Why is fishing not more popular?

Totally understand. I am constantly bemused by people standing around wayshrines, running in circles, hopping around like weasels on crack etc. But hey! They're having fun and that's what counts.

copying pokemon fishing without the battle at the end is not fun.

I have played several games that had fishing that was fun, ESO is NOT one of them.

the original jack and daxter had a fun fishing mini-game, even warframe (a diablo like shooter) has a fun fishing system (this is a shooter can you fathom how it did better then a TES game?!)

I have tried, and fall asleep EVERY TIME.

create an actual fun mini game, that possibly requires some skill to get better rewards, reward more and better fish per attempt, and do that all without putting the person fishing to sleep.

PS, when I talk to people that fish and ask them how they do it, and there response is "read a book while you fish" you FAIL as a game.

i don't pay very much attention. i think i'm about halfway to the title so i have a system. i turn my controller's vibration down about halfway (to save battery, because fishing devours batteries) and rest my non-dominant hand on the controller, with fingers on the buttons. when it does the right vibration, i hit buttons. my other hand is free to manage my various substance-vices and the tablet that i read while i fish, as well as remotes for the other televisions. i sometimes glance up for a moment to see what i caught, but that's not usually necessary unless i'm almost done with a group. when the controller doesn't vibrate anymore, jog to the next hole.

I've put ESO on my laptop which only just runs it, I can now fish while watching TV so no longer boring

For many of the same reasons fishing IRL is not very popular. All you do is sit in the middle of a lake on a boat drinking beer.

I have to agree on two fronts, the nerf in Perfect Roe drop rates, and with the continuing additions, while great for the game, make gaining the title dang bear impossible at the current catch rate.

Master Angler was incredibly frustrating, boring and grindy. I don’t recommend it to be honest. I did most of it solo too.

Selling stacks of raw fish sold very fast. So it can be profitable.

Fish in BDO then fish in this game. There is no depth. Even Stardew Valley's fishing is more interesting. You can't go out into the open seas and fish, you can't upgrade fishing poles or make your own fishing boat. No mini-game or anything. It just feels unrewarding.

Just as a reply to the OP... many things, you can't even make different rods. I'd like auto fishing, more fishing spots, rare spots etc.

The balance between "mind-numbing boredom" and "hope of obtaining a perfect roe" is weighted heavily in favor of "mind numbing boredom."

The 'furnishing' items you can obtain while fishing are bland, very bland indeed!

Wet gunny sacks have nothing of interest IMO and I generally delete them (without opening them)

I've only done fishing so far for the dyes. I more or less only fish when I have reading assignments or podcasts to listen to, otherwise the amount of "attention" it requires (can't move/tab out to watch videos/look at other menus) isn't worth it.

i think you'd have to make these mini games per se more fun to do to make them more attractive - outside of getting the achievement they are boring....but yeah, add more minigame - gw2 for example have races that are really fun to do...but it needs to be fun to do all by itself

Lots of awesome ideas for fishing have been put forth but it..I assume..will never be a priority to zos

Fishing is a state of mind both in game and in real life. It's more than just the activity of casting a line and reeling in the catch -- it's about spending your time doing something you like. It's about solitude with nature if you're solo, or enjoying a beer and a TV show if that suits you, or yakking it up with friends as you all participate in the same activity (gaming included).

Fishing for the express purpose of the achievements or the perfect roe is fine, but it isn't what it's all about. It's about slowing down the pace and enjoying the process, rather than racing to the finish line.

It's dreadfully boring even with friends... I wanna shot myself every time I do it. And the RNG rates on the fish are horrendously terrible it makes makes want to cry because some human was cruel enough to implement this stupid thing to begin with even though it gives no one anything but pain

I've done alot of fishing in eso, i enjoy it when paired with binge watching tv shows and youtube/twitch etc. I do agree though that the rewards from fishing is very lackluster. Besides perfect roe, the rare kuta from the gunny sacks, and the small amount of gold for selling the throphy fish to a vendor, it's not really that much to be gained from the activity.

I don't think they ever will, but i would love it if Zos would add a unique texture to every single achivement fish and allow us to display them inside our homes, like the undaunted busts!

Lets say we implement this. And I decide one day to spec my main character as healer, and while I wait for my dungeon / trial pug to happen, I go fishing, and a dragon pops up...I would be so screwed. So I have to vote no on this one, altho its a good idea.

My guess is because ESO hasnt seen much genuine developement in years. If you want devs that support game systems such as fishing you should have a look at FFXIV.

Was a time before I made multiple chars or joined a guild that I quite liked logging on my main for a couple of hours in the evening, playing music & just potter about fishing. But now have limited time on game and get pulled to doing other things. And it's the time it takes that can be frustrating - wish they would speed up the cast/reel in time as that can drag badly.

But will get the title one day.

I actually caught a "furnishing" fish the very first time I fished in Vvardenfell. It's now sitting on a plate in my characters home.

I guess it's because it's such a tedious thing. And requires a ton of patience, especially if you're going for Master Angler. And even then, there's no real incentive to fish. It's just something to do to pass the time. And it's a nice thing to do if you're roleplaying.
