Maintenance for the week of April 6:
• ESO Store and Account System for maintenance – April 8, 9:00AM EDT (13:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EDT (22:00 UTC)
We are currently investigating connection issues some players are having on the European megaservers. We will update as new information becomes available.

How can you justify this? Maintenance on a FRIDAY NIGHT?

You guys keep referring to "Most MMOs" well most MMOs when they launched had buggy quests, crashing, random down times. Sometimes for a month or two.

When the game becomes more stable they won't need to ever do maintenance friday-sunday unless something really wrong occurs, kind of like how there are multiple game breaking bugs at end game, and have been there for almost a week.

I would prefer they take the servers down until they can fix the quests
although I am probably a minority in that aspect.

So you're suggesting that now we've all started playing on NA, we should move to EU, only to be screwed again when it moves to the EU Datacentre?

As an aussie I'm completely used to server maintenance of MMO's being during our evenings - I have no problem with that, we have to expect it and have gotten used to it.

The issue here is that the 'day' they have chosen for their scheduled maintenance. It should never be on a Friday. I'm sure there would be no complaints from the bulk of the aussies if the maintenance slots were on any day from Monday through to Thursday.

    As an Oceanic player:

EU servers have MUCH high latency than the NA servers. (try 400ms, and thank our fuckwit prime minister for canning our high speed NBN system).

We're not saying prioritise us over NA players, because obviously, there exists time slots of low play time that correspond to both regions.
Eg. Delaying this maintenance by 2-4 hours would go past Friday night peak game time for Oceanic players, while still being early enough in the day to not affect the majority of NA players (10am-midday).

Or, even better! Holding maintenance on a day THAT'S NOT FRIDAY!

Yes, I know most people like to go out and party on Friday nights, myself included. However doing this on a weekly basis isn't always financially viable.

I'm sure there are polls that may suggest otherwise, but so far as I'm concerned, optimal maintenance times would be Monday and Thursday 11am PST. That way, we affect the least number of players from both regions, on days of minimal play.

@Shanna Most people on the east coast are already at work(those that have jobs), the CST players are just waking up, and the MST/PST people are asleep....majority of the servers population are not playing if they shut the servers down at 7-8AM EST.

While I'm not particularly concerned about the downtime - I think all those that haven't had more than a decade of this kind of treatment in online gaming really don't know what they're talking about.

Certain countries are so accustomed to 'entitlements' it would be amusing to see said countries in a similar predicament as to what's going on here.

I would imagine the whining would be an almost galactic event.

It's procedures like this that further bolster my opinion that MMOs in general are nothing compared to what they achieved 10 years ago with a fraction of budget the and the technology... but that's a different forum post.

When there's only 2 giant servers to work with, somebody is always going to get screwed where maintenance is concerned. Right now in the States it's early morning. Had they moved it to the time when Oceanic could play, they would have screwed everybody in the states out of a Thursday evening. Then you would have seen somebody else posting this angry thread.

Wouldn't doing it in the middle of the night, rather than early morning EDT, help everyone out? Sounds like it would bump Oceanic to Friday afternoon, at least. Do they really need to accommodate east coast state players who stay up all night on a Thursday?

I wish.. hell I think half the Oceanic players in this thread would love to see something like that.. but in reality? Never going to happen.

Been requested so many times in other various titles but they do treat us as if we are second class citizens or something..

You have to download the EU client, yes. But it can be played on while the NA server is down.

Why not play on the EU server if this is such a huge issue for you?

6am CEST is 12pm EST, meaning you would be in bed when it underwent maintenance. In every game, even those WITH Oceanic servers, there is always this 'outrage' because the NA server was taken offline at an 'inconvenient' time. I typically play a lot late night, early morning... so I lose play time too, oh well. But, hey, EU server is up... go have fun on it. :P
The EU server has horrible latency for Oceanics. We'll never play on the EU server, ever.

US people don't have issues playing on the EU server because you lot are closer to it. Distance is what makes pings high, nothing can be done about distance.

Actually, the EU server is housed in the US right now, just like the US server.
Already answered this in another post - this is not always going to be the case, that server is being moved to the EU. Will maintenance be moved to accommodate Oceanics at same time?

    You basically do.

To play both servers I believe that you have to have the game installed twice. You can't just flick the launcher between either server.

My point is that the EU server WILL be too laggy to use as an alternative server for any Oceanic player to play on while our actual server (US server) is down on our Friday night prime time for maintenance. The EU server will be moved to the EU, and this is the latency I am referring to.

Point being the EU server will be 100% useless to us.

I stopped reading this thread because of all the back and forth crying about minorities and the such. These maintenance times do not affect me in the least, but I will say, it is quite odd to have them on Tuesdays and Fridays. Most people have Fridays off over a Monday, and most people play sick at work on Fridays as well. The Monday/Thursday option would have been the ideal times for maintenance.

Also, where did ZOE get their polling from? I was never asked what time was best for me, did you guys? I seriously doubt that WE told them Friday was a good day for maintenance.

Well if it stays on friday night permanently for Aussies i see no real reason to Subscribe after my time is up, sitting in maintenance's in our primes time every week after paying the same amount as US players and not being able to use the product means i wont pay for the product..

Seems fair to me, its not worth paying for nothing.

I'm not fighting you, or anyone else for that matter.. Simple fact of the matter is it's not worth it... Whether it's lag now or lag later it's still a total waste of time downloading a second client only for it to be unplayable at an undisclosed time/date.

It doesn't matter when they do maintenance. There will always be someone who is inconvenienced by whatever maintenance schedule they come up with. There will always be players who complain about the down time for maintenance. For example, WoW has had maintenance on Tuesdays since the game started way back in 2004 and to this day people complain about their maintenance schedule.

Pretty sure this is scheduled because it's probably their lowest activity during the particular day.

Some people will always get screwed. That's just how it is. This has nothing to do of when it's the best time for you. They schedule (or try, anyway. Leniency is given in the first month-two months due to major issues that need to be addressed) their maintenance based around the lowest server activity (Such as the lowest amount of people that are usually on at a particular time.)

It sucks, but tough. There's nothing you can do about it. Unfortunately, the minorities/alternative scheduled peoples that usually play around the time of maintenance only have the option to just deal with it.

    Well I would hope that
A game made and developed in Australia, with servers in Australia would be maintained on a schedule that a human being living in Australia would be able function properly on.

You are asking for a group of people to abide by your time zone in another country to preform a task that doesn't even effect the majority of the people playing the game.

While they still gave us a notice that the servers would be going down tonight for maintenance, it is still an unscheduled maintenance. Its just that people complained about them not telling everyone hours ahead of time that they would be bringing the servers down for emergency maintenance,
and now that they are we have people complaining thinking that regular maintenance happens on fridays..

Use some common sense. This is a business, but the business is run by people with families that like to see them during the day.

Instead of attacking each other over who is more "entitled" to a priority in consideration, why not talk about potential solutions?

The Friday maintenance time is obviously the issue. Why not move it 2-3 hours? Say, Friday @11am EDT/12pm EDT? If 8am EDT is 10pm Oceanic time, then 11am/12pm for us would be 1am/2am Friday Night/Saturday Morning for the Oceanic players. Would that be an acceptable compromise? Most players here in NA would be at work on a Friday at 11am/12pm EDT, so it would not negatively effect the majority of NA players, and it would allow our Oceanic fellow-gamers to have their Friday nights of gaming. Seems like a win-win compromise to me.
