Story Behind Your Forum/Gamer Name

Mine is just one of a handful of character names I've used down the years. There's at least one on every game I've ever played right from EQ onward. None of them are close to my real name which I use mostly on forums. I can't remember why I didn't here. I guess I was only going to make one character for a change yet this guy wasn't even third. They all have last names too just in case the games ever give the option to add one and depending on setting (all fantasy type).

few things got me thinking about this topic:

i remember the frst time i heard someone call me that in group chat - wait, wtf, who the hell is geon???

thirdly – staring incessantly at @GreenSoup2HoT 's name and knowing there must be some really deep meaning behind it…I mean, why in the world are some letters upper case and some letters lower case – there’s something going on there – i just can’t seem to grasp it…

some of you all amaze me with your depth, creativity and imagination when it comes to picking your monikers...

When I was in middle School a buddy of mine, and I came up with fictional character names in order to use in stories, and video games. His name was Hiro Amenamoto, and I came up with Strider Roshin. My character name is nearly 20 years old lol.

I've also written many short stories about this character. Maybe one day I'll sit down, and write a book.

I have a long ass Ukrainian last name...waz is my nickname I have had since middle school (shortened version of my last name)........56 combo of my High School Jersey numbers for football (45) and basketball (11).....

hmm, well, I chose it when I was quite young. Thought it sounded "cool". I much later found out that Lukos is Greek for "wolf" (or something similar). This was a complete coincidence. Creyden, however, still remains some garbage I made up.

I've used this name for so long that it has really stuck with me. It'd be odd changing it.

My forum and @name are different not sure why but there it is. CSessions is me in real life, my @name is Talrol which was my first character that I created back in 2003 with a 2d MMO named Dransik. I have used that name on at least one character in every game that I have played since.

Balamoor name of my first D&D character, carried over to TES arena and used in every Elder Scrolls game since.

Neoauspex

Auspex is a dead word for prophet. Made the name when I was 13, thought I could solve all the world's religious conflicts. Still use the name because it's never taken... Too many vowels so nobody can pronounce it. Everybody calls me Neo even though the name was made before the Matrix.

Account nickname "logarifmik" comes from the name of the mathematical function "logarithm" combined with diminutive suffix "-ик" from Russian language. Spelling is also distorted in accordance with the Russian grammar.
My main character is a Breton sorcerer named Demian Floquet. First name is "bretonized" version of my real name. Surname was taken in memory of the French mathematician, Gaston Floquet, famous for his works in mathematical analysis and theory of differential equations.

My wife calls me Yummybear, but based on few feedbacks it's not appropriate for whatever the reason. Would anyone care to enlighten me exactly what Yummybear could be interpreted as?

Anyway I call myself Megabear now for that reason

Mine harks back from fond if rather embarrassing memories from when I was around 12 or 13 and roleplaying for the first time on the Neopets forum as a pink fox. Naturally thinking I was fly as f*** as an angsty, cosplaying anime-loving, teen of 16 I decided to use the Japanese word for fox instead for my DeviantArt account..you know all sophisticated like...it just stuck I guess.

My first main was a Khajit Stamblade called Mazaro-dar (heavily influenced by Razum-Dar). People I started playing with just started calling me Maz (even though my @ name is completely different). I made some other non Maz toons and friends still called me Maz. So I decided to just make most of my toons a variation of Maz and it works for me.

I was studying for my first boards exam in med school and saw "Adenoma" and I had literally just learned that they wanted me to change my name from @esoistheworst. I picked the @name because I was pessimistic after my roommate talked me out of skyrim and into playing my first mmorpg.

So a long time ago, I played a text-based MUD called Darkness Falls. I had an orc named Bubbaheal (Orcs were the shaman/healer class of the game) and to keep in touch when the game wasn't online due to server collapses or what have you, most of us that played created AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) accounts to communicate with each other. My original AIM screen name was DFBubba (makes sense), and I carried it with me into the 2000's as the Darkness Falls server closed and its sequel - Darkness Falls: The Crusade was born.

Darkness Falls: The Crusade, DFC for short, was also a text based game with a minimal GUI dashboard that pitted three warring realms against each other. While almost nobody has heard of this game, it was produced by Mythic Entertainment and directly spawned the MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot, and has led to many other online RPGs following the three faction model of competitive PvP/PvE style of play. Anyway, I digressed briefly for that history lesson of online gaming....

So fast forward to early 2000's and the rapid expansion of the interwebz. I started chatting with members of the opposite sex, and many of them began to question my "DFBubba" screen name. At this point I had to choose whether to create a screen name with real-life connections or relate to my bigger audience of DFC players who knew me by my character names. I went with the gamers! The character I was playing primarily at the time was a Halfling Rogue named Feric and he just happened to be level 51. So *presto* my new screen name was born, and has carried with me for the past 15 years or so.

For an extended background on the Feric moniker - I originally saw the name Ferik referring to a fictional assassin in a novel I was reading. That particular spelling was already taken as a character name in DFC, so I went with Feric for my Rogue. The class was a stealth-based toon who utilized a 1-shot "backstab" attack to surprise enemies from the shadows. Even today I miss playing that game, which is why I make note of it in my signature.

Anyway, I kind of went all weepy and romantic there over a text-based pc game, but that's the origin of my forum name, Xbox live GT, and probably a few old email addresses, lol!

When I was trying to create my first email address I did not want an email address that had a bunch of numbers at the end. I hated the idea of being a number. I tried to use my real life name and found there were more than a thousand other people who had tried to use that email address. So I tried to use my last name and then my first name and ran into the same thing. So I tried my first name middle initial and last name, and ran into more numbers. So I tried my first, middle and then last name and saw it and thought that is way too big of a mouthful.

So I flipped open a D&D book that I happen to have which had a buch of racial names at the end of it and decided that Orcs are likely the least used race (for 3.0 at the time) and then looked at the last name on the list of orc names and picked that and then low and behold no numbers!!!! So I've used it ever since.

Wish my story was as cool as some of the others...

Years ago I wanted a unique, but readable name for an email account... One without having to use numbers and symbols, but pretty much all of the dictionary words were all taken.

I went through a big "mech" phase and used to watch a cartoon called Zoids... One of the main machine-characters was called Liger Zero:



Anyway, I wanted to avoid the common spelling of "liger" and substituted in the "y", then tagged on the "eye" because I liked how the Zoid's eye would glow when it powered up.

When I was younger, I used to play Eden Eternal, and I couldn't choose a name and was just thinking of things to call my character, and then I tried SilverIce and that was taken, so it reccomended to add the 58, and here I am; SilverIce58. I use the name for every gaming profile now.

My family (great grandfather) is originally from Ardagh, County Longford, Ireland. Ardaghion sounded good for the forum, my Xbox gamertag ends in "of Ardagh" with all my ESO toons using variations of my first name.

My main's a high elf and I figured Ariotar was a cool elven name. However, my gamer tag has a story behind it.

My GT is JewMonSoon because my IRL name is Jamison and my best friend has always called me by JewMonSoon. Partly because it sounds like my name, and also because I have super curly hair like a Jew. Last year my grandfather did a DNA test and it turns out I even have some Jewish heritage. Hence, JewMonSoon has multiple meanings for me.

Yes @Epona222 , it was an explanation of the name! Which however I choose some time ago, when I was averaging 2h per night. It has been, in variations, the name of the ships I fly in EVE.
