Comptetitive MagPlar NO CP build?!

Those who know me know that when it comes to PVP, even though I play on different classes, my Magplar is main. I never had any difficulties making it work in CP campaigns over the past 3 years (my latest build is simply beast). No-CP, though, is a different story! Despite my many attempts, my best result was fairly mediocre (Shacklebreaker + Desert Rose). Damage was just OK and sustain often an issue. Despite my experience with the class I have never managed to make it work in a COMPETITIVE way. I tried both heavy and light setups but I just can't seem to make it work. I looked on YouTube and asked around but I don't seem to find any competitive build for No CP out there.

Is it me or is it just impossible to competitively play with MagPlars in No-CP environments as DPS (Tanking and Healing are actually quite easy)?

Problem may be that You expect same brainless effectiveness from magplar in non CP as it offers in CP.

Brainless? Try to play solo PVP with a Magplar and we will talk again. Zero mobility, healing that forces you to stay on your backbar when under pressure, an execute that leaves you completely vulnerable and lack of burst (apart from power of the light, Dark flare only kills noobs). It may be "brainless" with regards to healing, tanking and playing in a large group, but when it comes to solo - that's an entirely different story. Anyway, this is not the topic of this thread

There are plenty of easy ways to play magplar in non-cp. Check out battlegrounds builds. Templars now have mobility through race-against-time (or morphs). I made a post about it awhile back

I’m working on a new Magplar build for no cp/battlegrounds. I think it’s an awesome setup so far. Channeled focus for example is amazing in no cp with the buff it got in wolfhunter. Hopefully I will have some footage to post over the weekend on my YT.

I personally think mag is simply worse in no cp. Without investing in amber plasm stam sustain is impossible.

I've been running a mix of axiom and julianos with mighty chudan and having fairly reasonable time with it

When BGs switched from CP to no-CP I made adjustments for my playstyle.

The build I was using worked incredibly well until Rune Cage became OP. Now that it has been nerfed, it could likely work again:

5 transmutation (s&b back bar)
5 seducer
2 skoria
1 maelstrom ice staff charged

-Vampire and Argonian. You might not need Vampire with the Race Against Time skill.
-Swift jewelry wasn't yet introduced when I ran this build but I would run at least 2 pieces of that.
-I would consider Shacklebreaker instead of Seducer.
-This build plays ranged - not sure how it would play up close and personal if that's your style.
-Trade the ice staff out if you want more damage but I like keeping them slowed down.
-If you can't get a Maelstrom destro staff, use Willpower. Maelstrom destro got a nice buff though when light attacks got a buff in Summerset.

I have some score recaps and a few funny moments captured with this build but nothing extensive.

That's the thing. I know there are viable options for ranged DPS but I play mele. I can't find a setup that makes me tanky while allowing me to sustain well without losing too much damage.

It's not just you. I found it difficult too despite playing as a Magicka-based Templar on this game since beta. I tried that desert rose set as well and wasn't impressed with it either.

I ended up just making a vampire build and largely ignored my Templar abilities. It's not the greatest build ever - but it's competitive and I can make my presence known with it. But If there is a way to make a good actual Templar build in this game's silly PvP I haven't really figured it out yet either. Frankly I think the class just sucks in PvP.

I have a successful ranged build, changed some things around since making the video but in essence the same.

I would not at all recommend melee magicka in no-CP. No-CP combat is very unforgiving, you don't have the comfortable raw stats boost from CP, you don't have the damage mitigation that CP offers you, and you don't have the easy roll dodge or block reduce cost of CP. But if you really want to yo play melee you need-
1) Stamina. Absolute most important thing is a large enough stamina pool (preferably with roll dodge reduce cost also) to roll dodge roots and reposition on demand. Shacklebreaker or Amber Plasm are probably your best choices there. Immovable pots are also a great way to conserve Stamina.
2) Speed: 1-2 pces Swift is a must to keep your Sweeps hitting all the stam-bros. Combine that with Major Expedition pots and Reflective Light snare and you will be able to keep pace.
3) Use Range: A large part of your kit is still ranged skills, use that to your advantage by firing off all your DoT's and squishy-ing them up before they can gap close you (if vs'ing a pure melee). I'm specifically thinking the combo of Entropy > Purifying Light > Reflective Light > Toppling Charge > Sweeps. Or if they gap close you simply Dawnbreaker instead of Sweeps.

I'm guessing you probably use points 2 and 3 already, but throwing them out there anyway.

Yes, I am already using points 2 and 3. Also I DO NOT want to go the cancer route of some builds - light armor, and PL+VB+Dark Flare+Radiant D combo. That build is so cheesy!

I would probably need to build something like this:
* Shacklebreaker
* Seducer
* Valkin Skoria
x2 Swift rings
x1 Arcane (or Triune?)
x3 Spell damage glyphs
Apprentice mundus

What do you guys think? I think I could sustain and do some decent damage. But even then, I would perform so much better with my MagSorc... Or StamBlade, or StamSorc or MagDK or anything else!!!

no-cp is not solo friendly and more a number game than skillful game. Getting outnumbered is most of the time a lose for you.

For no-cp argonian is by far the best race for mag templer also proc sets are better than skills in no cp.

try something along the line: wizard+overwhelming+pirate/skoria+infused oblivion

Yes, I did run across this build. I am yet to test it - waiting for the research of my swift-trait to be over.
