I'm trying to make more space in my inventory and bank but I really have no idea which sets are worth keeping vs. being sold to vendors. I've googled to see but so far all I see are links to older posts asking the same or similar questions. I'm guessing the expansions have changed all that quite a bit.

Ah, I feel your pain. I'll share my routine and tricks with you:

I made a lot of space getting rid of all head and shoulder pieces that weren't Monster Sets after staves started being counted as "two" for set bonuses.

I try to track all my sets with Set Tracker (the original author is no longer maintaining it, but there is an update for Wrathstone HERE).

When I start thinking about a set, I search for the [Daily] Set Tracker discussion on reddit to see how people are using the set - both mainstream and creative ideas. Archive list HERE. I flag the set as Sell/Decon if it's generally not used and I don't see myself trying the creative options.

Also I am more likely to keep trial gear, over dungeon gear, and if I am not sure will keep weapons and jewelry but drop armor pieces. This is because it is so easy to grind normal for armor pieces, but for weapons since they only drop off the last boss and chest it can take FOREVER to get them back.

Finally, I sell everything that is BOE. I used to keep stuff that looked interesting but my logic now is, if I can sell it, I can buy it later if I want it. Chances are good that it has more value now than on the future date that I wish to try the set.

    Ty for this, bookmarked.
eso-sets.com is also an nice site to look for relevant sets even if it exclude many good second tire ones.
Agree with keeping more trial gear and most of all weapons and purple rings from trials / harder dungeons.
Also shoulder and helmets outside a few cases.
And yes do not keep BoE items sell them unless you actively collecting.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Always depends on your own gamestyle, there is no "this set is not good" and "this one is best" sure there is the meta for every class, but they are most likely PvE relevant especially endgame.

The only really useless set I'd say is "Oblivion's Edge".

Huehue Oblivions Foe <3 Requires 8 traits to craft, all it does is buffing literally one skill.

(2 items) Adds 129 Health Recovery
(3 items) Adds 129 Stamina Recovery
(4 items) Adds 129 Magicka Recovery
(5 items) Increases the damage of your Soul Trap abilities by 100%.

I am doing my best, but I am not a native speaker, sorry.

"Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game." - @AlexanderDeLarge

I am no expert on sets, but I have a few guidelines for clearing inventory:

    1) Unless I have a good reason to keep them, non-monster bound shoulders and head are research/decon fodder
    2) Unbound sets I don't have a clear use for get sold if they have a decent guild store value. I can always buy them in the future if needed.
    3) I regularly check the Daily Set Discussion topic in r/elderscrollsonline
    4) I hold on to QoL sets, like sneaking sets for TG/DB dailies (during events) and general speed sets for collecting surveys

For a person unfamiliar with the game and just starting their first toon the training set can be OK for a bit. Useless for you now. If I have something that won't sell in a guild store I usually decon it.

Useless sets are the ones that might as well not exist in the game for me. I'm looking at you, dungeon/trial/arena bind-on-pickup sets. I don't care how neat you look - if you're in a trial, I won't ever use you. Nor will I ever use you if you drop in a DLC dungeon. As for base game dungeons, I will rarely have the patience to bother with you either. You are useless, dungeon/trial/arena bind-on-pickup sets! You can go away until you remember how to be flexible enough to be sold in guild stores or put in people's banks without being bound!

The reason why dungeon and trial sets are no longer BoE is that when those sets could be traded, the pool of players willing to run the content was very small, and the prices of the sets were outrageously high as a result.

The argument that players would farm those sets, thus increasing supply, was disproven. Ask prices for those set items ran as high as 500k, and queue time in Dungeon Finder was intolerable, even for tanks.

BoP dramatically increased the number of players running dungeons and trials to obtain gear to the point that even the most inexperienced players are able to find groups and obtain their gear.

    Oblivion's Edge
(2 items) Adds 833 Weapon Critical
(3 items) Adds 129 Weapon Damage

(5 items) Adds 129 Weapon Damage, When you kill an enemy, you fill an empty Soul Gem and heal for 1720 Health.

Not "totally" useless. When I want to quickly fill up a stack of soul gems I'll throw it on.

First set to decon is the sithis set. Not only is it trash, but it is soooo easy to farm. You can get a free piece daily from the DB free stuff person. You get it from sacraments. You can have a max level character run through the story quests for pieces. No reason to keep that around.

When I want to fill soul gems, I just kill mice, snakes, and deer. Actually, I never want to fill soul gems.

I guess to be more specific, I'm not a new player. I'm almost CP600 and my inventory and bank is full of monster and trial sets. So i'm full of what appears to be useful armor but obviously it's not all useful. My main is a mag sorc but I also have a stam tank and a stam nightblade. Basically I've just been doing daily trials for over a year now. But I have trouble finding helpful people IG that are willing to tell me what is useful vs. useless. So I've just been hoarding them all with divine, infused, and sturdy. I got 100s now.

Whatever you do, keep every piece of Spelunker. Its OP when it comes to things like dying in trials, dying in PVP, dying in dungeons. Especially if you pair it with Immortal Warrior. They will erect a statue to your memory.

no armor set is useless / trash, none, not one.
every armor set in eso is liked and used by someone somewhere with someones build that is loved by the user.
this thread leads to the destruction of sets and builds that people cherish and use daily.

I feel you, but we also have limited inventory/bank space. Otherwise I'd save them all.

Trainee, Night Mother, Vampire's Cloak and Vampire Lord, All the Undaunted Sets like Undaunted Weaver or Bastion, Destructive Mage, Quick Serpent, Twilights Remedy, Lunar Bastion, All sets in HoF save War Machine and Master architect, Immortal Warrior, Phoenix, Black Rose, Combat Physician, Heem-Ja, Mazzatun, every set in Vaults of Madness except Worm Cult, and Sithis...

These are just off the top of my head.

Are you serious? A full set of trainee gear for new players is definitely what you want to wear while LEVELING UP. At least until you can make your own Gear.

While leveling up is the key word. Even then, other gear can out pace this set. Despite what you say, trainee isn't that great.

    Phoenix,

Phoenix is the awesome no death dungeon run set. Its a get out of jail free card, when the CD is active you can just swap out the gear.
