Which gender do you choose to play in-game and why?

Both. Gender in a fictional environment does not matter to me. I make whatever my fancy takes at the time of creation. I've made almost a complete male character just to roll it back at the last stage and re-do as a female because it's what I was into at the time. It has no political, stereotypical or sexist or whatever "deep" reasons.
It's just a bit of fun and it really doesn't bother me what curves or reproductive organs the pixels in front of me have.

For the sake of immersion, I do both. But I'm a tiny bit "sexist" here. I at least originally made my female toons healers/magsorcs, and my male ones stamina oriented. Now, some of these have changed considerably. I do however favor female ones, not so much because I identify as a woman or anything like that - but because I enjoy watching the backside of a woman far more than I do watching men. LOL

Usually I play males, for it is easier for me to identify with them. The one exception so far is my Argonian. If I remember well, female Argonians become females because they ingest more Hist sap than their male counterparts, and I manted her to be a Magic user, so it kind of made sense, in my mind, to have her enjoy a stronger connection with the Hist. (I don't remember the source for the emergence of sexual features among Argonians, though. :-s)

Sometimes I play female characters with big boobs and butt because it looks nice. Other times I play as male and give them huge muscles because that is also fun. Sometimes I create really ugly characters, but that is beyond the scope of your question I think.

Only one of my ten characters is male.

I like choosing females for several reasons. Firstly, I am a female RL, and I like seeing female heroes, as well as being able to identify on that very basic level.

Secondly, I think the in-game models for women are more attractive than the male ones. If I am going to spend 3+ hours staring at a butt, it should be one I like.

I also like the female voices better.

Whenever possible in any game I choose to be represented by a female hero. It's nice to be represented.

Back in the time when my friends and I used to play asiatic free to play mmos, we would choose 80% of the time to play as a female character. Male character in these games were too ugly.

When I got money to play p2p games (american/european games), I would always choose male characters because the immersion is way superior (I like to character myself or something close).

This or I just got older and got tired of playing sexy characters

main, was first highelf female, just because they are the hottest (together with bosmer), so it was nice to look at a pretty female char, while playing, I switched her to redguard then, for better racials for her role, she is also pretty.

second char, now my main, khajiit, also female, just because it came to my mind to create a female khajiit

The first time I chose female was probably KotOR but I preferred the NPC interaction with male characters.

I got stuck on females with Skyrim because Lucan Valerius had so much more gold for a female with maxed speech.

male, no reason honestly. Guess i would argue i like how the heavy armor looks a bit bulkier on most male characters and i like that look more?
