Possible new crafting tiers coming with Elsweyr

With Elsweyr, I believe ZOS is adding new crafting tiers. With CP not going up, having new levels for other types of things is an interesting way of adding end game growth. What evidence is there so far? With the release of the new Guild Trader UI, one of the features is an autofill suggestion in the search box. For instance, if you search for "glyph of weapon damage" and let it fill in the quality levels, you see a few levels that cannot be currently crafted, like "Exalted" and "Unfathomable"

0AaAeHa.png

Another example, if you search for potions, there are similarly levels you cannot currently craft, like "Quintessence of _" (Current highest level potions are called "Essence of _"

Oh god no... that means the game ends for me if they raise the gear cap... I'd certainly not farm for every damn item again, and I don't see a way they'd introduce crafting levels without raising the gear cap.

It could just be non-gear based things, like the enchants and potions I mentioned, or even things like having a higher tier than gold gear. This would mean you could keep your CP160 gear, but have a higher quality level to work towards

Yeah, that could work, in principle...

But, they were having issues with the power creep due to sets and CPs, and they didn't want to increase CP to avoid increasing the power, and then they'd do that? Sounds a bit counter-intuitive, to be honest :/

Unless the increase in values due to the new tiers is very minuscule, that'd add a lot of power creep on their own, even more than new sets and CP increases... IMO, at least.

It’s gonna be jewelry crafting all over again

Get ready to refine 100 atoms into a molecule and then refine 100 molecules into a shard and then refine 10 shards into a glyph

How about we not touch gear levels unless it’s gonna be to add the missing cp160 potions, and nothing else ffs

I always thought it was weird that potions and food had a final rank of CP150, maybe this will address that?

Also, Dual-Stat glyphs could be interesting. A little bit more potent than Tristat, but not as strong as single stat. Might open up some new build options.

Possibly, but in an MMO there has to be end game progression. I think the power creep wasn't the issue so much as how spread out and difficult it is to balance the CP system. Having a higher gear tier would allow a more controlled progression system

Very interesting! My guess is higher gear levels will be obtained from end-game content such as trial ( normal and vet). This however would pose restrictions on purely PvP players...
Didn't GW2 have a similiar system? I think it was the reason I stopped playing because even dungeons seemed awefully difficult, I didn't even bother with raids

Anyway, I wouldn't mind the increase. Let the new farm begin!

New crafting tiers for Elsweyr would have already been announced. It's more likely that those are just old unused assets that never made it into the game.

They cannot simply remove progression from this game / put halt to progress and not just give something else in exchange. That doesn't work.

And to have a gear cap at a quite low amount of CP never made sense. What about removing CP from gear entirely and give us something else?

Implications would be a new gear cap, hence we have to grind getting gear all over again.

    If the information is correct.

Edit: someone has pointed out that a new gear cap would have already been announced, but off hand I cannot recall how early Zos stated they would be making substantial changes to sustain in the Morrowind patch. If it was not this early then they could hold off on news they know would not be taken well.

That's all fine and good... but they can't possibly pretend for people to have to redo all the farming of all the items they need for all their characters... it not reasonable.

Unless they go to gear tiers like other MMOs, where new gear suppresses completely old gear, is not possible to do what you imply and have people remain playing the game normally... at least, that's my own perception. The third or fourth time you have to farm for an inferno vMA staff again in the new level cap, you'd also be looking for a new game to play, else I won't believe you'd be being honest.

EDIT: That's basically the issue here... old gear has to perish and not have to be upgraded (like it was for a period of time when they raised level to VR14 and several sets weren't updated, IIRC everyone I knew hated that at that time...) or you'd have to re-farm the same gear again...

The third option, which is a new game mechanics for upgrading gear to the new cap, is not an entirely free of problems either, because it'd of course be a large grind on their own, which in turn means that, if the game proceeds to level content to the new gear powel levels, you'd not be able to do new content until you have the means to upgrade the gear, hence have to suffer through all the grind, in order to do so.

All in all, it'd have to be seen how they implement it... but it's fair to have misgivings about it, at the very least.

I'm not certain as to how to feel about this, if they raise gear to higher CP level like 200 or above, I don't see it sitting well with most people since the cap has sat at CP160 for a few years now.

Implications would be the same as when they introduced new tier of gear in GW2 - halved revenue an now mass layoffs in ArenaNet. You dont want that happening to ESO, do you?

Though it makes sense that there would be something craft related exclusive only to Elsweyr. Maybe ingredients for better glyphs and potions that are found only there - rather than entirely new levels yes?

Not even back then it made sense. It should always have been max level (=50). Everything after should have been an entirely separated progression system not attached to gear.

This seems more likely if anything. But ZOS is just going to rework the CP system, it’s not going away entirely and it’s not just going to stagnate at CP810. And I very much doubt they’d both rework CP and raise the gear cap. Additionally I think the gear cap raise would be a horrible move for them.

Raising gear cap = halving the population. When you spend weeks to get your gear for just one toon for one role, nobody will be like "oh ok then, I'll spend gladly next year and all of my gold just to rebuild my sets collection".

So it better be something else, and please don't give us this crazy grind sheit like with jewelry upgrades.

"Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 24 DLCs. 40 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. With the way the game works, they’re in way too deep to raise the gear cap now. And upgrading hundreds of pieces just so you can bring your toons to viable playing level again shouldn’t be an option. Also more powerful armor and even enchants does not solve the issue of power creep.
