How the HELL do you justify taking the game down for maintenance at 10PM on a Friday night for us?
I just can't describe how disappointed I am in you right now Zenimax. I would've thought you'd actually look after your customers and actually allow them to have a decent play session on a Friday night.
This NEEDS to be addressed and I can't see the oceanic population backing down on this one guy's. Seriously... Get it together before you lose a whole bunch of subscribers... Really pathetic...
The only thing that needs to be addressed is that people like you can't comprehend that this is a brand new mmo, honestly they should bring the servers down a lot more to fix the issues that they have, and most mmos would do just that regardless of what day or time it happens to be.
If there is a problem it should be fixed, they're going slowly enough with fixes because people like you complain so much, go back to your xbox if you can't handle down time, it's the nature of the beast when it comes to mmos.Brave New World.1 -

Have you not seen these forums? We don't support the person right next to us, why on earth do you think we would support a region for which a lot of us don't even know?
Now I would agree that region based servers should actually be within that region.
However I do not agree that the window should be changed. I actually think its a good time, as it would mean a fresh server restart right before the weekend for the primary server audience.
Don't think of this as an anti-oceanic perspective, but I prefer the idea that servers for NA have schedules based on NA times.
If ZOS can show the data that says definitively that this period is the best time to conduct critical server maintenance that will inconvenience the least amount of players right before a heavy peak period (i.e. the weekend), then I think that many players in the Australasian timezones will gladly simmer down and simply find ways to deal with not being able to play.
However, I don't think that the server population data used to determine the best maintenance times can ever support the position that a Friday night anywhere on the planet has the least amount of people on a game server.

This downtime on the NA server is during European offpeak. The Europeans have their own server which gets its own maintenance during their own offpeak. If they held this maintenance 4, or even 5 hours later, it would avoid screwing over both the Oceanic and North American regions, who have no choice but to play on NA servers.
It just seems to me that this clearly wasn't thought through, as it still looks to benefit European players more than it does those who actually play on the NA servers. For those of us around the GMT+8 and GMT+9 mark (Perth, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, etc) this maintenance is set to cover the entirety of our peak time. You've just chopped out a whole region of the world who doesn't otherwise get reasonable access to the game. GG.3 -

The timing is unfortunate for the Oceanic people, though this is reminiscent of the EU people complaining about maintenance during their prime time. No maintenance does not have to be on anyone's primetime - primetime being Friday night - they just need to shift maintenance to another day.0 -

Actually, we do have to memorise the time zones!
The reason being that basically all MMOs are based in the US so we often have to calculate when particular events are on in relation to our time frame and adjust depending on where the site is in the US.
Something that the US players don't have to do as they tend to be the centre of the MMO server universe.
That's why there is frustration from us lowly players in the sunny Pacific. It is a common (and often frustrating) part of gaming life, and each time it occurs it can stir emotions on forums when those in the universe's centre appear to treat this frustration with indifference and, sometimes, with a sense of arrogance.
But, anyway, the server is back up, so let's head back to the land of Tamriel and do what we love to do!

If you're on the EU servers, it would only be between 1pm to 3pm in Australia...

8AM EDT is perfect for that target as it gives a restart to the servers before the weekend rush for that player base. Setting the maintenance earlier by 6 hours (2am EDT) could be ok in my opinion, but any later and your in the daytime of the primary audience (Not a good idea, in my opinion)

Threats to leave are far too common, and in most civilized societies, you do not give in to fear tactics since it only promote more.
Instead, why not speak to 20 of your friends and get them to play. Then have them speak to 20 of their friends to get them to play. Once the Oceanic player base is the 10-15% area, I would not be surprised if ZOS set up a Oceanic megaserver. Threats will get you nothing, where as bringing in a large consumer base will get you what your after.
