What does cp have to do with skill?

There are plenty of max cp players who are utter garbage at pvp

Bg is non cp anyways, doesnt matter

Cyrodiil, most people zerg surf anyways

Not gonna lie most of the high cp players have a 2 button rotation, the healers are bol spammer and having the movement ability of a new born. Saw way more good low cp player than actual high cp gamer.

When I see 810 I think there’s more room for error but it doesn’t mean anything beyond that. They could easily suck more than someone who is an average player on a low CP toon.

    .. In your team - BGs/Dungeon/cyrodiil.
Do you automaticly think they are gods and thats why your team is going to win?

Or.. do you not care how much cp they have, because..?

Just curious, this is a question both for new and old players :)

Ps. How do you feel about addons showing your total cp to others?

This is coming from someone who is CP 500

    In dungeons:

Gives me full confidence that we will have no issues in the dungeon that we are running. If we complete the dungeon, there is no surprise to me. If we FAIL the dungeon (assuming it wasn't my fault) I am absolutely shocked

    In BGs:

This one is tricky...I have seen some absolute beasts out there fighting alongside of me. I have also seen some 810's that are soft as baby ***. It usually means they are more experienced but there are some 810's that don't PVP and just do the random daily (which is absolutely fine).

I play on console so no addons and I also stay away from Cyrodil.

High CP usually increases the chance that the player has an idea of playing their class.
I found insanely high CP (2000+)to be a bad sign tho. Everyone with that number I have seen so far has been just horrible in pvp

I really only get nervous when I see CP 100 NBs with a bow....99% of the time they're utterly useless to the team.

For me it’s just getting a NB in general cause nearly all of them just sit in stealth and bait their teammates. I almost never see useful ones in BGs regardless of CP.

I don't look at cp, it doesn't really mean anything to me. I mostly look at class/weapons and what they do. If it's a EP dragonknight with 2h weapon, I know it's a new player, for example...straight outta Skyrim.

Recently started on PC after playing on console since console launch. I'm CP175 now, but last week lvl 45 running veteran fg1... Had a whisper "must be nice having all that hidden CP". Uhm, no, just someone who understands the game, their chosen class and is familiar with the content.

Neither CP nor gear are indicators of ability. Make no assumptions.

People's erroneous assumptions like that can be quite entertaining. I was recently tanking normal Darkshade Caverns II on a few tank alts as it's the last non-DLC Dungeon quests they need to pick up. My first pug group was all max CP, like myself, except for one at about 680... should have been a great team, right? Everyone else died to the very first boss (The Fallen Foreman) when he did his flame jet attack (one died to the adds well before that). I suggested everyone double check their skill bars, specifying they'll need to add shields and/or self-heals to have a chance at the final boss. One of them replied something like "wishing they all were playing easy mode DK tanks as well." This mouthy light attack bow spammer who had queued as Healer obviously missed the many Shadow and Siphoning skills I'd been using to have mistaken me for a DK. :disappointed: After the next pull being just as dismal, I dropped group despite them all being high level as it was obvious they had no chance of surviving more than a few seconds of the final boss fight.

I requeued (in a different region) as soon as my timer was up and my new group was composed of 2 level 40 players and one 120. Despite the low CP, group dps was fantastic and they were great about working together. Ended up being a super good run.

I'll reiterate... make no assumptions. CP is not a great indicator of ability.

I'm curious if anyone else has run into a particular type of high CP player:
    • They never attack. Not even basic light attacks. They just stand nearby and that's it, just stand.
    • When the group advances, they do as well, but then back to the standing around. Sometimes they follow the party with a delay.
    • They seem to always have staves.
    • They're usually max CP.
    • They usually are queued as Healer, but I've often seen them with the Damage role instead.
    • I've only seen this in Normal dungeons.
    • If you call them out for not contributing, they'll usually reply with a belated "Sorry" but usually don't otherwise change their behavior.

I run into this type of player while pugging far too often. I'm thinking they are either just pure moochers with no problems forcing others to carry them or possibly alt accounts of other players in the group being played simultaneously. The fact that I've never gotten a group to successfully vote kick one makes me think it's the latter. If the group is still completing the dungeon swiftly with only 3 contributing players (like I know it'll finish quicker than the 15 minute lockout timer) I'll overlook it, but if it feels like a slog, I'll immediately drop group instead of helping carry the moocher.

I've seen one extreme case where it was quite obvious which player was playing two characters at once as only one would ever advance/attack at a time making it clear when they were swapping between two adjacent PCs.

I make no assumptions about the skills of a high CP player. Anywhere. PvE or PvP.

I will admit to being overly cautious when I see very low CP players in a DLC dungeon. I don't auto-kick or anything like that, but I am more careful with how I heal and how much attention I pay to health bars.

I will say that I probably do make some assumptions about basic knowledge of dungeons, especially older ones, when I see high CP players. For example, I might not ask "everyone know this fight?" -- or I might ask "do we want to kill the boss via method A or method B" without asking if everyone has done the dungeon before. Probably I should not do this but hey, we're all human. ;)

In PvP you gotta show me something. You could have double xp-event grinded out over a thousand cp. As for a high alliance rank you could have nightcapped Zerg pv-doored it.

I’m Jump Lane, I came to get down. I’m coming at you. I don’t even look at tags.

Sometimes, I’ll be going hard against people on my friend’s list. They were on a different faction. I didn’t look at their tag.

I’m an ep dragon knight and I’ll 2h on my MAGDK sometimes since they nerfed DW glyphs and mopped plenty of people with it lol. That’s a poor assumption.

I have a high CP toon (well, 10 of them) with thousands of ingame hours, having done all content but the last couple of trials and group dungeons. I know the mechanics because I didn't just grind zombies all day. I recently did a vet group dungeon with 3 other PUGs that all had around the same CP I did, and I knew it would either be a breeze or a nightmare. It was a breeze, as everyone knew the mechanics and their role. Fastest vet dungeon run I've ever had. But, I've had runs with high CP where they didn't seem to understand even the basics of their role. Or people in PvP doing nothing but light attacks. The CP itself isn't a guarantee of anything, but the first minute will let you know what you are dealing with.

600 CP+ "maybe it will go good, we will see how it works out"
300-600 CP "we will see how it works out"
160-300 CP "uh I hope they at least know rotation and have good equipment, we will see how it works out"
0-160 CP "y u queue for vet when u don't have equipment bro..."

^thought process when I see people with certain CP. while higher CP doesn't really reassure me, I am aware that more CP can bring out more damage, and have more experience (again, usually).

I'm 1091 CP currently, but don't do a lot of PVP, and even when I go into Cyrodil, I don't usually bother to put on PVP gear. So if I'm in a non-zerg PVP or BG group, we're gonna have a rough time. Don't assume high-CP means they know every part of the game. Dungeons I can mostly clear solo if I have the patience, but I hate having to carry scrubs; high or low CP, watch a video so you know what to do and then do it.

I use Rainbow Reticle so I can see everyone's actual CP. It's useful to know if someone's another old, old player.
