One day shooters like Battlefield will finally realize there are lots of gamers who would like to play female toons....20+ years after MMOs figured that basic fact out.

They know, but Female Models dont grow on Trees

With the amount of art assets EA has for that engine spread out over a zillion games, they might not grow on trees, but they're hardly the titanic labor some seem to think it would be.

But, putting that aside, I'm pretty sure Battlefield's devs are on record saying the reason was because they didn't think players wanted to play as women.

Still, we're getting a bit off topic, so we'll just agree to disagree.

I was actually impressed by the even split of boob plate versus woman armor. I really don't like boob plate which is why I normally don't play females in MMOs, but I think its important for those who do to be able to express that. Now for costumes, I would love to see sluttier men costumes and more conservative women's to make it more even :D I have 2 female characters and 8 males, soon to be 4/10. I am female IRL. I like some of my men slutty and some more masculine, same goes with the females. I know a lot of my guild mates feel the same, in particular, my favorite is my friend's slight bodied argonian male who enjoys dresses and skirts but still struts some nice manly horns.

cos I am one and also I just don't like playing as males. Sometimes I try but that usually ends in me deleting the character and starting again XD

I usually played female in other games because armors are better looking for them, but in ESO most armors are just plain ugly regardless who's wearing them. I just continued playing females out of habit.

In beta I had my male orc, Biggrin and my fem sorc, Tarja (yes from Nightwish). Surprisingly, modelling her face in ESO was fairly easy. Currently I have 3 male chars I regularly play and 2 fem. Didn't remake any chars I had from beta but pulled from other media. Some movie characters, one mother of dragons, and an image pulled out of a Luis Royo painting. So it's just whatever image is stuck in my head that I want to use in game.

Games are not about making a mini-me. There are a lot of factors I take into consideration when creating a character, including race, class, armour choices, what they look like, how I want to play that character.

Male so far just because all my toons are role-playing expies and I don't have very many major female rp characters and I only get a small number of character slots so the guys get priority.

Nine characters, all female. Five mains - a Stam Sorc, two Nightblades, and two Tanks.

Yeah, I'm a guy. And at 62, one of the older folks playing the game. I play female because I like the characters. I tell my guild mates that they're kind of women I like in real life - strong, smart and deadly.

I'll be playing my AD tank in Cyrodiil this weekend - PS4/NA. If you're a red or blue in Scourge, feel free to look me up; her name is Glory Violence, a tank that kills.

You know it's crazy, my wife made a orc version of herself....it's amazing what you can do with the Character creator if you take your time and a have a bit of talent....me I look like a much sleazier version of Aaron Stanford in 12 Monkeys, definitely wasn't what I was going for.

    But really who cares ...
I don't see what's wrong with that reasoning? You understand it's a very valid reason and usually the reason why a man plays a female character, if he does not RP?

Unless you think that implies you, by playing a male character and inevitably looking at a male's butt are less masculine? I don't see that implication personally.

I'm more annoyed by the whole "I'm a guy so I play a male character because I don't secretly want to be a girl." Like WTH.

My main is female. She just sort of turned out to be the one I enjoy playing the most.

I've never understood people who have no problem playing a humanoid cat or a tall golden-skinned racist who shoots fireballs from his fingers and calls down lightning by waving a stick but balk at the idea of playing someone who has a hoo-ha instead of a peepee.

Something I'm always curious about when these topics come up: All the people who say you only play your own gender, because you don't want to pretend to be someone else or you find it hard to immerse yourself in the character if they're different to you or whatever - does that mean you also only make human characters? Never turn them into a werewolf or vampire? And you don't use any magic or supernatural abilities?

Because I'm guessing you're human in real life and you're not able to perform any type of magic (except the sleight of hand type maybe).

It seems strange to me, coming at it from the 'opposite' perspective, that none of that seems to bother anyone. No one finds it weird that I play a humanoid cat who can shoot fireballs from their hands. But if I'm female and that magic-cat is male? Woah! That's so weird and crazy!

re: the various "because I don't pretend/fantasize/whatever being a girl" answers...

So do you not read books with female character perspectives because you don't want to be a girl? Or don't move the queen in chess? Or watch movies with female protagonists?

Eh, I suppose it's just the age-old split between players who picture themselves as the character they're playing, and those who see themselves as an observer of the character they're playing. (Like I mentioned earlier, I am not my character - it is a character in a story/movie/etc that I'm sending it through. A game piece on a board. As you might imagine, I'm not much of an "RPer" :# I don't really believe in that "immersion" thing, either.)

I play a male character (as I am male) in RPG's about 99.9% of the time because I like to portray myself in each of these fantastical universes.

There was this one time when I played as a female character in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic because I was able to get her to look EXACTLY like Lara Croft and I was pretty proud of myself.

To each their own though! As long as you're having fun.

I play Argonians, which don't have a lot of sexual dimorphism to begin with, unless you really crank that chest slider. But pretty much what most said. Create a concept for a character, make it based on that. It doesn't need to be an RP thing, it can just be an aesthetic thing.

People who can't get 'immersed' in a character if they don't have the same reproductive organs are silly. The human (or lizardman) condition is something that can be universally understood.
