Did anyone else notice the new combat sound effect?

    This.

I usually play with no music on this game. I used to like it, but then I think it was with 1T the tracks got diversified and mixed, and it really put me off standing in sunny Deshaan and hearing the gloomy depressing tunes from Hew's Bane or Gold Coast randomly start to play. They simply did not fit and ruined the mood.

It's also extremely annoying to have the music change every 5 seconds when I'm farming for monster trophies. I've tried turning music back on but end up nuking it back into Oblivion just a couple hours later.

My only regret was missing the epic anchor tune but even that was one was nerfed, so I guess there is literally nothing now that makes me want to turn it back on.

Back on topic, hadn't noticed any of this but just turned music back on to check and I was instantly greeted by a loud GONG when a measly jackal attacked me. No way am I going to ever turn music back on like this if this is going to play every other time I engage in battle.

After some systematic testing, I have discovered that the bell ding is a part of one of the new combat music scores.

While that clears things that it seems to be "working as intended", I still suggest that you and @ZOS_SoundMaster perhaps re-think that particular sound in this particular track. The bell ding is very loud, and very distinctly different than all the other instruments used in the score, thus it stands out very clearly, also it plays immediately, like 2 seconds, into the track, which also makes it appear more than a sound effect than part of the track itself.

I see from this thread that others than I have found the sound very distinct and annoying as well, so I hope you'll consider perhaps removing it in an update. The particular combat track plays perhaps 1 out of every 4-5 times, so you hear it A LOT, since the ding comes immediately in the track, like I said.

I was hearing a new noise when i use degeneration, could it be a new sound for the empower buff? It was similar to what people are describing but sounded evertime i used degeneration.

Many people lead in with that skill so maybe this is what they are hearing.

Ps. Its not an addon on my end. I dont have any loaded since patch.

I thought I was losing my mind hearing this little bell. I would alt-tab out and check all my browser tabs to see what was making that weird "alert" bell sound. Now I know and I hope they fix it...seems very out of place.

Srendarr's Buff Tracker will play a gong sound when you weapon swap as of this patch. You can disable the sound in settings under "play sound on proc". It seems to think one of your sets is proccing an effect every time you bar swap.

    Hey guys!

Just a note, we have NOT added anything to the start of combat, so if players are experiencing some sort of bell ring when they engage combat, this would definitely be a bug and we want to look into it. Internally, everything seems to be fine so any more info you can give that can help us track it down would be a HUGE help. We need to set up the same sort of test cases so we can figure out what is happening.

Any chance you can grab a video and upload it somewhere so we can hear this sound which will help us track it down?
Are you wearing a certain item set that might be setting off a proc? Is it every single time you log in, or did it fix itself after logging out? Do you have any add-ons installed that might change audio?

Also, as far as the Jorvuld's Guidance set, we will look into that as well, maybe make it less annoying sounding ;)

Thanks for any info you can provide, we will look into this as soon as we can!

I can confirm that Srendarr's Buff Tracker plays a gong sound on weapon swap as of this patch. It can be disabled in settings under "play sound on proc", for anyone interested.

If that isn't causing it for you, I suggest disabling add-ons one by one (or in small groups) until you narrow it down. Any add-on that uses sound files could be the culprit.

It being a combat music track explains why I don't hear it, ever.

I play with in-game music off, and ambiance and the rest on. Game feels more immersive for me that way (whoever heard of there being a sound track to life, outside of a movie?!).

Look at my post above, as well as the ones above that. It's not addon related or anything, it's a part of one of the new combat music tracks that were added with Summerset. It's easy to test, playing with music on and soun effects off makes it easy to hear the ding once the track plays, it's like 1-2 seconds into the track, and playing with music off and sounds on effectively removes the ding, along with the rest of the combat music of course.

And again, seeing how prevalent combat music is when you're overland exploring, questing or even doing dungeons, and considering that the ding is very, very noticable and stands out from all the other combat music, I'd still suggest the audio team considers whether to remove that ding from the track some time in the future.
Otherwise, it's another reason for me to mute the game completely and play something else, which is a pity.

Don't use the add-on. However it sounds like from the rest of the post I might have just been hearing the music track and assuming it's a sound effect.

I have no idea what you think you fixed in the patch before this, but it surely wasn't anything related to this post.

The ding is still there, and like I said before, it has been confirmed to be a part of one of the new combat music tracks.

It's ver distinct, and immediately grabs your attention, which is why I described it as very annoying, since it's hard to just ignore it.

It's perfectly fine if you don't want to change anything about it, since it's not a bug but a part of one of the new music scores, but that just means I'll have to keep playing with the sound completely off, and something else in the background.

Combat music playing endlessly is enough of an annoyance on its own, without adding dings and gongs into the mix as well.

I'm not sure which addon does it, but I get multiple dings when certain secondary skills can be fired (spectral bow), or quick-fired (crystal frags). I use Raid Notifier and LUIE, so it is most likely one of those, if you are hearing the sound I think you are. Personally, I find it handy since I don't always know when the skill can be used and hate having to glance at the bar in the middle of a tough fight.

Its not an addon. It has already been firmly confirmed to be new combat music. Please take the effort to at least read a few posts in the thread before replying...

No. There is no need to speculate. It is combat music. Just turn music on and all else off then music off and all else on and you can hear it yourself.

No addon, no proc set. Its part of a new combat music track, so please, stop the speculation.
