A lot of new players dont really care/ havent leant all the mechanics of the game and probably just like the dinosaur.

Tho im pretty sure sorc pets scale solely with max magicka.

I solo often, so I use the clannfear as a tank. the damage is irrelevant to me. Any damage at all is just a bonus.

Clanfear is nice for new players also nice for soloing world bosses and dungeons, it has pretty much no utility in an group.
You don't see them much in dungeons except some low level players in normal, overland they are pretty common.

the scamp is still the better tank. same health and same resists but way better damage.

New players have no idea that physical damage skills should only be used by stamina characters. It's particularly confusing because the Clannfear still uses magicka to summon it. They might have just seen that it cost magicka to summon, and didn't read the rest of the text very closely.

There is no handbook for how to play this game. People have to learn from this forum, pretty much.

Clanfears only use is for the self-heal and max hp bonus for sorc tanks and that is it.

There are sites like https://esoitem.uesp.net/viewSkills.php that do show you what Rank 4 is like when morphed in both selections, something like that needs to be in game as well where you can see the base skill and both Morphs at all times and how they scale. Much of the time you're going in blind for the first time and respecs get expensive after a while.

At best, the Clannfear is the Tank's best partner daedric summon due to the flat percentage healing not demanding any magicka scaling (although a tank sorc will probably want magicka for the shards prison.) The problem is that someone that knows how to heal as a healer should be more than enough to keep a tank okay most of the time. The only scenario I see the Clannfear is notable useful is if only the Tank is left alive and needs to focus on rezzing team mates, Clannfear could distract a basic boss. Tank healing both of them before focusing on a rez.

IMO, Clannfear's ability should be a lil more tank specific (maybe like Shadowrend, it could have a minor maim move as another option over Shadowrend, Heroic slash or Thurvokun)

Now the Twilight Tormentor, though... no idea who uses that. Matriarch is at least a weaker BoL for Sorc Heals. Tormentor should either be an execute (except Mages Fury exists, so) or a new morph could be a smaller Grievous Twilight, perhaps a physical damage aoe based pet to try and appeal to stamsorcs (to contrast V. Familiar's magic focus.)

In my opinion the clannfear could be made attractive for PvP if they would give him some sort of resource draining attack.

Not that the daedric summoning pets need to be in line with their normal counterpart's moves.
There's no hostile Volatile Scamps in the game afaik...

This is actually one of the reasons I don't play my sorc. I want the damn clannfear, but if I want to push more than 15k DPS I need to use the sinfully-ugly scamp.

When I first started playing ESO, I had the idea in my mind that summoning would be similar to older TES games. When you first start, the clanfear looks and reads as if it's better than the alternative. This game's tutorial or lack thereof sucks. Took me months of talking to guildies and other players to even get a decent rotation down. The game makes it seem like once you reach level 50, then you are capable of most content. There is basically no way to know about "weaving" light attacks and such unless someone tells you. Even once you hit cp160, as a new player, it's still very weak for doing lots of content. Then there is the food/drink issue. So many foods, drinks and potions. How is a new player supposed to know which to use, or even if they should.

Just as an example, the other day I qued for a random normal dungeon. Popped into Darkshade Caverns 2 as a healer. One of the DPS was a sorc, cp level 200 something. He had around 12k health, kept drawing all aggro, standing in red and dying. I main a sorc, and wanted to help him. Told him that he should eat some food. Before I could even give him suggestions and offer him some of my food, he started yapping about how "the tank should hold aggro". Then he said, "no food is needed in a normal dungeon", and that I shouldn't pick on him. While he was a bit childish in behavior, it's still a glaring problem of how little instruction the game provides for new players. It's one of the biggest problems with the game. As huge as this game is, it's like a huge wooden frame built in a windy place. Nails are missing everywhere, and pieces keep flying off in the wind.

Clannfears are super cute - in my opinion, the cutest monsters/creatures in this game

They look funny, they sound cute - their footsteps, their idle noises, their battle cries

Before nerfs, more than a year ago, I used to use Clannfear on my mag and stam sorcs as portable tank - he never lost aggro and hardly ever died to bosses or adds. On magsorc I also used Twilight Matriarch as portable healer - so when I went in dungeon alone, I actually went in team of 3

I also used him on stamsorc for some time after One Tamriel; he was my notable companion in my adventures with Dark Brotherhood quests and dailies - it was hilarious to sneak together with Clannfear! And if I was spotted and guard started chasing me, my brave Clannfear risked his life while I successfully run away

Even after pet nerfs (I think it started with Homestead), I still have skill points invested in Clannfear on my stamsorc - sometimes I summon him to kill critters for me, and I feel like a hunter with a hound

Memory of our great adventures together is all that's left :'( Now he is squishy, fails to hold aggro properly, and can't remain in passive state as commanded because after you do heavy attack he starts fighting again.

When I walk in a dungeon "solo" ...

I used the Clannfear a lot as a squishy noob. When you are soloing at low level he can be great. I switch the Twilight Matriarch in if I'm doing a dungeon with no heals or a low level healer who needs a boost, its burst heal isn't to be sneezed at and has kept a group alive more than once. Then the imp of course for damage, with the Necro set you can get some pretty good numbers. I like my pets, they keep me company, never disagree and don't write hate whispers or trash-talk in zone chat

I started a new magicka sorc not long ago, and from the outset, decided I wanted to run petless. The majority of the build is running off the storm caller tree, and its pretty OP. Survivability was an issue until I got Surge unlocked, but now that it is, I have no regrets.

Before the nerfing, I ran Clanny for solo to tank/self-heal, Matriarch or Bound Armor for group. Now, I run Matriarch solo and group. I have the Imp specced, but never use it; I can get bigger numbers on a dummy but in the actual chaos of a fight it's not as good as a flappy healer or screamy tank.

Self-healing's hugely important in solo, and the tanking was very useful, but currently Clanny's not effective. When ZOS un-nerfs him, he'll come back onto my bar.

The Matriarch is really a fantastic small-group or "hey, we're fighting the same thing" healer, minimal effort required and it'll keep one other person alive.

I would hazard to guess that the idea was that someone with a clanfear which is the self-healing morph would couple it with the healing twilight matriarch for... something. Your necromancer-stacked damage shield on the pets would make them pretty survivable. Sorc tank-healer?

How horrible would it be to play a character with two pets slotted on both bars, damage shield, taunt... a tank with damned pets clogging up the entire view while watching for attacks and an ice staff... *shudder*

I might have to try that it annoys me so much to think about.

I use the Clanny purely because I like him, I like the Twilight Matriarch too, some of us don't really care for all this min maxing nonsense and prefer to enjoy the game play and for most content that's perfectly fine.

That being said my pet bar is my back bar and when I want to take care of things in a brusque and business like fashion I swap to my front bar but I enjoy it less than running with the Clanny.

A quick bar swap to unsummon the pets is also handy for when I get to town and then my flappy thing doesn't annoy other players.

The clannfear's attacks deal $1 Physical Damage plus an additional 30%. $1 = 0.030015 Magicka + 6.5e-06 SD - 0.852602 (Magicka, R2 = 0.999999, ratio = 0.00)

So AFAIK it´s not really a stamina morph.

I´ve used it for the heal, not the damage. You dont have to minmax everything. Also, really, the only difference would be that you dont have a boost to physical damage, which is, how much of a loss, really? 0.27%?

Also TBH I didnt even remember it did physical damage, when I saw this topic. Might be because I detest pets in general when I play, bear being the exception.

Clannfear would be great for sorc tanks if the cost was in-line with Green Blood, the DK equivalent. Instead, it's something like 7k Magica per squeeze.
