I can confirm that accounts created through Steam, AFTER the One Tamriel update, will allow you to login using the EXE.

My grandma started playing ESO on the June 11th, 2018. Her copy of ESO was purchased that same day.

I was able to get her logged in by doing the following:

    Browse to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\The Elder Scrolls Online\game\client
Your install path may be different. You can easily find it by right clicking the game in Steam, clicking properties, choosing the 'Local Files' tab in the popup, and clicking "browse local files", then finding the correct sub-folder.

Open "eso64.exe". Type in your username, then your password. You will probably have to check the email associated with your ESO account (may or may not be the same as your steam email address, hers wasn't), and input the security code.

Thats it. She was able to login and play just fine, and I am 100% sure that her copy was purchased on the 11th, as I bought it for her. She didn't have an existing account prior to this.

    Ur grandma? She sounds awesome

Without an explanation, the amount of time it takes to fix a log in issue leaves one to conclude pure incompetence.

I cannot confirm this. My copy was purchased and installed 6-14-18. I get LOGIN ERROR (Login failed. Your username or password may be incorrect or inactive at this time. If you purchased the game through Steam, please start the game via the Steam Client to login)

    Worked for me

But it does not work for everyone.

Yeah i kinda put that together..it sucks but at least it helps some people

Alas, another night with the red Steam banner on display.

I absolutely love playing ESO but I have so far avoided purchasing Summerset or a long-term ESO+ membership because I don't want these products tied to an account with ongoing reliability issues. I wish I had the option of directly logging into the game instead of going through Steam.
  • BeatrixLaChance
This is such a huge issue, I can't even attempt to use the eso64.exe because I run the game on my Mac. Though entirely unconventional, its the only computer I have to run games on. Please ZOS get your stuff together, and fix the issues.

Thanks for the info. Didn't work for me. I had an ESO account that I linked to Steam and I have ESO+. Not sure if my account is similar to others......

Come on ZoS, I know y'all work hard but this gets kind of ridiculous when players like me who pay for a yearly membership and are huge contributors to your pockets can't log in all day. This is bad for business... Bad for player base too.. I hope there is a plan in place to fix this or maybe take down your servers for a day or two and get new servers. idk but whatever you are doing is not working. You can't keep beating your heads against the walls everytime this happens trying to "investigate" the issue. You know what the issue is, fix it.
  • Kittybitty
This really sucks. It has been pretty much all day AGAIN. They throw up a red banner and wait till server traffic dies down and call it fixed. Until it happens on the next busy prime playtime day. I pay for a sub and I buy crowns all the time. I really love this game, but the customer service with this issue has been crap. There is no communication other than the red banner. Very disappointing.

    New ESO Functionality on Steam
We’re happy to announce that The Elder Scrolls Online now offers convenient new functionality with Steam. This means that starting today, our players on PC and Mac can now seamlessly launch and play ESO directly from the Steam client and more.

Here’s a short list of everything new you can now do with ESO from within the Steam client:
Launch and play the game ( How To[help.elderscrollsonline.com])
Purchase an ESO Plus membership (How To[help.elderscrollsonline.com])
    Purchase Crown Packs (How To[help.elderscrollsonline.com])
Link your Steam version of ESO to your Steam account (How To[help.elderscrollsonline.com])
For more information on how to do each of these, please visit our Support Center[help.elderscrollsonline.com].

Please note that if you are a current ESO player on Steam, you will need to fully uninstall and reinstall the game in order for the new ESO/Steam client functionality to work. Here’s how[help.elderscrollsonline.com]. We are working on a fix so that in the future, this will not be necessary.

Now that The Elder Scrolls Online offers more functionality with Steam, it opens up more opportunities for us to create cool stuff for our community here on Steam. We are interested in creating Steam achievements and more – keep an eye out for details!

Thanks all, we’re working on the Steam login issue.

Not just Steam, I got on, played but crashed to desk top. Even got a report to send in which I never did before. Not sure if related or not.
Not my quote but I love this saying

funny how this happens every holiday, then doesn't get fixed till people return to work.
maybe someone should put gas in the generator before they leave for the weekend. or check to make sure the servers can handle the load before they leave.

I am really doubting the sincerity of "actively investigating" especially when the only time ZOS shows up after placement is to tell us how naughty we are for being upset and to pipe down.

Yes, it’s is the straight up lying that bothers me the most to be honest. Just say “we are waiting while celebrating the holiday for the server population to lower enough for you to log on. Alternatively you could buy the game again off of steam for the privilege of playing the game you already paid for and are probably subbed to as well. Have a happy holiday!”

Either on a holiday, or on a Sunday, when there are more people who aren't stuck working that sign on to play, and the servers aren't configured to handle the load, so they go Tango Uniform, and then we're all SOL.

Wondering how many people's day off you've ruined because thy cant log on..... I was hoping to get some questing done today...

We can always home that it includes a bunch of ZOS staff who get called back in on their day off to help troubleshoot the problem. The more inconvenience it causes for their staff, the more likely ZOS will cough up the money to actually address the problem.

The guy is trolling--he bought the account for his grandma?

Why would I be trolling? Do you have some weird idea that older people don't play MMO's? Shes 72, not dead, and has probably been playing video games for longer than you've been alive.

And there it is.. the ZOS employee comes in, tells us were naughty while no actual information is passed along. I really don't think you guys understand the frustration of outage after outage after outage since Summerset. Instead you throw up a banner, call it a day.. and sometime tomorrow it will be back up again with absolutely no information. Wash, rinse, repeat. Sadly my ESO+ was just subbed a couple of weeks otherwise I probably would have quit by now.

The green post is a forum mod, their job is be on the forums and make sure everything is in accordance with the rules. They have nothing to do with the Dev team. They have nothing to do with login servers, bug reports, patch notes, or anything like that.

I wonder if they are not allowed to offer apologies based on the rules of their employment since that would implicate some form of accountibility. To just pop back in to remind the customers fuming about their time and money being wasted about not making polls while there’s some serious unrest going on about this is an interesting PR decision.

    That's great and all, but.....

    1. I'm colorblind and can't differentiate green and red.

    2. While they have different jobs, other than the lovely banner at the top, this is the only interaction we have had with any ZOS/Beth?Zeni entity at all
