With the way the game works, they’re in way too deep to raise the gear cap now. And upgrading hundreds of pieces just so you can bring your toons to viable playing level again shouldn’t be an option. Also more powerful armor and even enchants does not solve the issue of power creep.

Exactly. The power creep is caused by many factors one of them are bad mechanics. There should be mechanics punishing to high DPS like reflections, trash waves, accumulative attacks based on damage taken in some time period etc. This would let people to build still insane damage while also would force more tactical approach not just DPS race. Maybe it wouldn't end difference in DPS but it would end requirements for insane DPS for sure.

You get punished in some content. The last 3 bosses in Moon Hunter Keep have dps checks. You can't burn through without getting punished by waves of extra adds. The same goes for the bully boss in VMOS. Domihaus in Falkreath also has a dps check too which brings extra adds if you burn too fast

Perhaps they will introduce an item that can be applied to CP160 gear to upgrade it to the next level? And it can only be used on legendary items for example. So you turn your leg 160 CP dagger into a 'Insert new gear level name' legendary 160 CP dagger with slightly better stats?

If a gear cap raise ever comes (and Rich has already stated they are aware of the problems this would cause) I’m pretty sure ZOS introduces a conversion currency for the old items. Which will be rare drops on DLC Dungeon Hardmodes that are coming in grains and you need to refine 50 of them for a coating of conversion, where you need 5 of them to have a 100% conversion chance.... ;)

Omg and turning the gear of my 11+ max level character completely useless?? I would quit!

The only way this would make sense is that the overall power level of gear would be tied to a single and replaceable item on said gear. For example enchants. You change the enchant, you change the level of the gear which would update it's level and armor values.

That would be the only way I see this to make sense, but that would just add a trivial requirement that's not close to the huge, painful grind some people are oddly suggesting.

    I'm going to wait and reserve my judgement until more info comes out. I mean there's things in there still that we know will never see the light of day. I will say this though;

If they do have plans to raise the gear levels, they should probably think of a way of having players update their gear via crafting. I don't know many people who want to go through the CoA I and II grinds or the vMA grinds over and over again after drastic changes have already been made over the last few updates. Not to mention some cases performance has gone up, while others the performance is still abysmal. Or they PvP and hate PvE. Either way. It doesn't have to be easy, but there should be at least some kind of discussion of the sort.

By a "while" we are talking all the way back to the PTS of Orsinium. A lot has changed in the game since then. I believe One Tamriel effectively killed straight forward gear progression like this, which was already on life support after the conversion to CP changed end game leveling progression.

Any gear progression now will be based on improving current gear, and most likely involve some new type of currency.

Longer than Orsinium, I would suspect. It feels like the original goal was to have gear cap increases with major patches that are flavored to correspond to the update in which they were released. For example, 'ruby' materials released with the Imperial City DLC and a gear cap increase to VR16.

Huh? An MMO that doesn't require you to get the latest gear when a major upgrade comes? Which one is that?

I have only played a few, but they all required a grind after a major new update, even some minor ones.

I'm not sure how you pull this off, but I think it would be great if they raised all gear caps for crafted gear while not touching dropped sets.

I love the crafting system but find it next to meaningless above CP 160 because dropped sets are almost always better than crafted sets. So keeping dropped sets at CP 160 but raising gear cap on crafted sets makes crafted sets more competitive and would not require anyone to grind for new gear if they like what they have.

Oh god no... that means the game ends for me if they raise the gear cap... I'd certainly not farm for every damn item again, and I don't see a way they'd introduce crafting levels without raising the gear cap.

Well it was a long time ago so i don't even wanna try to find it but they def said they would tell us if the cp level cap on items gets increased and there will be some way to upgrade what we already have

Again that was a long time ago tho so who knows now

I am hoping for some new potion names to be used for Tripots so the Crafting Writs quit taking them

However, ZOS knows that raising the gear cap would be the death of this game, and being a scaled game, would serve no benefit after the players quit in disgust. So, even if these names are still floating around in the game code, I am sure they do not point to new levels for gear.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Could possibly be an advance in Alchemy and Enchanting? I mean look at every other skill short of provisioning. They are very involved and with those it's simple. What if these 3 new tiers of enchanting and alchemy are actually the same CP 160 but with new, added effects? Like the water has different additives and the enchants have different effects. Wouldn't be too hard to do, look at Hakejo and Poisons.

Move along, nothing to see here.

First, glyphs work like gear pieces in the itemization system. I'm sure many of you have seen now how you can modify the item code of, say, a Maelstrom staff, and get an item link for a CP200 vMA staff or a white-quality CP160 vMA staff.

The same is going on here--you can modify the item codes of glyphs and get a CP180 glyph item link. That doesn't mean that the item actually exists and will ever exist. The original plan was for each content update to increase the maximum VR rank. Long, long ago, back in 2015, support for higher tiers were added to the game. Yes, there are VR18 (now CP180) crafting materials currently in the game's itemization tables. They've been there since 2015!

The overwhelmingly negative response that ZOS received following the VR14->VR16 transition got them to put a pause on further VR increases, and the whole notion was eventually scrapped. The elimination of VR and One Tamriel effectively nailed shut that coffin. But those items were already added to the itemization table. Names like "Majestic" were already added to the naming system. They're just cruft in the itemization system that never got purged. And there's a lot of that, actually.

Generally speaking, you'll never see things like that unless you have some sort of data-mining addon going through and probing all the nooks and crannies of the itemization system. As it turns out, the new guild store system's autocomplete kinda acts like that, because it apparently just dragnets the entire itemization table without any regard to whether or not something is actually in the game or some lost, long forgotten relic of an aborted project.

Stuff doesn’t seem to be culled from the active download *ever*.

Console regularly has monstrously gargantuan downloads. Last I recall was over 80 gigs. Yes, over 80.

At least the consoles started auto-updating. Seeing the update go live while you were just starting your workday and having to wait until you got home just to start it going in the middle of prime time was more than irritating.

Best scenario would be a culling update that did a lot of housekeeping by dumping the legacy discontinued junk.
