Story Behind Your Forum/Gamer Name

i’ll try to keep this intro short (i have a bad habit of liking to read my own words )…man, i love me some me…

few things got me thinking about this topic:

first @Nestor 's story about how he came by his name – fashioned after a noble and wise characters from a fantasy novel…if I remember correctly though – I believe, Nestor, may not have actually been the name of the character of which he was thinking...the whole story behind it, and, the way he told it was pretty cool and fascinating

second – my own forum/gamer name: geonsocal…it’s supposed to be – geo(rge) living in southern california…being somewhat of a reclusive individual, I was trying to keep things low key, so I just mashed everything together all in lower case – now everyone calls me geon…

i remember the frst time i heard someone call me that in group chat - wait, wtf, who the hell is geon???

thirdly – staring incessantly at @GreenSoup2HoT 's name and knowing there must be some really deep meaning behind it…I mean, why in the world are some letters upper case and some letters lower case – there’s something going on there – i just can’t seem to grasp it…

some of you all amaze me with your depth, creativity and imagination when it comes to picking your monikers...

Since I started playing RPGs, I have always gravitated to a more tank / melee type character. The last name is "Bouldercleave" for ALL of my melee characters and "Deadeye" for anything that uses mainly ranged. For stealth characters I typically use "Shadowforged" for a last name.

Named after the painter Caspar David Friedrich. TES games evoke in me an experience very similar to viewing his paintings. You may have seen Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer before. This one also could be straight out of TES, as well as this one. One fact about his work that I think sums up what makes him distinctive: he was one of the very first painters to paint dead trees.

I told this story a little while ago in another thread, forget which one (I post too much!) so will write it up again.

I used to use Turel for a long time because I really loved the character from the Legacy of Kain series, however I was getting more and more annoyed with Turel being taken and not really something which was my own.

I was watching the Angel TV series (Buff spin off) and one of the episodes where they discussed him becoming Angelus, I thought "heh, that's neat when he's evil they just added a us" so I did the same and created Turelus.
It's been taken on a few services (such as Twitter) by others so if it's not available I fall back on ADTurelus as my RL initials are ADT.

I also use the same us addition on other names. My SWTOR Sorcerer was Tonantus, my ESO main is Tarvynus.

Wow, this is going to make for an embarrassing story, but here goes...

Cyn actually comes from 'Cynical_Ice', which was my first e-mail address some 20 years ago.
It gradually changed, and eventually became Cyn, a name by which all but my coworkers know and call me. It holds some truth, but I see myself more as a realist

Oblivion was my first TES game, and on my very first character I decided to read/collect all the books. And fell in love with Khajiiti lore and culture... especially the book "Words of Clanmother Ahnissi", with the names of the gods of their pantheon. Khenarthi just struck me as a lovely name, and I used it with my following characters in Oblivion, Morrowind, and Skyrim. When I got the beta invite for ESO I made sure to grab it as my account name.

I tend to use the name of my RP main at the time I create the account. In WoW I was Frelle (Alliance), then Issaela (Horde, first letter is a capital eye, curse these fonts), so those names got used a lot. In GW2 I'm Donari and pretty darn gabby on the forums with it -- I don't feel any need to hide who I am behind the postings, so that's my ID here as well. I use it on Twitch and Discord to boot, in whatever variation is needed to not conflict with another user.

Frelle ICly had a much longer name (WoW names are limited), which was in part Tenefrelle, so my Redguard DK main is Tan'Afriel

Only the name is similar though, she's nothing like Frelle personality wise.

I didn't know my account name would be my forum name and in game name. This is my pen name/professional name.

Furthermore I don't like how people friend the whole account and not each character. I don't like that the account name is shown in game. I'm used to making friends on my healer, playing in groups and then saying goodnight and logging into my other character to solo stuff. Can't do that in this game so I decline all friend requests. Maybe I should change it but yeah. Max is my name.

Sheds-His-Tail was my first and favorite character in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind which became my all-time favorite video game, the character my first in-game toon to develop an actual identity of sorts. So I've used this name for every Elder Scrolls related forum/community I've ever joined and had a character carrying the name in every Elder Scrolls game I've played.

Elder Scrolls is so compartmentalized in my mind as something wholly wonderful and unique, that it's the only time where I vary from using either my real name (for business) or my primary internet handle, Zovo; those are the two names I'm known by everywhere else.

If anyone wants to find me in-game I'm @Zovo... That is the only overlap those two alias' have ever had.

Tryxus is a name that I came up with during high school by accident. I did like it enough tho to make an OC based on both my grandfathers (hence he's bald xD ) and giving him the name.

Even wrote a very long story once with him as the main char, but it was lost when my laptop crashed. Literally crashed, it fell off my desk

Edit: fun fact: Tryxus apparently is a type of butterfly.
