I could've sworn Nirnroot had a subtle glow (not the keen eye glow), but if that's actually why then FACEPALM.

Nirnroot does glow without keen eye passive.

That effect is probably one of the the very last things to load, so if you recently ported in, or just crossed into a new chunk, or your instance is especially busy maybe it doesn't load? Just guessing.

While the OP does have Keen Eye on, this isn't the cause of the difference.

I have often run across Nirnroot on characters with no Keen Eye and sometimes they emit that greenish glow while others are dull. I first thought this was perhaps distance from water until I saw a very dull (zero glow) Nirnroot right next to the water so I dismissed that thought.

I, too, would like to know why some glow and some do not. Is there something in the lore, perhaps, that causes some to miss their glowiness?

It's a bug that I think started when they changed the Keen Eye animation. Probably some conflict with Nirnroot's innate glow.

Personally, I've noticed this for a long time and have found it to be more problematic in some zones than others. I think it is affected by ambient lighting effects but I could be mistaken. The same is true for spotting any node though, however, depending on the zone. Rubedite is easy to spot in almost every zone (we're all classically conditioned to see it, after all), but spotting it in Coldharbor is a pain - but Nirnroot is an easy one to see there.

Why Nirnroot glows and is able to be spotted from miles away in some locations while barely noticeable (aside from the faint chiming tune it plays when you get close to it at other times) is a mystery to me. I've always just sorta let it go though and figured it was related to lag or latency or something.

At least Nirnroot has a known/consistent spawn location (near water) so it's not as problematic as some of the other things encountered while gathering/harvesting.

Lighting effects in ESO are odd. The glowing crystals sold by the luxury vendor a few weeks back are a good example. From far away they are BRIGHT but have no real detail to them, and when you get closer to them they "fill out" their individual textures and the crystalline exterior is visible - but the brightness seems to dim significantly. I would say the Nirnroot falls into the same category in some way because they have a similar, interior, brightly emanating, blue-white light.

I've seen the dull Nirnroots quite often during day - they are coloured the same as Wormwood.

The glow, however, is both day and night - albeit easier to spot during nighttime cycles.

The keen eye glow is missing when the node is empty. I often see this with empty enchanting nodes that stick around after somebody has collected them. I'm not sure how this is possible, but I try to gather it and it just disappears when the loot window should open and every time it is missing the keen eye glow.

Some Nirnroots are happy. Some Nirnroots are sad. Some Nirnroots become vampires and they turn red and they live down in Blackreach in complete darkness. Who knows? Who cares? I know who, it's Sinderion!

I hadn't thought about it before, but there have been some lighting "issues" going on in game as well. Perhaps it's the same cause. For instance some of my lighting in home doesn't display the flames even though it is turned on and has a glow around the area indicating a light source. Also my skyshards don't always have their beam, again even when on.

In this video you can see the what I mean, and to fix I have to turn off the fixtures then turn them back on.

Not sure if it's perhaps my video settings, but I would think all of them would be affected and not just a few here and there.
