    Give people the option to have this security option, don't make the choice for us. I use the same computer every day and I don't want to deal with this crap when I get home from work. TURN IT OFF PLEASE.

    I understand why security measures like the temporary access code are needed.
    However I think we are many that do not understand why we must authorize a computer that has already been authorized in the past.

    Also is this method related to public IP address use ? I don't knwo how it goes in US, but there's still many people with dynamic IP address assigned by ISP and for which the IP address will change every day.
    Can you clarify on this ?

    @elderscrollsb16_ESO109‌ Its true most consumer internet providers uses dynamic IP using DHCP but that said in almost all cases the same IP is regranted when the lease expires. Usual turnaround time on these can be over a month or even more before it changes, its true that a modem restart or a forced lease drop/grant usually gives you a new IP but thats manual intervention and thus rare.

    ofc. if you play over a mobile broadband connection then you most likely will get a new IP each time but that is a special case.

    edit: oh and ofc we dont know what extra comparatives they use, I would for instance not go with the public IP in these checks but instead go with the HMAC.

    In France, most ISP do FORCE a new IP address every 36H at max.

    Even if you have a static IP address this system can kick in, it has with me and others have reported it too. Clearly this system is fingerprinting PCs themselves and not just using the external IP address.

    This is worrying.

    this is something we will continue to do over time.
    How can you possibly do this in the face of umpteen people reporting the FACT that they get e-mails from the forums within seconds but NEVER receive the security e-mails .. there are such posts even in this thread!

    One poster on Monday said he got his "first post" e-mail immediately he made his first post complaining about not receiving the security e-mail: that PROVES all the boiler-plate about 'spam filters' and other stuff blaming users' e-mail systems is utter bilge.

    This is lunacy, to do this while clearly the system generating these alleged e-mails is seriously broken. :s

    Sadly I cannot as I do not get the alleged e-mail that the game tells me I will receive. Or I do get some of them ... way after the validation expires though :s

    Also there is no change in my end. Same IP, same computer ... nothing has changed. Still it asks to validate an already validated computer.

    I don't understand why you could not go with a standard authenticator system instead? Then I could just whip out my app and type in the code myself without waiting hours trying to get in and then I don't :'(

    Also I tried changing the e-mail address associated with my account in case my ISP catch your mail in its spam filters. But sadly, your system doesn't allow e-mail address change ... whats up with that?

    Who needs hackers when you have botched security :s

    EDIT : Oooo, suddenly I got in without typing any form of authentication code. If this doesn't mean your security system is flawed I do not know what does!

    The server that sent the email from the forum is very luckily a different one that the server that sent authentication email.

    This second server (or pool of servers) where suddenly overcharged when it received hundred of thousands of request per minutes when server was back up and so many people tried to log in.

    Apart from the server capacity, in email communication, there's some technical limits that are beyond Zenimax perimeters.

    A mail server will not accepted more than a few connections from a same source at a time (that can be 20 at a time for small companies to thousands for Internet Service Providers)

    Let say for example that 10 000 people, which have their email managed by google for example, try to login in a few minutes
    Then Zenimax server will try to send 10 0000 email at once.
    Google will NOT accept so many emails at a time, and so this is google that will slow down the process. And the more emails there's the more the process will be slowed.
    This is normal behavior due to many reasons (protecting server from overcharge and fighting spam among others)

    But this is a fact that maybe Zenimax did not take in count enough.

    Understand me, I don't say Zenimax is for nothing in this problems. It should have been foresee and assess, or at least explained when the problem arise.

    But saying "i receive the email from forum and not from game" is not relevant because this is totally independent systems.

    It might be rare in your region, but it can be quite different for other users. I am with Germany's biggest ISP. I get different IP each time a new connection is made, and the ISP does a forced disconnect every 24 hours. A lot of other ISPs implement the same behaviour (some even have to rely on the same infrastructure technically to get their customers connected).

    However, I am not being asked for confirmation every day, so the IP based verification process is somewhat relaxed and probably checks for IP ranges instead of unique IPs.

    Ok so every time I try to play the game is going to want me to go to my email to get a code to put in after I spent $65 on this game installed it on MY pc just for it to say Ientered a invalid code my my/or my pc is not authorized to play a game I spent my money on and have to pay every 30 day to keep playing and I cant plat it. I want my money back and you can have your game back. I will also cancel the subscription.

    Heh, I turned off my modem, then turned it on and had the access code thing pop up as no doubt it assigned me a slightly different IP. Maybe their email system is a bit slow for some? >.>

    Just implement an authenticator app for phones. Way more reliable than this email garbage.

    My email, like all in my guild at the time this first happened, took ten minutes to arrive so why make the codes expire? My code duly expired, somehow none of my guildmates' did, and I was duly told to try again and for a new email to be sent.

    I "tried again" though that just mean inputting the code again for the same response, there was no way to press a button to request a new email, nor has one been sent in the days since.

    I then found I could log right in anyway. What the heck sort of logic is all this?

    If at first you don't succeed, keep trying. And again. Eat a cookie, read a wiki, I dunno, just try to relax, the frustration will only give you a headache.

    I have been trying to get ingame for around half an hour now. Refreshing my mails all the time- no email, neither in Junk nor in Spam nor anywhere. If you implement such a stupid system, please ensure atleast that the Mailservers can handle the requests. With the numbers of preorders you probably had a pretty good figure of the amount of people you'd have to handle.

    The current system is just unacceptable. Blocking you from playing- espesically if you just have an hour available each day, you surely don't spend half that time looking for an email thats never coming.

    With patch 1.0.2 we have taken steps to further strengthen game account security. Yesterday, we updated the temporary access code you are required to enter if you are trying to access the game from an untrusted device or via a new IP address. We are rolling out these changes in small waves—this began yesterday and will continue throughout the day.

    Unless you were already asked to enter a new access code yesterday, when you log into the game today, you may get a prompt to enter a temporary access code. Please keep an eye on your inbox for the access code (don’t forget to check your spam folder) and enter it into the “Access Code” pop-up box.

    Also, please be aware that these temporary access codes expire after 10 minutes. If you are accidentally blocked out of your account due to entering an expired access code, please wait 10 minutes and try again. You will be emailed a new access code.

    Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve account security measures—this is something we will continue to do over time. If you encounter any issues with the access code or your account or get locked out of your account, please try the troubleshooting steps in this article and contact our Support Team for assistance if troubleshooting does not help.


    It would be helpful to note that the codes are case sensetive.

    These access codes are beyond irritating. They take so long to arrive they've usually expired before I can use them, and having to *** about for 20-30 minutes every few days when I just want to play the game isn't at all encouraging me to keep playing.

    I received the code and put it in and it said that the code is NOT correct and yes, I know it's case sensitive.
    So now I'm having the 207 error again... had the same problem 2 days ago.
    This can't be right and is very annoying and needs to be fixed!!!

    I will not subscribe to a game which gives me such a hard time to log in.... waste of time and sanity. :)

    i have been waiting since 7 pm cst last night for the access code,i have retried to login every 20 min,minus 12 am-530 am when i was sleeping. 12 hours,and have yet to receive an access code, i do receive emails about bug reports and gold spammers i report.

    The access code system just needs to be disabled until the issues can be resolved to make it an efficient.

    This code verification system doesn't work properly. You could/should turn it off until you get it working. I get 1000 emails from reporting gold spammers, but I never get the "email access code" so that I can actually play. The system needs work...

    So then, I repair the files through the launcher and now I'm in without even using a code. Great security guys, bravo!

    *Update... I did finally get an email, after approx 2 hours. Even though I tried to login multiple times, only the one email arrived and obviously it was long expired.

    i am of the opinion that zenimax doesnt care,they have our money. i have emailed them multiple times,always with the same stupid response stating they dont understand what i mean about not getting access codes,what is the error code, then never replying again when i state that there is no error code,i need an access code to enter the game. i waited almost 2 hours to talk to someone on the phone,to be told that they dont understand what i mean about an access code, there is no system in ESO requiring such a code to login
