Now that transmutation stones are a thing in the game and we no longer have to grind for months and months, do you think it's time the gear level should rise from 160 to something higher?

for me I say yes it's been 160 for a long time now and it'd be nice to have to collect gear again for something to do.

Since everything scales in ESO, I see zero reason to make us farm new mats and or farm more trans crystals to "upgrade" 160 gear. This is a waste of time and effort for both the programmers and the players. They should be focused on giving us an even better game playing experience over giving us another meaningless task to do.

Gear grind is absolutely pointless wit a game that scales everything. In the long run numbers are bigger but for no reason if every enemy is scaled to ur new numbers anyway. Yup pointless.

As I have probably explained about a dozen times by now, gear change won't actually make you stronger because of how the game scales. You will have exactly the same stats as now wearing the new level gear, just your old gear will become weaker. It will still be a grind to get new ones since you can change traits but not the items themselves (ex. you can't transmute a pair of pants into a belt or a healing staff into an inferno one), and it will be an utterly pointless one.

transmute options on traits has nothing to do with raising the gear cap.

Plus, whats the point? Raise the gear cap to make you stronger.... so they can just nerf you later because of power creep and/or just add more health to everything you fight against now? We haven't seen that before have we....

Unless they change the way mobs scale with the character since One Tamriel this would be a terrible idea. Our characters would get weaker and nerfed overnight while forcing us to grind out new gear for every character just to get back to the same strength we were with 160 gear. This would be one of the worst possible things they could do for the game and would cause myself and many others to cancel our subs and quit the game entirely.

I don’t really see the point to raising the gear cap. The grind would just be more busy-work.

Besides, just being at 160 confuses people in vet dungeons lol. People think level 50 means “max level” and try to do vets way before they’re geared enough to handle it, already.

If anything, the gear cap should have been level 50, not CP 160...

Meh, no thank you. Not willing to grind out a bunch of sets again (and then transmutation stones, too). Would rather more ‘sideways’ progression.

The main reason why I play ESO is that you don't have to regrind everything when a patch/chapter/whatever gets landed because they raised a level cap or something.

I fail to see what one has to do with the other. I dont want to sound like naysayer, but I feel like the end game community is in a rather precarious spot at the moment. This could be the proverbial straw that breaks the guar's back, so to speak.

Honestly, if they were going to do anything with gear level caps, that should just eliminate everything from CP1-150 and just call everything "Champion Gear". Eliminate the artificial grind post level 50 for new players. It really serves no purpose.

The only thing raising the gear cap will do is force a regrind of old content. Unless they scaled all CP 160 gear to the new cap, or somehow made it really easy to do in game, a lot of players, myself included, would throw in the towel. No way I am regrinding VMA/DSA/Craglorn trials again.

For the way the leveling works in ESO, raising the cap doesn't equal raising the height of the ceiling, instead is the same as lowering the floor for all other gears while the new tier would occupy the exact same point of the current cap... there's absolutely no point.

It would be a pointless nuisance. The people who can afford to be geared up will gear up again, those who can't (or just barely got their 160 gear together) won't. Still.

Absolutely not. I'm of the opinion that levels should be removed entirely, with the focus exclusively being gear; everyone gets leveled to 50 CP 0 (so levels are essentially just minor buffs), and increase the amount of resources required to upgrade.

It essentially shifts the grinding from levels to gear upgrades, but I believe that would make lower the barrier for entry for new players, whilst still having a substantial difference between them and the progressed players.

LOL not sure why anyone would want to re-grind the same gear in the same content just to reach the same power level as today with the only difference being higher numbers on everything (but percentage wise the same).

I guess some people either don't understand the scaling system in place or just have way too much time on their hands.

Absolutely not. The game doesn't need any more grinding. If anything, the gear cap should be streamlined to 50 (Using the current cp160 numbers). CP gear below 160 is completely useless to any player who has leveled at least one character to cp160 as the levels are skipped. 50 is a much nicer number and it makes sense based on the current leveling system.

It's basically pointless, because of the scaling system introduced with one tamriel. Yes, we players might become stronger, but enemies would also be stronger.

I hate that the majority don't want something like this. I'm not sure if raising it to 200, or something would work. But I find the funnest part of an mmo is endless gear progression. In this game once you get BiS gear, that's it, your done until something gets nerfed. There's nothing to do at end game except the same content for no reward

I think gear levels should have been removed with One Tamriel but they weren't. I don't see the point in new levels as that would only mean mobs would need a buff and then the current buff for low level players would need to be increased as well.

It wouldn't upset me if they did increase, but like I said, I just don't see a reason.

i would instead want them to make more sets viable to use. Balance them up so everyone doesnt have to run the same things. There are a lot of intresting sets out there but they dont really perform that good at all. Then we would still have something to chase after instead of just having to creep up on the next lvl of the exact same gear.

What would be the point?

We have so many different sets already. Upping the gear level would result in collecting the same stuff again, only to have new players grind even longer to get to gear level cap.

Scaling would mean that either we have the exact same relative power level as before (so upping cap is useless) or we have even more power creep.

They already have issues with devising new stuff, as apparent with the low amount of new sets coming in. Balancing this mess is already a nightmare, with all the possible combinations.

Going back to where we were before One Tamriel and gear scaling, having 100s of sets during levelling and only a couple at cap, would mean we lose whatever diversity we have right now.

All in all, I would say, increasing the cap not only has no use, it would actually be very detrimental, for existing players, for new players and for build diversity.

PvP is the real end-game.

Farming gear is one of the least fun things about this game. The only things less fun might be inventory management and doing surveys.

Maybe you would be ok being stuck on a treadmill forever but the rest of us do not want to be.
