So just over an hour later the game lets me in without a code... eh?

Yesterday, we updated the temporary access code you are required to enter if you are trying to access the game from an untrusted device or via a new IP address.

I haven't and I'm not. Zos either made a deliberate choice to implement this for everyone regardless of whether they have a new IP or not, OR the system is broken.
I can assure you with 100% certainty that I have the exact same IP address I had assigned to me when I signed up with my ISP about 4 years ago. (And another post here asked someone else if they can be sure... Yes, I am sure).

I work in IT. IP addresses are like phone numbers to me. I remember all of those that I need to remember. Like my own. Also, I set it up on the work firewall for remote access 3 years ago and it's still the same old IP.

Ok, I think I made my point :)

NO codes, in my spam mails, in my main mail box. No codes, its random. Sometimes it ask me a code,i restart the game and i can log just fine. Sometimes, like ..right now, my friends wait me for me being the dungeon healer and ... waiting for a code since half an hour now... Awesome
edit: even after a repair, asking me for a code, still no code in my mailbox/junkbox

This has to be a joke! No one from the officials care to take note of this or fix this? Well done. That's how you ruin a game from the start!
  • jamesrbarnesub17_ESO
I've been waiting 20 mins with no emails. What's up with this? So the instructions say that the number is only good for 10 mins ... I can't even get one email. I know their email address isn't blocked because I got an email earlier for a spam report from yesterday.

Lol and just got one for my first comment on the web forum

i have had the same IP for 5 effing years.. and according to Zenimax it has changed 3 times in the 2 days.. and only after i crash from the damn pvp bug.. Zenimax, you lost the game
  • bk.svenslib16_ESO
Ok, seriously! You, the Community Manager, NEED to talk to the developer team and tell them that the system they implemented is BROKEN! It needs to be disabled again until it can be fixed. As it is now we cannot log into and play the game when we like.

On my part its 50/50 if I get in or not. Sometimes it doesn't bother me, but just now I had a small client disconnect/crash and then it starts again. I wouldn't be bothered if the mail actually came but to date I have received only 2 mails from this system, both later than 30 minutes after they were sent. But sometimes if I wait a while I do get in again ... no code, no mail.

This is getting increasingly annoying. Disable it, fix it ... or just go with a "normal" authenticator system which is FAR better than this crap.

I keep having to re-authorise, and I am on business fibre broadband with a pre-assigned static IP that I have had for over 2 years. So it seems it can happen, regardless of static or not.
I use the same IP every time and I've been prompted to enter these codes in 3 different occasions.

I dont understand how you say you can "use the same ip". Your ISP configures your IP.

  • elderscrollsb16_ESO109
There's some confusion in there I'm afraid I contribute to create.
It's quite obvious that the public Internet IP used is not the sole point that the authentication check (if it's used at all).

My post (2nd answer on this thread, first one asking about IP address) was intended to clarify how the public IP address influence the process, since in many player case it will change quite often (every day) and so, this MAY cause a re-authentication by email to occur.

That doesn't mean this is what actually occur.

Since then my public IP changed at least 2 times and I didn't have to enter a new access code.

It's quite certain it's an element but keeping the same IP doesn't guarantee you will not have to re-authenticate, nor the reverse (and that's a good thing).

Anyway a little bit of explanation about the process from an official source would not hurt (no it's not a security breach to reveal how it works, security trough obscurity is proven to not work ).

I found your post very helpful, james_edwards1979b16_ESO.

I've had some strange experiences in this game (contacted support about it and got some (kind of) reply). This latest thing with access codes does not make me feel more secure at all when it happens for unknown reasons.

For me to have gotten this message means that someone must have tried to log in with my account name, or that my isp somehow tried to force change my IP during session. Granted, most does not have static IP as static IP makes it less convenient for the ISP to give out IPs where it is called for, but it isn't natural for an ISP to change it mid-session when connections are active (at least has it not been common in my experience).

So when you, james_edwards1979b16_ESO", mention that you got static public IP does it it sound as if there is some information from Zos that is missing, or obscure (like if they are making everyone verifying their email/access code in the coming/these days).

I got the email within 2 minutes, so no complain about the time.

ive been waiting over half an hour for my code to be able to login, hasnt been an issue previously as the code hasn't been going to my junk email on my previous logins, just seems to be very buggy at the moment, i logged in fine, got disconnected and now i need a code that refuses to arrive, im copping a lot of missed play time lately.

I know their email address isn't blocked because I got an email earlier for a spam report from yesterday.

Modern anti-spam filters don't work this way. Each email is checked against many criteria, the address itself being not really significant.

So be sure to add noreply@mail.elderscrollsonline.com to your white list.

Edit : this is just a general info, I know anti-spam filtering is not the cause for those issues (but it's better to be sure the email will not go in junk email)
