavy members of the group (like me in that instance). That kind of thing not only drives people away from content, but also from the game as a whole.

Not really. World bosses and dolmens are working this way too. Only the top 12 dps players get loot, so if you are a tank or a healer, you are screwed.

Previous year, I got the skin from Molag, but I wanted to stay and help my allies to get their loot. So I didn't damage the boss at all, only healed my allies - and I still got loot each time. People around were complaining that they don't get loot (there were more than 12 players around), so I decided to leave the place not to "steal" anyone elses' chance for loot :/

This game has some weird and antisocial design regarding loot and experience from kills.

In past events, you aren't the only support players who's gotten loot despite there being more than 12 players and not being one of the top 12 DPS. Healers have gotten loot from Molag Bal in large groups in the past as well.

    Its just rarer.

I'm a pve'er, too, and always thought this was the case... at least it has always seemed that way to me. Not that I'm any kind of a superior healer, but there have been times that I have just passed by an open world boss, noticed that people were about to die, so I literally did nothing but stop and heal for a few minutes to be friendly and still received loot. But it has not appeared to me to be the case in IC; on a couple of occcasions, there were only 3-4 dpsers + me just healing (not intentionally, just because I was slow on the draw), so nowhere near 12 people in the fight, and I still didn't receive loot or tickets.

It's a hangover from the old days when all bosses worked like this. As I was explaining to people in my groups. The top 12 DPS and top 12 healers all get loot. So if you're doing crap DPS, pick up a basic resto staff and spam mutagen on people. As long as you get one attack on the boss, keep spamming those basic heals and you'll get loot. This is what we used to do as "lowbies" in Craglorn back in the day when we couldn't possibly compete in terms of DPS.

The trouble is, people don't -want- to slot a resto staff and spam heals. They'd rather just try (and fail) to DPS and then *** and whine endlessly about not getting loot. It's extremely annoying.

It's really quite simple. If you could show up with a 100+ players, pretty much everything would become trivial.

By limiting the number of players who get loot Zos discourages players from doing that and ensures that the content stays appropriately difficult.

This has been in the game for a while. It is really only a problem when Events are happening and there are mobs of players around the ... mobs. That means that low-output players, typically new players that are not able to burst 50k to 100k DPS on a boss, get bupkiss.

Personally, I think it sends the wrong message to new players. Come play this event... oh, sorry, nothing for you because you are new and all the experienced players got to it first.

Outside of that, they need a cap of some sort for zergs like the ones that run in the deserts taking down Dark Anchors in this game.

The last official change regarding loot was during the One Tamriel update.

You must deal at least 3% damage to receive loot/exp. No patch note ever mentioned a 12 player limit, so I'm not sure if that hard limit really exists. More likely that with more than 12 players, some non-DD players are below the 3% threshold.

Well then Zenimax, considering this event this does not function as intended.
