Animation Cancelling has been an issue that plagued quite a few MMOs, and quite frankly it seems that most companies have not cared enough to resolve this issue, and have instead just left it alone. It is one of the factors that tend to kill PvP, next to macros and such. While macros are not as much of an issue, animation cancelling is a cancer that tends to lead most MMOs down a road in which skill matters less and less.
Unfortunately, ESO is one of those games in which animation cancelling has been rampant since beta, and people have abused it to attain higher ranks, more damage, and disgracefully, the emperor title. As it still seems to be an issue today like many issues that have existed since beta, it seems that ZeniMax does not care to resolve this issue.. whether it be just neglect or something that simply cannot be fixed due to imperfect mechanics.
This here is a link to how animation cancelling is done, though I am not linking this so they could be used, it is to raise awareness of how this issue it being manipulated to lessen the necessity of skill.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BLZzGoPp9Ug
As I was just coming back to play ESO once more due to Morrowind and Homestead, I was immediately turned off from playing again after finding out that these abusive exploits existed, and probably will never come back unless something is done about it. If you enjoy doing such things, do enjoy them.. but I will not be taking part in it.
Can I hijack the thread for a second?
Am I right that you can charge up a melee heavy attack, do a gap closer and get the heavy attack off at the same time the gap closer hits? If so, this would be one case where animation canceling seems to be truly problematic as it does effectively allow two things that would normally share a cooldown to be performed simultaneously.
Otherwise, though, I think animation canceling is a good thing.
100% agreed!
It´s a problem with most Action-MMOs without global cooldowns.
Whats funny is that many players actually think clipping the games animations is a legitimate part of the game. I mean, how deluded do you have to be........
animation cancelling generates lagg. the more you get out of your char, the more you cause calculations, more calculations, more lagg.
this is arguement number 1 or 2 or 3 why animation cancelling should be fixed.
second or third or first > animations get ugly clipping, you are able to make combos where you dont really see whats going on your screen as it looks someone just harmlessly gab closes at you. and you see flash and hand up and bam you dead.
4th reason > it causes MAJOR MASSIVE power ceiling which atm zenimax is unable to handle, they deliver us half assed reasonings why this heavy attack meta was needed.
and my last addition before going to get moarr morning coffee >
animation cancelling causes frustration for anyone and everyone. zenimax had to throw their gloves down regarding fixing it, normal ppl get trashed and bashed at forums and ingame, this same reason generates excuse to exclude people from dungeon runs as they sure as fate arent able to produce enough dps since they dont animation cancel/spell weaving.
and last> the endgame players get frustrated as the game cant improve fast enough to their liking and there isnt enough content coming as zenimax is FORCED to try fix variety of issues beforehand.
we all get affected after all by animation cancelling, QUITE LOT.

Exploit-
In video games, an exploit is the use of a bug or glitches, game system, rates, hit boxes, or speed, etc. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game's designers.
In b4 someone posts the clip of Wrobel saying they like it in their game. No longer an exploit.
L2P - Thing you should do.
It is not a matter of learning to play with it, it is a matter of refusing to use it. If they wish to embrace it, then that is their call, but that will only hurt their game more than cause any amount of benefit.
