Why is fishing not more popular?

Fishing is the most boring part of the game imo.
You can't even watch a tv show next to it because you are forced to keep track on that pulsating dot to catch the fish.
And if an action in a video game makes you think about watching some tv series, it really is a boring thing.

If you're on console...yes. PC has an add-on which allows me to read or knit or whatever and not miss the "reel in".

I either spend the last half hour of an evening fishing to wind down or fish as I come across fishing holes whilst doing other things. Then again, I'm always bemused by people who stand around (or jump around) at wayshrines and the like. That, to me, is booorrrrrring.

    To each their own! :)

    how to fish...

lay in a selection of your favourite beverages, maybe roll a few.

map out the areas you intend to fish.

boot up the other rig and find a good film to watch....

    enjoy.

    don't mention it.

Exactly. When I’m out of Netflix to watch, I’m not fishing. I’ll probably get back into fishing in a month or so. We’ll see what comes out.

Copy WoW? Make a fishing tournament once a week?

TESO needs a wardrobe system badly. Something similar to WoW's tmog system would make this game one of the best mmorpg out there!

Fishing doesnt make gold or experience. Fishing is for only perfect roe and drop rate is extremely low for time spent.

    ESO fishing gives me nightmares.

Once is enough. Master Angler was brutal. :)

Not hard, but soooooo boring. I was watching Netflix and YouTube more than anything while doing it.
  • mike_skleinub17_ESO
I have one blue left on my main in Glenumbra. Been trying off and on for a few months. I have 1 or two left in most of the main areas, but working on them one region at a time. My sorc who was doing dolmens for fighters guild tried fishing for the first time while waiting for the dolmen furthest up the map to spawn...got the blue, alone, on the third cast.

If rares were transferable it might be more popular. If rares were sellable in traders it would be uber popular. But then the tedium of the grind would go away.

If they changed the drop rate on the roe then its even MORE tedious. Couple years ago when I was doing it in earnest I got enough Roe to make 200 potions. I'm still using them on my sorc to level. Had plenty for two other characters to go 3 to 50 in a few days.
  • Damien_Uvirith
Fishing is without a doubt the most boring part of ESO. You don't get anything out of it besides the small chance for a Perfect Roe, and even then that's 10k gold for how much time? You're time would be much better spent farming legitimately any other mat for decon.

The Place by Tony Walsh Please Read
This is the place in the North West of England

It’s ace, it’s the best and the songs that we sing

From the stands, from our bands set the whole planet shaking

Our inventions are legends! There’s nowt we can’t make and

So we make brilliant music. We make brilliant bands

We make goals that make souls leap from seats in the stands

And we make things from steel and we make things from cotton

And we make people laugh, take the mick summat rotten

And we make you at home and we make you feel welcome

And we make summat happen, we can’t seem to help it

And if you’re looking for history then yes, we’ve a wealth

But the Manchester way is to make it yourself

And make us a record, a new number one

And make us a brew while you’re up, love. Go on!

And make us feel proud that you’re winning the league

And make us sing louder and make us believe it

that this is the place that has helped shape the world

And that this the place where a Manchester girl

Name of Emmeline Pankhurst from the streets of Moss Side

Led a Suffragette City with sisterhood pride

And this is the place with appliance of science

We’re on it, atomic, we strut with defiance

In the face of a challenge we always stand tall

Mancunians in union delivered it all

Such as housing and libraries, and health, education

And unions and co-ops, the first railway station

So we’re sorry! Bear with us! We invented commuters!

But we hope you forgive us – we invented computers!

And this is the place Henry Royce strolled with Rolls

And we’ve rocked and we’ve rolled with our own Northern Soul

And so this is the place to do business, then dance

Where go-getters and goal setters know they’ve a chance

And this is the place where we first played as kids

And me Mam lived and died here, she loved it she did

And this is the place where our folks came to work

Where they struggled in puddles, they hurt in the dirt

And they built us a city. They built us these towns

And they coughed on the cobbles to the deafening sound

Of the steaming machines and the screaming of slaves

They were scheming for greatness, they dreamed to their graves

And they left us a spirit, they left us a vibe

The Mancunian Way to survive and to thrive

And to work and to build, to connect and create and

Greater Manchester’s greatness is keeping it great

And so this is the place now we’ve kids of our own

Some are born here, some drawn here but we all call it home

And they’ve covered the cobbles, but they’ll never defeat

All the dreamers and schemers who still teem through these streets

Because this is a place that has been through some hard times

Oppressions, recessions, depressions and dark times

But we keep fighting back with Greater Manchester spirit

Northern grit, northern wit in Greater Manchester’s lyrics

And there’s hard times again in these streets of our city

But we won’t take defeat and we don’t want your pity

Because this a place where we stand strong together

With a smile on our face, Mancunians Forever

And we’ve got this* as the place where a team with a dream (*Forever Manchester)

Can get funding and something to help with their scheme

Because this is the place that understands your grand plans

We don’t do No Can Do, we just stress Yes We Can!

Forever Manchester’s a charity for people round ‘ere

You can fundraise, donate. You can be a volunteer

You can live local, give local. We can honestly say

We do charity differently, that Mancunian Way

And we fund local kids, and we fund local teams

We support local dreamers to work for their dreams

We support local groups and the great work they do

So can you …help us help… local people like you?

Because this is the place in our hearts, in our homes

Because this is the place that’s a part of our bones

‘Cos Greater Manchester gives us such strength from the fact

That this is the place. We should give something back.

Always remember. Never forget. Forever Manchester.

I don't know what it is about ESO fishing. I had several maxed-out Master fishers in WoW (won the tournament multiple times, got the rare catches, achievements, etc). I've fished up a storm in all sorts of JRPGs over the years (Dark Cloud, Nier/Nier 2, FF15, etc)

And I really really would like that boat to stick next to the dock I built in Hundings Palatial Hall.

But I just can't work up the stubbornness to fish much here. Not sure why. :/

A few things I would like to see that fishing had in other games I have played.

Have a daily quest or 2 for fishing. Catch x amount fish at y location or something similar. Give a decent reward for completion and maybe a bonus if you return with a rare fish.

Trophies. Catch a trophy fish and if you want take it to a taxidermist and for a small fee you will have a mounted fish for your house.

Just a couple ideas I think would add a lot to fishing in ESO.

Despite all of its other issues, fishing in Vanguard SoH is something I actually miss. It was a system that was basically its own mini-game. You could see the fish, cast to specific ones, actually had to 'fight' the fish to catch it, etc.

Fishing just isn't that diverse in this game. All you get from it is the occasional single crafting mat (wet gunny sacks), a less than 1% chance at perfect roe, and the rest is just achievements or fish for filleting. Sure, they added a couple of furnishings to it too, but even so, it is simply too tedious and time consuming for very little reward.

What? You know you can sell fish on Guild Store, right?

And it's better than to play RNG with Perfect Roe.

Fishing is mind-numbing in ESO. There is zero skill factor involved.

Select bait. Hit a button. If something happens, hit the button again.

I'd vote for a mini-game like Vanguard's, where you have to work the fish in by reacting to what it is doing.

Yeah a few things could make it better.

Sunken chests (different rarity) - White = simple chest etc... They could basically act like usual open world chests with a chance to get zone appropiate gear from them.

Lost lockboxes - Again different tiers , have gold in, treasure maps , lockpics, higher chance of getting rare motif's?

Gold tier fish - Every fishing spot has a chance to catch a gold tier fish which has 2 perfect roe in? Make it like a 1 in 300 chance or something to catch it.

Chance to pull up some alchemy mats such a nirnroot or water hyciath when you get a fish.

    Just a few things.

I am an angler who tries to get achievement in PC/ EU. Your ideas are good and indeed would increase the number of players who would fish except last one. When you are fishing you basically spent a lot of time by waters where nirnroot and water hyciath grows. I already currently have 1k+ for each of those. So when you are fishing you get to get those herbs quickly even without any change .

It's the same reason why I don't do crafting (I'm max CP and have zero motifs unlocked, other than the ones I use for my outfit, and I'm only crafting level 6 on destro staves).

Housing is my go-to side fun.

Fishing makes me feel guilty for playing a video game. Been playing these type of games since EQ1. I understand they are a time waster .... but I have fun and it's a cheap hobby. When I try fishing it magnifies that I am wasting time.

    Likely doesn't make sense
