OP has a very valid response to this situation. I personally leave when people act like that and it has nothing to do with control its just annoying to have a distracting thing running all over the place. For the people to refuse to put away merchants is just dumb you gain nothing by having it out running all over the place

Because the pets pull agro on their own and can completely mess up controlling the battlefield and resource management for tanks.
it's annoying when for example, I am tanking a boss, keeping the agro away from my team faced towards me, a pet comes and the boss does a 180 and heads towards the pet/team

More than that, the Clanfear actually has a taunt. I'm not sure what the parameters are where it can fire, until Morrowind it could taunt Trial bosses. It might not be able to taunt dungeon bosses, I'm honestly not sure.
Only the clanfear has an taunt, its not supposed to could taunt if other than sorc attack the enemy. You would never use an clanfear in an group anyway as it does crap dps and you have an tank.

I have used it in groups, actually. Usually when I'm too lazy to unslot it, and the group is running a full DPS burndown run. Now, I wouldn't inflict it on PUGs, but that's a different consideration.

That said, over the years, the Clanfear's taunt has not been consistent, to the point that I'd be willing to say it taunts whenever it feels like it. And, yes, it will taunt in a group. I've seen that happen enough times.

Fair enough. Here's one example of Merchant being an annoyance:

Running through Volenfell, there are a lot of doors and switches you interact with. The four of us dinked around for like 2 minutes trying to go through a door, but somehow the Tank's merchant became positioned right in front of it, causing none of us to get the interaction prompt for the door. All we could see was the Merchant prompt. I asked several times for the tank to move further away from the door for a sec, but they were either ignoring chat or not understanding. Eventually we got through the door. Same thing happened at one of the Levers in that stage. I also got thrown into the Merchant twice as I was looting mob trash corpses. I asked if they would put it away but they just lol'd at me. By the time I became really annoyed, we were at the HM final boss and I just finished with the group, later adding this Tank to my Ignore List.

That was just one run, in a night where Merchants/Bankers were present in two other later runs. You may not agree that this is annoying, but you cannot refute he FACT that none of this would happen if stowed.

    There.

Atleast for those playing on na server most know English. Atleast I have yet to run across anyone on xbox na who doesn't know English. I imagine it is much different on EU servers.

I am on good terms with all of my guild leaders personally, and if they saw this post they would laugh that you are wasting their time with this.

It's a good thing I don't belong to guilds whose leaders laugh at guild members which have grievances against another guild member stemming from a lack of courtesy, no matter how illegitimate they personally believe the grievance to be.

Your grievance is regarding pets in dungeons first and foremost. Most guildleaders are busy dealing with issues such as:
    1. Generating enough income for trader bids
    2. Organising events
    3. Tracking guild and Officer activity
    4. Managing the guild bank
    5. Overseeing guild officers
    6. Dealing with inactives
    7. Dealing with reports of scamming
    8. Dealing with verbal assaults in Teamspeak or in Guild Chat
Having been a guild leader in a past life, the "This person won't put his pet away" would make me shake my head and sigh. Being a guild leader is a leader, not a mother.

Secondly your grievance, if I understand, is that people aren't obeying your orders. Your unwillingness to compromise is just as much at fault for causing issue here as they are when they decide not to obey you. If I WAS your mother I'd ground all of you and take away your keyboards.

I just now saw this post as I cannot get on ESO Forums on my work computer, and must rely on my cell phone in downtime (easy to scroll past comments). Now that I'm home:

You have vastly misunderstood my grievance and this is the second time you've injected this "disobey" rhetoric trying to keep me painted in an authoritarian light, when I've given examples many times that I never demanded anything. It's a pretty scummy debate tactic to warp a person's words into a different argument, and argue against that. It's also fallacious. You then included unnecessary "your mother" phrase to trivialize my situation, and imply that I'm young (when in actuality, I'm probably quite a bit older than you). I retort back that only children rely on this type of argumentation because they lack the intelligence to win a disagreement solely on the merits of their position and argument. For this reason alone, you're now on my Ignore List, as I don't like consorting with people who rely on mockery, Strawman, and Ad Hominem to convey their points. I weep for any children you rear into this world with your "methods" of conflict resolution.

    1. Never once did I demand anything, as I have said twice now (L2Read). I asked, they did not oblige, I left.
    2. The grievance I would be taking to guild leaders has nothing to do with their use of merchants in a dungeon. You completely missed this in my writing (Again L2Read). The grievance is your reaction and childish bullying that you insist on continuing in this thread. I don't know a single guild leader, who cares about the cohesiveness of his/her members, who wouldn't find this information important. After all, a guild's members are by proxy, an extension of the guild, and a representation of that guild.

So you've run guilds. Have a cookie. I've run many. You're not special.

It should not hold agro if target is hit by other than you.
Yes this could be used in dungeons with no tank runs clanfear hold boss while group kills adds or secondary bosses.
Pets can also take argo even without taunt like players do if tank don't taunts.
One more common issue is that pet end up fighting one lonely add at the side preventing add from running into the aoe.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

I think I would look for new healer as well. Control issues much? Tanks are only true leaders in any PvE content.

I'm a tank, and I completely agree with the OP. It has nothing to do control and everything to do with common courtesy to your fellow groupmates. I think it's very inconsiderate to have assistants out because they add to the visual clutter. It's also incongruous because they casually stroll around mobs completely oblivious to the fact that you and your group are fighting those mobs.

I don't care if you bring out your assistants between encounters. I'll even wait while you use them, but please put them away after use. I won't kick you for it, but I don't fault anyone who does kick especially after they ask their teammates to put them away and the teammates refuse.

TL;DR - Stowing assistants so they don't add to visual noise is a simple courtesy to your fellow groupmates. And it's not an unreasonable request to ask groupmates to put them away considering the assistants are player-sized, not translucent, constantly moving objects.

Personally I think their functionality should be changed.

They should be immobile and disappear after you move a certain distance away and / or after a certain amount of time of not being used.

That would solve this problem plus others. The game would look much less like a giant clone convention, with players understandably not bothering to dismiss them much of the time in their current form. And if they're not permanently out and following players, that might also make customising them more feasible in terms of network requirements for communicating their customisation data.

I also find them slightly annoying in their current form because I need to stand still while others finish using them. I'd prefer to just be able to spawn it, walk away and let others complete their business while I get on with mine.

yeah it taunts bosses, I've had it taunt a few bosses in base dungeons before.
It really messes the flow of the battle up.

this should be a bug then, ZO$ patched pets making them unable to taunt when grouped, not seen any patch that changed that back
The unstable familiar (as well as the pets from the morphs of this ability) will no longer taunt monsters if the monster is engaged with other player characters.

When any of my guilds run dungeons/trials/etc., it is a given at the start that we put away vanity pets, check food, check weapons, etc.
At points during run, we stop. "Who needs a banker?" "Who needs a merchant?". We empty our bags... "Everyone done?" Ok, assistants get put up...We continue on...Simple really...

No, assistants and vanity pets don't affect mobs and bosses, but there is a reason you can't use them in Cyrodiil. They DO cause FPS drain, even if a little, so why not put them away except to be annoying?

No, assistants and vanity pets don't affect mobs and bosses, but there is a reason you can't use them in Cyrodiil. They DO cause FPS drain, even if a little, so why not put them away except to be annoying?
Sometimes I think "Being Nice" and "Common Courtesy" are becoming as rare as Aetheric Ciphers!
    My 2 Drakes...
    Huzzah!

Trials are one thing but a random pug dungeon raid???? Sounds like we got some control freaks who actually only care about themselves and not others. Now if I put an x.p cake in front of the door to troll group that is kinda rude but for you to even tell me how to play my game when it does not effect ANYTHING is rude on your part. On that note this thread is only gonna make things worse meaning ya I'm gonna pull it out just to troll people now because once again don't tell me how to play my game.

Honestly though I don't have merchant out hardly ever but this is making me want to because people are so concerned about everyone else. Give me 1 good reason to change my mind and I won't. Does it bother you when you are doing a quest and you have a npc following you? Does it distract you? Tell me!!!!!!!

Depends on the NPC, there have been a few NPCs I've wanted to kill more then the mobs. There's this one idiot bard who sings "Sway as we kiss" while you're trying to lead him to safety through a goblin/wolf infested area. Wanted to turn around and stick a sword through him quite a few times. >:)
