Strange issue involving friends?

I have had this problem for the past few hours and it's really irritating. I cannot add any people, nor can they add me. Both sides say that the "account isn't found". Does anyone have a solution? At first I noticed this when a random guy sent a COD mail to me, I tried messaging and adding him but his account was not found. I had a friend message him and he told me MY account wasn't found. That's when I tried adding everyone in zone chat, but it doesn't work. I hope it's not a suspension of sorts? I hardly ever do anything that would warrant punishment

Do you have any accented letter in your character's name ? like é, ö, à, ç... ?

No, it's BaconCheeseBurglar.

It doesn't have anything to do with the name I think, since I can't add anyone by right clicking their name on chat box, they cannot either

Try disabling all addons. Some addon authors have included April Fool's stuff, and while this is a nice intention, it breaks up a lot of things.

Or you have a social ban by accident. I'm not familiar with the specific consequences of a social ban since I've never had one though.

You and them could be in offline mode. Check your friends list or guild roster and find your name at the top left. If the person icon is grey it means you are in offline mode. There is a drop-down arrow where you can change your status.

In offline mode you can send PMs but people cannot PM you. So if you are both in offline mode neither of you would be able to communicate.

Add @ symbol.

If your chat box is displaying @names, clicking on their name and then "add friend" will add their @name but drop the @ symbol because... ZOS.
