It's Time To Have A Serious Talk About Cyrodiil

I agree with a few pf the comments here. ZOS is in the business of making money and before they'll commit to putting money into something, they want to know where the return is coming from. Because of this, I don't think Cyrodiil will get a lot of love.

The only change I see to reduce zerging, apart from making close quarter combat difficult with tighter spaces, would be to reduce the maximum group sizes - but that would just lead to more groups running together.

Agree that removing the additional campaigns would help get people into the same campaigns, instead of finding a campaign where things are 'in your favour' to simply go and earn AP in.

I have always been in favour of higher bonuses for keep defence, to encourage people to want to defend. I saw some really high defence bonuses during the last double AP event and some remarkable keep battles. Taking a largely undefended keep guarantees are far quicker fight and easier AP then bothering to defend one.

A Cyrodiil 2.0 is also a nice idea.

We should be discussing ways to get casual players and PvE players who already enjoy the game to give PvP a shot and then retain them.

We should be asking ourselves what about the rest of the game PvEers and casuals enjoy, and how we can incorporate those incentives and reward systems into PvP.

I disagree. The PC audience for PVP games is massive. ZOS should stop trying to make PVP appealing to casual PVE players and instead make ESO PVP attractive to gamers who enjoy PVP. If you build it, they will come.

That would require much more work (time and money) than ZOS is willing to put into PvP -- essentially building a new game as a revenue stream. Let's stick to feasible solutions.

Also why not create new PvPers out of everyone else? We're all people. I don't believe there is a finite portion of the population which is incapable of enjoying PvP play.

That they can't be bothered to close the two extraneous 7 day campaigns tells you exactly how much care and consideration is placed on Cyrodiil PVP atm.

I don't think that's an oversight. PVDoor going on somewhere else takes the population pressure off Vivec.

Related: "Former Emperor" now rates right up there with "Daedric Lord Slayer"

I think they are keeping those campaigns open until they can fix the bugged perma-emp title.

Solo players and small groups need more communication with their alliance than zone chat. The only visual ques we have is the map,

What if on the map you could select where you were headed, like a checkbox, either attack or defend. This would prevent a whole alliance from going to the same keep when they see it flagged, and create greater strategy, and less lag. If you could see 100 people were heading to attack brk and a home keep was being taken with only 8 defenders, you'd be much more likely to go defend, for a better fight.

People would still zerg but at least there would be another option.
I don't normally use daggers, but when I do, I choose dos Lekis.

It's not that easy IMO. It's not hard to understand why some PVE raiders might get into PVP, even if they haven't PVP'd before. They're generally mechanically strong, understand how to build characters, and have competitive personalities. They enjoy having to perform under pressure and under scrutiny. Or, at the very least, can handle that. Most people do not enjoy competition against competitive people. It's true in all environments I am aware of. Most people want to comfortably do things at their own pace without feeling pushed or stressed. That's not PVP -- in electronic gaming or sports.

What ZOS is doing to PVP is like changing basketball to encourage more people to play it vs just watching. They've lowered the nets and removed the requirement to dribble. It's made the game worse and less popular as a result. No matter how much you change it, it still doesn't change the fact most of that audience isn't looking for the things that come with the PVP experience.

A lot of people I know spend a lot of time wondering why we still play this game. I do. I am mad at myself for not quitting out of principle. I take a lot of long breaks from PVP, but I always come back because at its core, this is an AMAZING PVP game. It's just not finished or properly supported.

ZOS should focus on improving the pure PVP experience. As PVE players generally do not enjoy PVP, PVP players generally do not enjoy PVE grinds. If ZOS removed much of the PVE burden by implementing acquisition paths for all items in PVP environments, ESO PVP would be waaaaaay more popular.

We should be asking ourselves what about the rest of the game PvEers and casuals enjoy, and how we can incorporate those incentives and reward systems into PvP.

In a lot of ways, that's what they are doing by removing counterplay and modifying combat to where numbers are most often the deciding factor. AP drops like candy from a cheap pinata. Making Cyrodiil more casual friendly with more shiny AP hasn't improved the situation.

If ZOS devs were as concerned about bugs as they are someone saying a bad word, then maybe some of the bugs would be fixed by now.
Between the poor server performance in Cyrodiil and infinite load screens, I would find it hard to say anyone at ZOS actually cares.

Once again, when the President of ZOS can't be bothered to log onto his forum account, it shows where the priorities are.

You know, for a brief moment, I honestly got so excited to see a Z besides this thread. I think most of us are trying to keep the conversation civil and constructive. Indeed, I see no use whatsoever in the opposite. I will say, and with sincere respect, it'd be nice if we too were engaged constructively.

I agree that AP are part of the problem. But it's not the "casuals" I see hamster-wheeling the AP farm.

I forget, what were they trying to solve by making d-ticks so much less rewarding than o-ticks? Keep swapping for ez AP? That worked well then.

    This!

It amazes me how quick they are to react to nonsense and do nothing to fix problems that have existed for years! Well don't ZoS! Keep cashing them checks.

This is the only ZOS response you're gonna get fellas. PVP's over in their eyes.
