Well, cya next year I guess lol.
Performance has been bad since morrowind which was 2 years ago and ! now ! they decided to think about performance improvements (that memory management one doesnt count) which will roll out 2020 Q1, yeah sorry but thats a bit too late for my liking.

Sure only thing optimized will be the crown crates. Have seen many promises with little results.

Well, now that they have said more than "it is high priority for us" and released a timeline, we will start to see the fruits of all this.

    They have lied before.

So this is why they don’t talk to us. When they actually say something it’s all “yeah right I’ll believe it when I see it”
Or “did you pay people to be there”

This is why reasonable requests can’t get in, because of all the negativity. Have they earned your disbelief? Maybe they have. Things change, companies change. How about trying to be optimistic as a radical idea. Until they start dodging responsibility on collapsing sweat shops maybe we could vilify zos less?

If I get accused of whiteknighting with my record if complaints I swear to Azura....

I think they have earned this attitude. I'm sure you remember what Gina told us about improving the communication last November... they didn't improve too much till now. Maybe we will see more on that front too.

There aren’t many humans who are motivated to talk to strangers, let alone strangers who are definitely going to be hecklers. The very nature of customer service is insatiability.

For me, “looks like they heard about the problems, let’s see their solutions, I hope it doesn’t take too long” is not negative.
Outright calling them liars and jokers is the negativity,

Yes, pretty much. Such talk is usually driven by frustration, not fact. ZOS has not really been forthcoming with details, up to this point. The generic "we will have something for you Soon™" only goes so far with some people, even if it is the truth.

This looks very much like a road map at least for how to improve performance and in long term also make combat work better which might cause trouble in short term for how abilities will work (according to video highest priority for combat abilities will be to reduce stress on server and client; meaning "balance" will need to take step back at this moment).

It also shows that community have at least success in get the message through that this isn't acceptable and client/serve need to get new codes to work better. What I didn't hear in this presentation where how will this impact add ons for PC users?

To explain (or the way it where explained from those person in video) why a total download of client will need to be done is because a lot of compressed files need to be changed with another achieve (compressed files). This is probably due to prevent tampering with in game content on client side where compression technology need to change to be able to handle larger files (original game engine is rather old) and resources that are connected to this.

The good news with this is that if everything are going well, that this should also cut down loading time from loadscreens and future way of patching files.

We as community where promised that ESO would keep us updated in at least on a monthly fashion. With as large scale of changes this will also be necessary both to keep the most negative impact from how game will change depending combat abilities that now need to be reworked, cue system (LFG - Activity Finder) that might not work the first couple of month depending on re-write of code and people that will be upset about those changes will this is in process.

From community point of view it looks those posts asking about a change from content to performance and related bugs finally make an impact : Zenimax now direct their attention to fix problems instead of pushing out new content in form of DLCs or Chapter. This is really good change!

Can't tell how many times I have now killed something just to realise that I can't loot that body with going through every tricks posted here on forum to be able to get that loot and then AoEs that are wonky etc.

Just how long time it takes from confirming password until I actually can play my character is also a big issue as it also reduce the time I can spend on another character, not to mention when one want to at least do dailies for one zone, put oneself in cue to with Activity Finder to do Pledges and run one or two random dungeons that even with all spare time in the world can take too much time before I need to go to sleep. When most time is being in cue for something or you don't get to finish what you set up to do before timer reset for dailies (that includes Pledges, Daily Writs and all other activities that a set on a timer), it gets really frustrating.

I am really happy that ZeniMax at least made this news the main point in Quakecom presentation as more bugs or ignoring those issues would have made me leave this game.

I am glad I got to see that stream. I learned a lot about the development and hearing about all the changes that were made even before console release blew me away. When I heard the part about performance the previous part of the stream made me realize there is a lot going on that I'll never be aware of.

Did they elaborate on what 'Account database "cold storage"' means?

I can imagine a few possibilities based on the name, but it would be nice to know what it actually is.

I suspect that old and unused accounts are cluttering up the database, potentially impacting the database performance. They are probably going to archive older accounts in a way that will get them out of the active database, yet allow a way to recover them in the player wants to resume playing.

Firor said they get players that just show up for the Chapters, play through them, and then resume life. That tells me that it will be really old accounts, like more than a couple years since they were last used.

This is really interesting to me, because cold (offline) storage in the database realm is easier said than done. Once you take things off-line, there has to be a way to re-integrate them. Even across upgrades and changes to the database. Lots of moving parts, and automation to ensure that when data is taken out of cold storage, everything lines up again when it's put back. Sounds simple, but the real world is harder than that.

Depending on how deep they go with this, it could be the baby steps toward some real enhancements to the database that the game relies on.

No, I'm not going to speculate on whether or not that means some long-asked-for features are closer to reality, because that's still way off in the realm of wild guesses. But anything that improves the stability and flexibility of the database is good for the game.

Most fixes seem to aggressively target the low end (consoles and low spec PCs), too, which is great. The results will cascade up, obviously, to people with more powerful systems (X1X, Pro, Gaming PCs).

    It was an informative panel.

So hard to tell if they are going to improve performance, or if it's just time to say how they'd like to improve performance again. There was a promise of better communication about a year ago that never panned out even a little bit, so I'll maintain scepticism.

Sure only thing optimized will be the crown crates. Have seen many promises with little results.

Well, now that they have said more than "it is high priority for us" and released a timeline, we will start to see the fruits of all this.

    They have lied before.

There’s a third option. They didn’t lie, they just failed.

But that could be communicated too.

"We are trying to improve the performance with the next update". Next update, not much changes. "Sorry guys, it seems our planned solution doesn't have the effect we aimed for. Right now we are analyzing the live data and after we finished that, we will plan a new method to improve performance."

Yes, some people would translate it to "ZOS is incompetent", and after the 4th of 5th attempt it's reasonable, except if ZOS would tell the whole story why they failed (of course there should be parts they couldn't tell). But not even acknowledge the problems until they are so blatant that they can't be swept under the rug... well, it's not good PR.

They did say (on the panel) that they would provide regular updates even if those updates were of the mea culpa, “we’re not there yet” variety. I believe Jessica said “monthly”, but don’t quote me on that—I’d have to watch the stream again.

It is nice that ZOS is starting to provide some game direction and letting the player base know the areas they are working on. Having been in the business I understand time frames could shift if higher priority issues come up but at least we have a roadmap to show the order we can expect to see the changes arrive in. I am also looking forward to seeing the full explanations ZOS told us we would see next week on the website. I'm hopeful this is the beginning of better communications Gina said were in the works at the beginning of the year.
