I think ZOS is well aware of the community disapproval of increasing gear levels. Its a huge feat to balance the power creep and im sure ZOS is appreciative that we as a community are saving them the work needed by standing united against gear level increases.
that being said: if it ever happened, it would be because investors forced ZOS to do it.
I think alot of forum goers and general ESO players dont understand how this company works. ZOS is a small studio thats treated like the red headed step child of Zenimax Parent Company. They are the newest and dont have the pedigree of other subsidiaries such as Bethesda who's Todd Howard is an industry legend and id Software who's royalty status doesnt need explaining.
Because that lack of "chops" and because they are new, INVESTORS govern the game development. We saw Matt Firor vehemently defend subscription based business model and then totally back track, its because he was told to promote those things. ZOS employees are under as much of an "NDA" so-to-speak as we are. Opinions get people of position in trouble. Big Brother controls all.

NO NO NO lol this really isn't needed. We don't need to be like every other MMO with power creep. Some people are only just getting to the point of turning gear gold. If we then make 180 gear, that means every piece of armour is now redundant.
All we really need is the ability to dye weapons ONCE your REACH 160
All VMA weapons, except sharp flame staff.
Master bows.
BSW
Viper
Bone pirate
Hulking
Scathing Mage
Rattle cage
Elegant
Sun
Spinners
Spriggans
Litch
Amber plasm: ongoing
Countless monster sets
Not to mention what I have golded out and crafted.
That's a horrendous amount of time to even consider doing it again... the game would be over for me if the raised it.
The gear "progression" would be fake. They would simply change the environment to make 180 equal to what 160 is now, and you'd have to grind just to get back to where you were.
It isn't "new" gear, its the same thing with an artificial increase. The only people who would really want it are those with 6-8 hours to play ESO per day. They'll have a temporary advantage because they will have BiS at cap and want to rule PvP. The funny thing is, a lot of them are the same ones claiming it is all skill, yet they want another advantage.
1. Scaled system makes across the board gear cap raise pointless or worse.
2. might be merit for selective gear cap rise to create some special unique category of items but in practice that would lead to gradual creep addition until you wound up with it becoming an across the board.

"The good way I used to get good kills *with good skill* was good but the way others kill me now is bad."
No. What's the point? Some will say to get stronger, ok, if ZOS intends to make us stronger then there are other ways in making us stronger, giving better armor passives, increasing gear values to scale to CP180 without moving the cap to 180.
People have spent countless of hours to farm sets that they need, and people like me are already annoyed by ZOS indecision and rebalancing of the game in a different direction each patch. One patch X setup is viable and the next patch its completely useless. With this change all end content players setups will be rendered useless.
I have a tank with multiple endgame setups plus typical vet dungeon setups. A healer with endgame trial setups and a vet dungeon setup (grothdar/spc/kags). And I have the 6 dps in bis endgame dps for stamina and magicka(VO/IA)...plus I main a stam NB in pvp with masters bow infused+Vma sharpened...Are you kidding me? Im taking a major L if they increase cap..ugh.
There should be a big update like Morrowind with addition to some group dungeons. Gear cap raised. Completely new gear, new resources etc. There be an option to upgrade gear younhave now to gear cap but will be a bit weaker than the new sets. Add something different to the game, incentive to play a more, get the economy booming again. Character progression is part of a MMO. Increase gear cap every 1-2 years should not be that big of an issue. Adds more difficulty to the game.
Part of me says yes another part of me says no. Mostly I don't care either way. Namely because I have not gotten the best gear for any of my characters yet so either way I have to farm up stuff, and if they leave it at 160 then I will still have to farm just as much.
I guess with that in mind I might as well say yes because it will get me better gear.
previously I've said no to this but i think if it happened and everything went to 180 cp it'd give me something to do again worthwhile because at the moment i'm just logging on doing the writs and occasionally jumping into pvp and then logging straight off.
Not unless they seriously rework their drop system (looking at you weapons & shields / VMA / DSA, among a few others).

Absolutely not. And I think zos knows just how many players are on their last string with the grinding in this game and would snap if the gear cap were raised and all of their hard earned stuff became useless.
Progression should continue via new skill lines or areas that offer new/different gear, not through a Carrot on a stick gear chase
I voted yes, I think MMOs only become better if you continue to progress. Weapons/armor should include this. The fact that stamina still forces people to use vMA weapons is laughable. The DLC is close to 18 months old. Can we not come up with something new for stamina DPS users? How long was TBS meta for magic users before the change to BSW?
I have no problem with level cap increase but it needs to be included with better equipment. It shouldn't be a level increase to force people to recraft or regrind their same gear. Part of a new expansion (chapter whatever) should be new gear.
I am sorry if that means your previous gear is no longer BiS. The game should evolve with both players and creators.
