Did anyone else notice the new combat sound effect?

For pity's sake, whose great idea was it to add in a gong sound effect or bell dinging or whatever the hell it is every time you initiate combat.

Do you even realise how many times people engage in combat, in dungeons or overland content or wheverever?

What is this, some kind of lousy parody on a street fighter match? "3 - 2 - 1 - *bell dings* FIGHT!"

I thought this was an RPG and not a boxing simulator. It's bad enough that we have to put up with the soundtrack being interrupted and turned into combat music every time you engage as much as a skeever, but we're only a single day into the new update, and already I'm incredibly annoyed at that stupid gong sound.

Guess it's another reason to turn off sound and music completely, and put on something on your own instead, but adding stupid comic book sounds like that wasn't really a great idea methinks.

Is that what causes it? I kept hearing a sound and couldn't figure it out.

I was trying to figure out if it was a set or skill proc notification they added. If it really is every time you enter combat then yeah, that needs to go away or become a toggle because it's really cheesy.

First I didn't realise where it was from either, I play with the music and sound on to try and enjoy the Brad Derrick soundtrack, but I noticed that awful ding going on every time I entered combat, so I started paying better attention, and yes, it's definitely something new that plays each and every time you enter combat.

Tried to look under audio in the settings as well for an option to turn it off, but there weren't any.

And now that I notice it, I can't un-hear it. So like I said, only option I can see is to turn off the audio completely and just play something on your own =(

Can add-ons remove specific sound effects? I would have thought that was outside what the API can do.

Hopefully ZOS notice and give us a toggle at least.

There are simpler ways to do this like the add-on which just made the boarder of the compass red. Sound effects are too intrusive and immersion breaking IMO.

There isn't any sound when combat ends, so I really doubt that's the reason why.

More likely, they're trying to appeal to a demographic that prefers "fast paced content" and "fun and engaging gameplay" such as this. Hence my ironic reference to Street Fighter and boxing games.

I think they forget that some of us decided to play ESO exactly because of the aesthetics that stayed true to more realistic RPG games, instead of over the top visuals and sound effects.

Along with crown store ads, level up rewards with forced, phoney clapping and daily login rewards, the game is becoming cheaper and cheaper by every update.

A week ago I had this happen to me in a random dungeon. At first I didn’t recognize where it was from but sure enough it was a vMA sound bite that kept playing around combat.

I'll check to see if I can reproduce the sound and locate the source. If I can, I'll video capture it and post it to YouTube...and provide a link here for Devs/Players to see.

It is caused by set Jorvuld's Guidance - if somebody has it only one bar (or has it on weapons), when weapon swapping it will play this funny sound each time :) Funniest run was when tank in random nMoL pug had it and was weapon swapping unnecessary many times just to annoy us all :D

Don’t you dare solve an issue like this with an ADD-ON. Console players don’t have add-ons to save us from something like this. Fix the actual issue and there will be no need for an add-on.

    Hey guys!

Just a note, we have NOT added anything to the start of combat, so if players are experiencing some sort of bell ring when they engage combat, this would definitely be a bug and we want to look into it. Internally, everything seems to be fine so any more info you can give that can help us track it down would be a HUGE help. We need to set up the same sort of test cases so we can figure out what is happening.

Any chance you can grab a video and upload it somewhere so we can hear this sound which will help us track it down?
Are you wearing a certain item set that might be setting off a proc? Is it every single time you log in, or did it fix itself after logging out? Do you have any add-ons installed that might change audio?

Also, as far as the Jorvuld's Guidance set, we will look into that as well, maybe make it less annoying sounding ;)

Thanks for any info you can provide, we will look into this as soon as we can!

I've had "a sound" whether or not it's the one Carbonised has or not I can't say.

DPS testing on 3m Argonian Skeleton.
    Nightblade, Dunmer, Magicka Build
Sets: Valkyn Skoria, Master Architect, Mechanical Acuity, Maelstrom Inferno Staff
    Skill set-up LINK

At first I thought it might be a notification something is ready (ultimate on back bar) or a proc being ready (Merciless Resolve) but I didn't notice those being ready every time I heard it. It would happen sometimes at the start or randomly in the combat tests.

Yes, add-ons can remove specific sound effects, with the caveat that they must be sound effects originating from the UI. For this, there's a small chance it could be removed, but rather unlikely.

Yep, I use Action Duration Reminder and it notifies me by sound when a timer expires. I noticed the sound changed after summerset. (I assume because ZOS added some additional effects and that threw off the sound index).

I haven't noticed any other strange sounds at the start of combat.
