Why is fishing not more popular?

I like it in small doses-- except you're not really allowed small doses if you're not going to be a mostly-ruined-fishing-hole-abandoning jerk. It takes too long to use up a fishing hole-- ten minutes or more. I like short breaks in the game, say three to five minutes. Enough time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and finish one of the zone's musical pieces. Any longer and it becomes tedious and a bit of a chore.

It only helps you get more rare fish. If you just need plain fish for roe, it can be a detriment, and the fishing spot runs out faster.

I don't ask first, but if someone says they want to solo the spot I move on.

I didn't think of that. Good point. Thought most were doing it for the trophies, but I guess someone could grind at fishing to get perfect roe. [Shudder] How boring.

Most people consider it boring in real life. So why would that not be more boring in a video game where you can use magic and fight monsters?

Fishing is boring in ESO. It's not interactive, and doesn't require much thought. Every other game that has fishing has done it better than this game (i.e. Monster Hunter, Zelda, Far Cry, Final Fantasy 15, etc.)

I enjoy fishing in other games, but not in ESO.

    I don't think I've ever answered this directly: I don't like fishing.

I don't mean fishing in ESO. I mean, I don't like fishing in any context. Maybe this stems from a traumatic incident as a kid involving a fish hook, and I've never really looked back. But, I don't find fishing fun. Not even when it's a more developed system. ESO's fine, but I don't like doing it. It's not boredom, it's not a systemic problem, it's a fishing problem.

the achievement seems daunting and when you realize it only counts if you do it all on one character it feels like your doing nothing while fishing on the characters you have that haven't caught of the rare fish on.

It is really boring and non-interactive. Just sitting and waiting. Should be called SITIN'-AND-WAITIN' MAN.

If there was more of an active engagement to it like with the way Warframe does it or if I can go waaaaay back to the old Playstation 1 game Breath of Fire III, that was a pretty fun fishing mechanic. Even Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time's fishing was engaging and suspenseful when you caught a big one.

Personally I dunno why its so boring for others. I find it super relaxing and quite fun to fish on my own and see how long it takes me to get my next Master Angler title.

I do a, fun for me, self challenge where I don't allow myself to filet a single fish until I have the title then I see how many normal fish I collected and then finally how many Roe that big pile of fish nets me.

    My current records are:
    9,365 fish - 107 Perfect Roe (Ma'at the Just)
    ---
8,541 fish - 90 Perfect Roe (Imarae Aelsonius)
    ---
8,174 fish - 73 Perfect Roe (Gabriel Dumont)

I didn't record my other three because I only started doing my self challenge with the last three, soon to be four alts. OwO

I even sometimes delete alts with the title just so I can do it again. xD But then my friends all tell me I'm a weirdo. >-<

I think it needs to have a chance to hook something evil lurking in the water and pull out a random world boss who kicks your butt and chases you all over the map until you get some allies to take it down, drops perfect roe in defeat. Would add a bit of excitement.

It's also difficult to fish in the dlc zones when you know for a fact no rare fish will count towards the fishing achievement I think that's a bummer

If only monster helms and shoulders could be fished...

I fish sometimes. My real life routine is to fire up pc and stay logged in intent on playing all night after work. But since my PCs is in living room in the back it’s easy to sit there next to it, but I’m contstantly distracted by convo with my gf or what she’s watching on TV. I’m already moving a little bit every few minutes so I don’t get idled off. I usually fish during these times if I think about it. But lately I think I’ll go stand over resource nodes in starter areas to troll the bot hunters. ;) I kid. I’m not in the foul mood I was in yesterday.

Edit: fishing is actually good money if you stick with it. Fish and the rare items and bottles are valuable.

Echoing most people in this thread, but I find fishing tedious and boring. Ultimately I want to get the achievements on my main, but the notion of fishing for an extended period of time makes me want to quit.. So unless I get a second monitor for something to watch while grinding, I don't think it will happen any time soon. I really don't understand the appeal, there are much better ways to make gold. I have a lot of respect for all those Master Anglers out there!

I think... Players that have caught the rare fish should be able to displays those fish an aquarium in their homes... That would be awesome.

An for an April Fools joke, how about an annimation that shows players catching old rubber boots when the fish gets away.

The only time I have found fishing exciting was when I was fishing in Cyrodil or the Imperial City... Always feels a bit risky in those PVP areas.

I love fishing in RL but fishing in this game literally makes me fall asleep in front of the screen even in the middle of the day, so boring and time consuming with very little reward.

I finished my Master Angler recently, took me about 2 weeks of fishing (with food buff only on DC area as I had poor poor luck there, mostly solo - have been helped in 3 zones only). I can understand why people think it is boring, while I did fish my achiev I made beforehand a huge playlist of songs I love and know and while I did go fishing I was singing all of them - no matter what voice you have it lets you keep being sane (or so voices in my head said so...). Fishing takes a lot of patience and dedication - not all players have that, on my days off I managed to fish 4-8h per day with breaks for toilet, food and stuff.

Also whoever claims it is not worth it - I bought whole Telvanni furnishing blueprints (every single one) for gold from Perfect Roe selling so it can give you steady flow of income if you are lucky with filleting.

TBH I do not want to make it more popular - I like to have a fishhole ready wherever I go, I find it annoying a fishhole dries after 12-15 pulls, and I think that is the worst enemy of it being interesting - 2 ocean holes for the whole cyrodil is insane for example, other example is how I could pull some achiev fishes 17 times each before I could finally pull the blue quality achiev fish I needed... Take a look at my fishing idea for housing, you may find it interesting and it would be nice solution.

I like fishing. It's what I do when I am...
    1. Waiting (for anything game related)
    2. Bored (aka.. unsure what to do)
    3. Want to fish (I fish more often because I want to fish. It's relaxing.)

Sometimes another player stops and fishes with me. Occasionally another player emotes in the fishing hole (dancing or something).

As far as rewards go, I have all the seaweed I will ever need, so I prefer to fish in summerset if I am fishing for rewards.

That said, I have no ideas to make fishing more rewarding and yield the topic to everyone else.

Its very of boring, I only ever fish when Im waiting for something in-game related like a dungeon or battleground for example, I once tried farming perfect roe for a week and just got 2, i have never gotten another one. Its a time-consuming and boring activity, I think fishing need to be more profitable in terms of in game gold if you wanna make it more popular.

Fishing in this game is boring, 1 click to throw, 1 to reel, rng. Some maniacs love it but something is wrong with them.

Actually what would make fishing more popular is a skill line and daily quests and pump even more the rewards you get to be mindlessly clicking.
