thanks! but it doesn't make sense to me☺️ if you're maximizing where's the minimizing part?

The term dates back to pen and paper RPGs like D&D, and refers to the fact that you MINimize your weaknesses and MAXimize your strengths.

Pretty much this. For example, a D&D player who wants to maximize their strength might put a really low score into their Charisma or Wisdom stat, as low as their DM will let them get away with, in order to put extra skill points towards Strength. Skyrim didn't use this system as much, but TES 3 Morrowind and TES 4 Oblivion did use some RPG stat systems, so it was easy to min-max characters by putting points into the useful attributes and ignoring the ones that were less important.

For ESO, its a little more well rounded. You see more min-maxing with trials groups

The most obvious one is putting all your attributes into magicka OR stamina. The game rewards maximizing your primary resource at the expense of the others. This is why certain group support sets like Ebon Armory remain good. Ebon Armory lets a tank grant an extra 1k health to all the healers and DPS in the trial group, so those DDs can build to maximize damage without having to sacrifice to get that 1k health they now get from the Ebon set.

Another is certain PVP roles. Gankers and bombers tend to maximize theirstealth and upfront damage burst so they can overwhelm opponents in a quick strike.that leaves them as a "glass cannon" against most often situations, especially if they are detected before the attack.

Well, we made it through two pages of good questions and generally sensible answers. Lets keep it up!

Ohhh I am glad someone started a thread like this..

I have been playing since console launch and I still learn new things everyday.

However last night my character bugged out in Cyrodiil and was only able to purchase siege and what not in increments of 10. How in the world do I change this back so I can buy in increments of 1? This if for Xbox!

    What's PTS?
    @LifenLemons
    Player Test Server

Only available to PC players. It's used when ZoS makes new content and wants to test it before releasing it.

Which is pointless, because everything broken that's reported is still released.

    What's PTS?

Public Test Server, basically a playground for testing ZOS' new, content.

Its available to PC players, though people needed a special invite and NDA to test parts of the latest Chapter like Summerset.

With the PTS, you can create a new character, play your current characters or create a template characters. To make a template character,,use the creation screen and select Template from a drop down menu. Template characters will be max level, with all skill points available, and have containers with all the gear and consumables and crafting items in the game, which allows you to freely experiment and test however you like.

The PTS also copies over the PC/NA and PC/EU servers every couple of weeks. So some of the time you will have a copy of your characters (often from a week or two before the current main servers) and some of the time you will only have access to your characters on the other server. I play PC/NA, so I made template characters during the weeks when the Summerset PTS was using PC/EU characters. They also reset the PTS periodically so any progress or new characters you make on the PTS won't last.

The PTS is a completely seperate server, so anything you do on the PTS wont carry over to the main servers at all whether that's good or bad.

Personally, I used the Summerset PTS to test things I was curious about. I figured out how to get the Psijic Order skill line. I wanted to know how bad the jewelry farm was going to be, so I farmed Bal Foyen for a couple hours to check the drop rate of seams (ZOS later increased the drop rate). I checked the drop rate of rare fish in Artaeum for someone. I played around with gear sets I'll probably never bother to actually acquire in the real game. I decorated the Colossal Aldmeri Grotto with crown store stuff because that's the only way I'll ever have that house. And I reported the bug that caused rapid manuevers to dismount me (a bug that made it to Live).

With the PTS, ZOS already has a lot of stuff set in stone. Its a mostly finishes product. So dont be disappointed if ZOS ignores your feedback. I look at it more as a chance to prepare myself for what's coming and get comfortable with big changes like jewelry crafting.

Now I want to do this too.... This sounds epic. To be able to test things like that. To learn as you go and have access to all the mechanics.
My pc caved in about 3 weeks ago. I don't have the means to sort it out at this time.

It's not common knowledge for a lot of people, particularly on console, what all the chat commands are. Coming from PC it's second nature to me, but there are players new to PC or on console that still don't know you can activate emotes via chat.

For bare basics though, let me put these here for any of those folks in need. Just put these in the chat before typing something else to change who can see your typing:

/s or /say: anyone in the local area
/y or /yell: anyone in a larger local area
/z or /zone: anyone in the same zone as you
/g or /group: anyone in your group
/g# where # depends on which order your joined guilds are in: anyone in that guild

There are plenty of other commands but these are very important for just being able to use chat in any basic way I think.

    now it's making sense!

This is why people talk about a stamina or magicka build - which basically means all their attribute points are in either stamina or magicka. Their main weapon goes with it as well - blade, blunt and bow with stamina, staves with magicka. Then at higher level there is as well a difference in blade/blunt weapons, each has it's own benefits - well, the same can be said about staves as well. Frost staff can be used to taunt an enemy to attack you with tri-focus for example, so you can pull an enemy away from your allies by attacking it with a frost staff, he will then let go on the others and attack you instead.

This is usually a good thing to do. However, you do need a bit of the "other", so you should find some way to get it other than in your attribute points. Many sets give a little of both, or you can put some on a belt or something. Purple food helps a lot too.
For a Stam build, you need to pay attention to which skill require mag, or can never be morphed to a stam skill.
For Mag builds, you need to think about stam for roll dodge, block, etc.
Just pay attention to that, and your playstyle, and monitor if you frequently run low of the "other".

This is a fun & cool aspect of PTS. To mess around with all kinds of sets you may never get (or would take a long time). Or just for fun to run around as a super max char...
