Chapter III: Elsweyr does contain less features than Morrowind or Summerset...
... but still costs as much as Morrowind did back at launch.
I mean how is this reasonable pricing?
Morrowind brought us two major features:
- New Class: Warden
- New PvP Mode: Battlegrounds
Summerset brought us one and a half new major features:
- New Skill line: Psijik Order
- New profession: Jewelrycrafting
Elsweyr will bring us one major feature:
- New Class: Necromancer
Every year since they introduced the "Chapter format" each Chapter was smaller and contained less features than the previous one. As much as I love the things they showed us about Necromancer (and Elsweyr!) it's just one new class. Besides that there is nothing gameplay-changing or worth mentioning. I do not count something like UI overhaul as a new feature, it's not. If we take this into account Morrowind and Summerset still would have offered a lot more.
The entire Elsweyr Chapter is advertised with NECROMANCER and DRAGONS (that are basically no feature, were Sloads a feature? No...). That's it. On top of that we get two dungeon DLCs this year - again - in Q1 and Q3 which is the most lazy approach to fill the quarterly DLCs with content.
Don't get me wrong, there is still the "JUICY E3 ANNOUNCEMENT" Rich was talking about and the Q4 DLC but besides that... is nothing. Elsweyr offers us a (beautiful) new zone, a brand new class and a lot of QOL fixes / updates (that cannot be regarded as features or selling points). That's it. What will we get next year? Just one skill line and nothing else?
Honestly, as much as I liked the "new content cadence" and their Chapter approach after Morrowind, up to now it has been a major disappointment when it comes to developing / evolving the game (besides just adding new zones / quests).
What's your opinion on that topic?
As it looks now, 2019 will be the year ESO got the least amount of new stuff or features overall, the only year we might have gotten less was 2014, ESO's launch year - is that how to celebrate your 5th anniversary?
