seperate mount gear?

(Sorry if this is a duplicate - I saw only one thread for something similar to this from early last year.)

But I find myself really liking the idea of collecting all the plain horses I can, because they just thematically fit with some characters better. But then I feel a little sad because I can't upgrade (e)their appearance (/e) at all.

It would be neat if gear was made to be separate from mounts, so you could switch gear out. Obviously zeni would put a bunch of fancy gear in loot crates in addition to new mounts, but there could be in game achievements for alliance themed mount liveries.

And then maybe for a few achievements maybe get some subtle effects like glowing hooves, or some mane/tail designs (if possible). Nothing too fancy, just enough to make people feel like they have a way of telling everyone in the game what they've achieved, and make the base horse feel a bit more fun.

For people that got a special mount that was just a horse with fancy looking armor, that armor would be transferrable to other mounts, like say, a psijic horse if they have one. And of course some or all of the gear would be dyeable.

What do you all think?

I would also love all these customizations :)
Most of all I want to have possibility to share different armor between mounts (and dye it too). For example, I like armor on Indigo Senche, and I would absolutely love to have same armor on other senche mounts :'(

Should I remind you how well the whole "Horse Armor" thing went last time it was implented in a TES game?

At some point Bethesda and Steam tried to bring paid mods for Skyrim to Steam Workshop. One of the most notable memes that arised from that attempt was selling horse armor for 20$ or so. People went absolutely nuts about the whole thing and that program was swiftly scrapped.

So I'm pretty sure that we will not be seeing horse armor in a TES game for a long time. ZOS will not add them for free. And making people pay for it will only open some old wounds.

Horse armor predates Skyrim. It was one of the first DLCs added to Oblivion.

I feel like if they are already getting away with selling a $30 mount, then they can sell $20 gear that can be dyed and transferred to other mounts.

And they will give some stuff away for free, just enough to make people want more from a subscription or the crown store.

Like, I can see them adding the free stuff to the dlc content to get more people to buy it or subscribe. They'll give away free stuff in the base game but it will all be kind of ratty and sad looking, just like most of the base armor.

More options is good I suppose but the main thing I'd like to see when it comes to tack is a rework of all the basic horse saddlebags from ripped off dumpy backpack to actual saddlebags. Should be easy as some of the newer horses have nice looking saddlebags.

As a long-time horsewoman, I refuse to show those awful lumps of saddlebags on my horses. The ones on some mounts aren't so bad, don't know why they couldn't have actually LOOKED at normal leather saddlebags and then copied them pretty closely. Even stuffed with gear, our bags laid close to the horses' flanks....

In fairness, the rhetorical question was, "the last time," and Skyrim is more recent than Oblivion.

    Well now I'm depressed. Thanks.

That's actually an impressive come back and I'm mad at myself for not coming up wiht it. But I have to give it to driosketch, I wasn't entirely aware about the whole Oblivion thing. The "young ones" and all that. But I definitely remember how bad those paid mods played out in Skyrim.

I guess nothing will save us here since people are way too happy to spend 100-150$ on a house already... But I think that if ZOS were to sell players a 30$ mount and put an extra 20$ on top for the armor it wouldn't really go well with the community. At least I can hope, huh?

On the opposite side, I wasn't aware of the Skyrim horse armor, though I was aware about the paid mod debacle.

Also, Oblivion caught flak for paid DLC that was around $2, eary micro transaction. Can you imagine? Look where we are now.
